"The grounds were beautiful and maintained daily. Very accurate photo on the web site. Everything about the grounds and the property seemed accurate. It is a great location if you have a car. The description to get to the condo once you are on the property, at night was a little difficult. The master bedroom curtains are not light blocking and you do start waking up with the dawn. The downstairs ac did not always keep the loft cool enough and upstairs ac unit didn't work and the window uptairs was stuck in the open position. The kitchen sink leaked water onto the floor when you washed dishes. The property managers seem willing to fix problems but I heard the sink was leaking before we got there. I loved the Acai Bowl restaurant right down the street for breakfast. The evening dinner historic cruise was great on the Body Glove. The Luau, Lava Legends was ok but I didn't like the food. I'd try another one. Driving up country was really fun going to cute shops, macadamia nut farm, coffee farms, south point and the volcanoe. Seeing the lava at night was a great idea. Hapuna Beach was wonderful and so was Kua Bay."

  • Great Location for fun in the sun!

"Rating Details: I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was very happy with the location. The vacation rental was spotless. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Enjoyed our stay. The condo was will stocked for the kitchen and pool. Beach towels were available. Everything was in working order. Only concern no air conditioning, when we were there in September it was unseasonable HOT no trade winds to cool things down. There was a fan in the living area and bedroom which provided some relief. The pool was a life saver for cooling down. Had a great time enjoyed the unit would diffidently stay here again."

  • A good base for a busy vacation

"We stayed at Kona Calm in February to escape the cold of the Canadian Prairies. We were delighted with our experience and would whole-heartedly recommend it to others. Kona Calm is the perfect base for an active vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. If your group enjoys exploring and outings, and needs a comfortable and spacious home to which to return, this should be your choice. Located in a quiet neighborhood it is just a very short drive away from the Kona beaches, restaurants, supermarkets and airport. Indeed, being just a few blocks away from the main highway makes getting on the road to more distant destinations just that little bit easier. With three teenagers we wanted a property with a little space; Kona Calm gave us the luxury of four separate bedrooms. However, 10 people could be accommodated comfortably in beds, 4 on the upper floor (master bedroom, and 2 twins) and 6 on the lower floor (2 queens in one room, 1 queen in the other). With a communal area on each of the floors, this might work well for two families staying together allowing each some extra privacy. The kitchen on the upper level is well-appointed, and the wireless internet worked seamlessly, even during intensive use by our teenagers. There is a small, very basic patio at the back of the house, with table and chairs available stored in the garage. Families with young children should note that there is a drop-off with no barrier at the edge of the patio which would pose a hazard. Due to the slope of the land towards the ocean, the patio (and the bedroom windows at the back of the house) give beautiful views of the ocean. We watched the sunset, a cruise ship anchored in the harbor, and a whale frolicking just off shore. We were woken by birdcalls in the morning and spotted numerous birds including a flock of feral parrots. Our daughter loved the geckos, both green and pale pink versions, who come out to hunt insects at night. The owners provide their own recommendation of places to go and we tried several of them, all excellent. We did lots of snorkeling, and every time spotted and even swam with sea turtles. As our first visit to the Island, and with only a week to spend, we feel we have only just started to discover this beautiful place and we hope to be back before long. Meanwhile, we agree that we have found both our new favorite hawaiian island and our new favorite place to stay."

  • Lovely, Quite, Comfortable - Perfect for large groups

"Our group of 8 adults and 1 toddler could not have been happier at this house. with 2 living rooms upstairs, 4 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, a well appointed kitchen (that could use a new set of knives if I'm being really picky!) and an entire separate apartment downstairs, we could have housed even more people for our trip. The loft room upstairs had a closet large enough to put the crib in it that we rented for the toddler so she had her own space too. Other reviews talked about the lack of AC, well Zac and his wife have fixed that. Each bedroom has AC as well as ceiling fans keeping you nice and cool while sleeping. The main parts of the house just have ceiling fans, and we happened to be there pre-hurricane when it was incredibly hot, so the main parts of the house were pretty sweltering, so we just jumped in the nice big pool to cool off. The place is in a great location. Just a few miles south of town and close to one of the best snorkeling beaches around. You can rent equipment right on the beach. And its a pretty short drive down to Captain Cook and Two Step as well. If this is your first time staying in a house instead of a hotel there are things to remember: bring your own toiletries! shampoo is not provided. Also, bring laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. Or at least be prepared to go to Target for it if the previous tenants didn't leave any behind. There are many TVs at the house so if you have trouble deciding what to watch you can split up, but even though there was a remote for a DVD player at the house, the player itself was nowhere to be found. Not a big deal. Also, at night the cockroaches come out... but only outside. It's tropical, so if you are scared of bugs this might not be the place for you... I mean Hawaii, not the house. The interior of the house was spotless and bug free. Overall, our whole group loved this place. We will definitely be back and looking to stay with Zac again."
