Kick Back by K Bay
"The Hale Lana studio provided everything we could want: a peaceful and very comfortable space, indoor/outdoor living, ample cooking equipment, extra towels, washer, clothesline, beach chairs, boogie board, directions to local sites, and a fabulous outdoor shower! Easy walks to nearby beaches. The snorkeling at Captain Cook Monument and Two Step is spectacular. Look at the spinner dolphins in the bay, but please don't touch."

"Our sojourn at the Pu'uhonua House was amazing. Between the great view of the ocean, the incredible woodwork, the super-friendly hosts, and the lush yard, I'm trying to think of a way the experience could have been better, and I can't. Our party of six came to the Big Island for a family reunion, and all of us were blown away by this vacation home. After family activities out on the island, we would relax on the deck and ooh-and-aah about the many birds, the ocean, the yard full of fruit and coffee bushes, the geckos, the details of the unique house, and the total Kona-side ambiance. It was like living in a beautiful treehouse, totally unlike any ordinary house, combining pole-house and post-&-beam with a lot of lanais and beautiful wood-framed sliding glass and screen doors. The house is situated at the perfect altitude, up off the hot beach areas but below the cloud line. The hosts, Bruce and Nikki, were very nice and they had put a lot of work in to the house to keep it in great shape. Bruce was also very forthcoming about the history of the house and the techniques used to build it (a fascinating story). When we return to the Kona-side we will make every effort to book our stay at the Pu'uhonua House."

"We were headed to the Big Island for a conference at Waikoloa Village, but we wanted a few days away from it all. Mike and Vika's place was the perfect ticket. It was an easy drive down into the woods and close enough to the grocery store and restaurants so we didn't feel too isolated. Sitting in the outside kitchen lanai in the mornings drinking chai tea was just what I needed to start the summer! The views are amazing and you truly feel alone out there on the side of a mountain, even though you are only 10 minutes drive from Captain Cook town. There was a beautiful wild turkey, I named him "Tom", who greeted us when we arrived and came by on the last day to say goodbye. The amenities covered all our needs. The only downside was that the cell access is very limited on the property and wi-fi only at the main house, this bothered my teenage daughters, but it didn't really bother me as I wanted to get away from it all while still having the ability to use electricity and have running water. You can always go up to the town to get access when you need it. You will see some bugs and lots of beautiful green geekos, but since I live on Oahu, they didn't really bother me. It was fun to just sit in the rocking chair and watch the geekos scurry back and forth along the roof. It rained a lot when we were there, but it didn't bother us much because the property has nice tin roofs that keep you dry. It was a lovely visit."

Warm, Friendly home away from home to experience the Big Island
"The house is wonderfully charming and close to great beaches for our 'keiki' (kids) aged 2 and 4. Its our second time back in two years and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. Very affordable in contrast to other places we looked into, and perfectly located to get a real feel for the island. Away, but not too far away from the hustle and bustle of Kailua-Kona, its the perfect location if you have a rental car. We had three generations under one roof and didn't step on each other's toes. Master bedroom is beautiful and the other two upper bedrooms are pleasantly spacious. Downstairs bedroom has loads of space, and was convenient for us since it also had the washer and dryer in it...
Its got all the amenities you would expect and a little bit of cottage charm. Highly recommended!"
