  • Best month of my life!

"My experience in this condo was absolutely amazing. being away from home for a month normally would be very difficult, but it felt just like home. Jan was a pleasure to work with and we were treated like family. The condo amenities made our stay such a pleasure, it was clean and organized and included countless items that saved our family thousands of dollars. The condo had all of the kitchen, laundry, bathroom, hiking and beach items you would ever need. The condo had an HD-DVR and the beds and furniture were comfortable and it was decorated beautifully. There are beautiful views from the condo and its only a short walk to the beach and all the shopping and restaurants in Historic Kailua-Kona. The pool and hot tub were very nice, much needed and never crowded. I don't think there is a hotel in Kona this nice and for the money probably not another condo!"

  • LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION

"Location, location, location is probably what summarize Hale Honu best! This was our first experience on this Island and from what we were able to see, Hale Honu was probably one of the best location available on the Big Island. It offered proximity to downtown (3 1/2 miles) where most of the shops are located and only a short distance away from major grocery store and shopping center. There was 5 of us in our party and we had rented the whole house. The fenced property allow for all the privacy and the noise from Alii Drive was never an issue. Since we had both floor of the house, we had more than enough space and the property offered all the amenities one can ask for. The sound of the surf crashing on the lava at the front of the property and the view was all the entertainment we needed and it was so relaxing that we never even use the television. The view from the upper lanai was just spectacular with whales, dolphins and turtles being center stage every day. We spent hours every morning and every evenings just looking out for them and we were never disappointed. We saw hundreds of whales and dolphins that provided us with front row seat to unbelievable shows; from just swimming along the coast, to breaching, tale slapping, jumping and spinning. Wow, it was like watching Discovery Channel live.... Unfortunately, the surf was very high during our stay which limited the amount of snorkeling we were able to do but this was the call of mother nature and it had nothing to do with Hale Honu. I don't know yet when we will be returning to the Big Island but Hale Honu will certainly be at the top of our list as a place to stay. Don A."

  • Back to Kona after 25 years

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed at Kona Reef many times in the 80's. Returning after this long, we were surprised to find it much the same (in a good way). Being 25 years older, we tended to notice the fact that the elevators stop BETWEEN the floors, which was really only an issue on the first and last days (luggage) and following our first Costco run. A silly design quirk, but not really a big problem (yet). Unit D33 had obviously been redecorated and was nicely equipped, including a lot of useful beach equipment in the deck box. The glassware was kind of "eclectic" so we bought four matching cocktail glasses and four matching wine glasses, which we cheerfully donated for future guests. Our only real issue was the cost which, once we started researching accommodations for our next visit, we found to be definitely at the high end. Obviously, we expected to pay a premium for a great oceanfront setting, but when you stay for 6 weeks, that "daily rate" adds up. We've opted to reserve elsewhere next time just because of the expense, not because there was anything wrong with Kona Reef or our unit. We decided to give up the oceanfront to get a much larger unit at half the cost. We must mention the OUTSTANDING service we got from Kona Coast Vacations. We had two "equipment malfunctions," an internet modem that quit working and a DVD player that had obviously seen better days and wouldn't play anything. In both cases, Kona Coast sent someone out immediately, both times on weekends. It took a couple of days to get a new modem from the cable company, but they brought out a brand-new Blue-Ray player within hours of our call. THAT is great customer service! For those staying 2 weeks or less, or those with unlimited funds, Kona Reef is a great choice. If you are staying longer, you might want to consider looking for units on the mauka side of Alii Drive that rent by the month."

  • Absolutely perfect condo in Kona!

"This condo in Kona Pacific was absolutely perfect. It is quiet and overlooks green space and a little view of the water. The unit is very large and spacious with large lanai (balcony) even with a table setting to dine outside and comfy outdoor chairs. The condo is very comfortable with 2 queen beds in the very large bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a full washing machine and dryer in the apartment. It has its own car parking space but is walking distance to EVERYTHING in Kona. The condo is just as you see it on the net....this block is older but well maintained. The owner Joel is a pleasure to deal with, and any questions you have he is so quick to reply to emails. His customer service is exemplary. We had an issue with arrival time and his help and flexibility with this was terrific. You can walk to all the restaurants and entertainment in Kona.....no need for a car if you just stay in Kona but if you want to explore further afield (and there's so much to see and do on the BIG Island) you will need a car. We loved having some of the basics in the kitchen like oil, gladwrap, salt and pepper and basically a cupboard of other travellers' leftovers....fabulous! There are beach towels, snorkel and beach things...even sun tan lotion was there....maybe leftover from someone else but that's fine. We would highly recommend everything about this condo and feel confident you would not be disappointed. Just be mindful you are not staying in the Sheraton with flash foyers and 5 star sterile clinical perfection. The personal touches, the size and comfort of this condo along with a great owner far outweigh any tiny room in a 5 star hotel. AND the biggest bonus it is such good value. Congratulations Joel you are doing everything right....just keep doing what you are doing!!! We loved it so much and if we return to Kona we would stay NOWHERE else. PS We did have a small issue with a running toilet and emailed Joel and he was on to it IMMEDIATELY with a courteous tradie who liaised with us and Joel and it was fixed almost straight away."
