  • Relaxing Getaway

"When we arrived "home", we had a wonderful basket of goodies and the basics to get us through the night. Candi and Michael provided us with all of the information we needed and helped to make our vacation perfect. Great caretakers. It was the quiet getaway with a wonderful view. We look forward to going back."

  • Family Gathering

"We spent a fabulous week at this lovely house in February, 2014. It was a perfect location and accommodations for 4 generations. There were ten of us, ages 4 to 84. Many things about the visit are memorable, but especially we found that the house offers a big group lots of spaces to be together, and also places to be alone. Large bedrooms and bathrooms distributed conveniently and each with some privacy. There were places to make puzzles together, play cards, eat shared meals, watch the Winter Olympics on big screens (several), and then outdoors to go swimming (luxurious pool!), and explore the surroundings amongst the avocado trees. The kitchen is spacious and modern so several people can work together on different things and come up with a wonderful spread. An issue arose with the water supply, but vastly more important, we found that all it took was a quick phone call, and the owner leapt into action, and things were fixed. She has a well-established support crew that knows what to do when stuff happens. This vacation house is conveniently located near some of the best ocean beaches on the Big Island, in the Captain Cook/City of Refuge area, and the owner’s detailed descriptions in the written information are very helpful. The house has enough altitude above the ocean that the view of the sky and sea is spectacular, and yet the temperatures/humidity are moderate 24/7. When you visit this place, be sure to take the time to walk down to the main road and back at least once. Round trip it is about an hour’s walk, and if you take time to smell the flowers, and to take pictures of the plants, flowers, fruits, berries and animals along the way, you won’t soon forget it."

  • Spectacular in Everyway!

"Ridiculously beautiful view from a giant, airy suite overlooking the ocean and coffee orchard. The pictures do not do this fantastic studio apartment justice - it's stunning, yet simple and elegant. Carol is a gracious, generous and thoughtful hostess, providing everything a traveler needs, from travel/ Hawaii history/plant/animal books to soaps to linens to beach/adventure gear to her delish organic coffee to filtered water, grill, super comfy bed and more! The suite is gorgeous, light-filled with skylights and tastefully furnished with little nooks for eating, reading and relaxing. Definitely the most beautiful and most quiet place we stayed in on our 3 week island adventure. A suite like this in a hotel or resort would easily be in the several hundred dollar range. Fast wifi, cable, gorgeous bathroom with amazing shower; every wall is a window so you can see the ocean, sunrise, sunset, horses, wild turkeys, avocado and coffee trees and the rest of paradise. Or you can draw the shades and sleep-in. Conveniently located up the mountain from Captain Cook, which has a grocery. A perfect getaway/adventure-base/vacation hideaway. I would never leave if I lived here...."

  • An amazing experience!

"For what we were looking for, the Kona Cabin was perfect in every way. We booked this trip earlier this year and every time work got crazy, I looked at the link here on VRBO dreaming of the 12 days when we could be there. Well, the actual experience was even better than what we had envisioned. It was a morphing of all the things we love--healthy food, wildlife, dogs, cats, art and the ocean. The Kona Cabin was comfortable and we saved a ton of money, because Jeffrey and Heide provided all of the snorkeling gear and beach chairs and their kitchen was stocked with spices, utensils, coffee maker, blender, etc. They have a nice selection of DVDs and music CDs and WiFi, which was nice. It’s a semi-rustic experience and if you’re into the luxury of a hotel where they clean your room every day, this may not be a great match for you. But, if you’re looking for a great Island experience that makes you feel like you’re in the jungle, this is it! Huge avocadoes, a plethora of exotic fruits, macadamia nuts you can pick right outside your door and crack them in the kitchen; our hosts’ 3 dogs, their chickens, sheep and assorted wildlife. And if you’re a decent table tennis player, please stay with them, because we provided little competition for Jeffrey, although he’s a great teacher. Heidi is an exceptional artist and they both have incredible souls. Meeting them made the whole thing complete!"
