  • Perfect Accomadations for our Big Family

"We loved our stay here. It was a great spot for snorkeling and a nice location on the island to strike out on many adventures. The house was beautifully decorated and very Comfortable. It had everything we needed"

  • Amazing Home Away from Home on the Big Island

"Exactly what we needed! We loved the Koa Cabin. It is a great, cozy, comfortable space to come home to after a busy day of exploring and a fun place to hang out. Fully equipped and clean. Our hosts were gracious and offered all kinds of information about things to do locally and on the Island. Great kitchen, comfortable living space and super sleeping loft - loved lying in bed and looking at the tops of the avocado trees out the window. Also loved the sounds of the jungle - birds and frogs. Super location and easy to get to. Skip the hotel or resort and have a great experience coming home to the Koa Cabin!"

  • Ah, wilderness

"An immaculate and comprehensively equipped small house that sleeps three in cool privacy. Amazing views, Dolphins swimming by and a lovely sound from the breaking waves on the pebble beach. Very private and quiet, as we hoped it would be. Yes, there are ants and mosquitoes. Not many of either, and simple to bar from the house. As we are from eastern Ontario, we wondered why anyone would find them intolerable. This house is in the real world, not a sterile resort environment, and offers birds, butterflies, adorable little geckos and lovely restful times. Since it is January, there are rollers coming onto the beach. Competent swimmers go past them; unfit old ladies such as I find them a challenge. But there are plenty of quiet beaches within reach and this one is private and outstandingly beautiful. I am enjoying the Dolphins swimming by. The road down is also a challenge, very steep. You need one confident driver. The location lends itself to expeditions to the famous sites. The Volcano park is fairly close on a good road with lovely scenery and a great bakery on the way. Some of the historic sites are even closer, with a great coffee house (with bakery) en route. Air temperature is perfect, there are lovely breezes and I would recommend this place to anyone (noting the caveats mentioned above)."

  • Romantic setting

"We spent seven nights at the Makalani Oceanview, and it was the best getaway we could possibly ask for. When we first pulled into the driveway, it was breathtaking. You're instantly transported into a rainforest/garden, leading you up to the cottage and an amazing view of the ocean. The photos don't do the cottage justice, it is the ultimate place to unwind and reconnect. Harry is a gracious host, giving out as much information as you could want, and yet unobtrusive. The remoteness of the location is ideal if you are truly wanting to get away. No crowds, no noise, no hassles, yet only about 30 minutes from Kona. We look forward to staying here again. Thank you Harry!"
