  • Laid-back Rural Getaway

"Here's why I will remember our stay at Nikki's house with such fondness. -big, spacious comfortable rooms. 4 adults could work in the kitchen together. We all could do floor exercises in the livingroom together. The bedrooms were large enough to retreat to for quiet time and the beds were great. -the wonderful deck, with it's view over papaya, avocado, hibiscus, macadamia, etc. and a big BBQ to grill our dinners. -the veggie garden and chickens -the friendly cats who greeted us each day but respectfully declined indoor visits. -the outdoor shower******* -in the background, Nikki's cheerful, unassuming, helpful and friendly presence This is not a 4 star hotel. It's a clean, funky, well-used and loved home with a great vibe. It is not convenient to malls, restaurants, resorts(those are an hour away). There are noisy frogs croaking all night long. But those are everywhere. The location gives easy access to south Kona and south island points of interest, but with it's easy to go up the Kona coast and do a Costco run too. Would I go back? In a heartbeat!!!!!!!!"

  • Great spot, Fantastic Host!

"My wife and I stayed here for four days as part of our honeymoon to the Big Island. LOCATION: Near Captain Cook and important amenities very close by like grocery store, gas, kayak rentals, breakfast, other nice food spots, coffee farms, beach, amazing snorkeling. Conveniences nearby but you feel like you are away from the heavily touristed Kailua-Kona, which is a 20-25 minute drive away. SETTING: Five acre property with a few buildings on it, within a secure gated entrance. The huge and gorgeous main house is a separate building from this rental property, which is a smaller, not super fancy but in a very quaint, comfortable and peaceful setting. This rental is private from the other buildings on the property. Stunning view from the lanai. Waking up to birds, roosters and sipping coffee on lanai while watching sunrise. Weather was always comfortable and we spent both mornings and evenings in shorts and t-shirt typically. Mango, papaya, citrus, bananas, MAC nut tree behind house (an abundance of nuts you can crack and eat), avocado, pineapple...all available for picking. AMENITIES: the usual stuff plus snorkeling gear, propane mini BBQ with a nice grill, washer/dryer, chairs, beach umbrella, fully stocked kitchen appliances. However, no high quality coffee making supplies, so if you're a coffee connoisseur you may want to bring your own stuff (for instance: only a blade grinder and Mr Coffee drip is available). We like burr grinder and French press... MANAGER: Candi is a darling of a person and shares the Aloha generously. Available and affable but not overbearing. Lives nearby. Went the extra mile for us on a couple occasions. Also has 100% Kona coffee for sale which was grown on the estate. I would recommend this rental to a friend."

  • Excellent for Divers and Snorkelers!

"My partner and I stayed here for 5 nights as part of a 3-1/2 week xmas vacation. Cottage is clean and comfortable with all the kitchen basics. There is a charcoal BBQ outside which we didn’t get a chance to use. Also have a convenient outside area for rinsing and hanging dive equipment. Appreciated the seclusion and quiet - very good choice if you aren’t into the touristy scene. Hosts Garry and Susan are lovely! Enjoyed 3 dives at Honaunau Bay with Garry who was kind enough to lend me some gear as well as the advertised weights and air. Garry is a cautious and conservative diver so, as an infrequent diver, I felt very safe with him as guide. Saw tons of fish, a few turtles, heard the whales calling and was introduced to the local reef shark. This place is a terrific deal especially for scuba divers - would love to stay again. The hosts made it cosy and welcoming. Chatting with them and diving with Gary was a spectacular added bonus to the stay."

  • Hillside Paradise

"Our family of nine, two generations, had a wonderful experience for our first visit to Hawaii; this home was the icing on the cake! We spent time exploring/snorkeling/shopping during many of the ten days. But the quiet time just walking the five acres of orchards, eating meals outside with the glorious sunsets and swimming in the wonderful pool was probably the best part. We could have just stayed there at the beautiful home and not done the sightseeing things - it was a sweet private resort all its own! We enjoyed the delicious avocados and other fruit we could pick daily. The house is set up so that the two grandkids roomed with their parents in the upper Master and had their privacy for naps, etc. The other rooms were perfect for the older kids; the extra Master BR/Bath was nice for my wife and I. We hope to book Pu'u Mahana annually for our family and will be recommending it to all of our friends as well."
