  • Zen in Paradise

"If you are looking for a serene well-appointed home with a million dollar view, then this is the place for you. We enjoyed sitting on the infinity lanai waking up with our morning coffee listening to the waves crash while savoring our beautiful surroundings before heading out for a day of exploring the many treasures this island holds. It was an oasis upon our return where we again returned to the lanai with a cold drink to wind down and reflect under a canopy of stars. The home is inviting and comfortable. The master bedroom has an expansive ocean view and access to the outdoor shower. The shower is a treat after a long day of hiking or first thing in the morning as it has both hot and cold water and a beautiful view. The kitchen has all you will need including a coffee grinder for those Kona coffee beans you can purchase all over the island. The grocery store is just a click away and if you do not feel like cooking, Keoki's Roadside Cafe had some amazing ono. Very restorative vacation. Dennis is wonderful to work with and is a great resource. His excellent communication and attention to details as evidenced through the welcome folder and guidebooks were greatly appreciated. With so many choices, we are thankful that we chose "Breath of the Sea." As another reviewer lamented, "we felt like millionaires" it was hard to leave and we look forward to returning."

  • Friendly Host and Great Location for Area Snorkeling

"Todd's friendly and easy-going nature is contagious! A tour of his coffee farm and conversation with this Pennsylvanian-native-turned-Hawaiian is a must! As guests in his rental apartment you will enjoy samples of the coffee, nuts, and fruits harvested from his farm. And, any visitor to this area must go snorkeling at Two-Step and visit Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, the Place of Refuge. The apartment offers basic, not luxurious furnishings and decorations, but guests will find everything is clean and the kitchen has all you need to prepare meals. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the lanai during our stay. We also helped ourselves to the beach chairs for our outing to Two-Step and I supplemented my mask and snorkel with fins Todd has available for guests to borrow. The property is a working farm which means you will see a variety of tools, sheds, and projects associated with the farm from your view on the lanai. If you are looking for perfect manicured gardens, this working farm may not be the place for you. This farm and our conversation with Todd gave us the opportunity to learn how one family transitioned to the Big Island from the mainland. This apartment is also within driving distance to a fabulous local restaurant called The Strawberry Patch. We enjoyed celebrating my mother's 70th birthday and mother's day with an excellent dinner at this local eatery which Todd recommended. Thank you for helping to make our trip to the Big Island memorable."

  • Perfect paradise vacation

"This was our first trip to the Big Island and did not know what part of the Island to stay on. After many months of searching for the perfect location we chose this rental after comparing it to all the other rentals. The price was right and we wanted to be away from the tourist areas. We were not disappointed at all. This place was fantastic. It is everything that was mentioned only more we were not disappointed at all. The studio apartment was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied with lots of supplies for cooking but If you don't feel like cooking there are some good restaurants close by within 10 min. drive. The owner was great to work with and was willing to give information about the area. We received lots of info about the area and things to do before we even arrived so that we would have an idea of what to do. Our cleaning deposit was returned to us with in 4 days of returning home. We enjoyed coming back to this apartment after a full day of exploring this wonderful island. It is a bright and cheerful place and if I hadn't wanted to see the island I would have been content just sitting on the lanai enjoy the view of the ocean and the sunsets while eating the papaya that is grown on the property. We hope to be able to return to the Big Island and would definitely stay here."

  • A wonderful vacation in Hawaii

"We just finished a one month stay at the Kona Rain Forest Coffee Farm guest house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Robert and Dawn operate a working Organic Coffee Farm while at the same time act as friendly and obliging hosts to those who stay at the guest house on the farm. The beautiful guest house sits high on the farm property and has a great view of the ocean in the distance and the ever changing Kona sunsets. It is even more open and spacious than the pictures show. The covered Lanai allows you to sit in the morning sun with your cup of fabulous Rain Forest Kona coffee. Dawn showed us how to properly brew a French Press of their coffee and it tasted far better than any of our previous attempts at drip perking that we were used to. They supply beach mats and chairs for your trips to any of the many beaches that are on the Kona side of the Island. You can pack your own lunch and iced water and carry it all to the beach in the cooler supplied. Robert gave us a tour of the farm and explained the intricacies of the operation including the roasting process. The tour was fascinating and we were also able to see the pickers in operation as they selected the “cherries” from the trees surrounding the guest house. We also had friendly daily visitors to our lanai as Jackson and Launa, the resident Jack Russell Terriers came around to sit and have a rest and see if we had any doggie treats that day. Be sure to visit the volcano Kilauea, it’s well worth the trip to the Park where it’s located and the friendly Park Guides will show you where the interesting sites are located. On your drive to the volcano be sure to stop at Punaluu Bakery on highway 11, I’ll bet you will find it impossible to leave there without purchasing some of their tasty treats! Be sure also to visit Up Country Bakery in the Captain Cook area and try some of their great bagels or have a brunch or lunch from the extensive menu, it’s funky hippie feeling place with very friendly staff. Hawaii is a beautiful Island to visit and we would be happy to visit there again, especially if we could stay at the Kona Rain Forest Guest House and once more enjoy a relaxing visit."
