"this place is the best! Everything we could need to have a great vacation was there in this clean, interesting and comfortable apartment. The location is perfect for exploring the island and with close access to grocery stores, restaurants, beaches (with turtles!) etc, it was perfect to come home to at the end of the day. We mostly ate dinner outside on the extensive verandah enjoying the quiet and privacy. Our hosts who live on the main floor were great and very helpful and we enjoyed their interesting collection of folk art. They have gone out of their way to make the place feel like a real home with lots of separate places to sit and read or muse on the variety of trees and plants surrounding the property. All four members of our family highly recommend this property and intend to go back."

  • Family gathering

"We were a family of 12, ages 5-67. This was a wonderful base to start out each day and end each night. We were very happy with the rooms, the location, the views, and of course the owner who was very helpful. There is enough space so if you wanted you could spread out and enjoy some quiet time, but you could also all hang out together..especially on the wonderful lanai. Everything in Kona is close, 20 min to Costco, Safeway, Walmart and of course some nice snorkelling spots. The following isn't complaints, just things you should be aware of; the pools are not heated, but the kiddie pool was warmer so thats where the kids spent most of their time. This may be different in the summer time. The roosters referred to in other reviews are noisy and they start in the middle of the night marking their territory by crowing. Bring ear plugs or just wait a couple nights and you will get used to it,mostly. There are ample kitchen supplies and condiments and the owner has extras that get left behind, like our sriracha sauce. I'd also recommend Google street view the drive from the airport as it is fun and twisty, respect the speed limits. It cools down nicely at night so no a/c is not a problem. We had a wonderful vacation in part because of this wonderful property and owner, and her cute "little" dog. Aloha and mahalo."

  • What A Stay!

"We had a group of ten ranging from age 4 to 74. The second we opened the door we began to smile, what a lay out, view and close proximity to Kona. We had an issue with the hot tub on arrival and it was addressed immediately and the pool guy was there in less than an hour and fixed. What service! As others have mentioned when you needed to get away from others it was simple due to the layout of the house. The pool and hot tub were enjoyed by all and it was so wonderful to come back to our home after all of our adventures. We will be back, that's for sure! The manager was a pleasure to deal with. I'm almost in tears writing this as we have now returned home and the fun we had was immeasurable and the best vacation of our lives. We have been to all the other Hawaiian Islands and the Big Island is our favorite!"

  • Go for the View, Not the Unit

"If you are looking for an affordable, laid back experience with truly breathtaking views, this is your place. If you want a luxurious and spotless vacation home, it isn't. The unit is tired inside and, with only one window unit air conditioner in the living room, the back bedroom gets VERY hot. The furnishings are okay, and the tiled floor allowed things to be cleaned well. But, the appliances are quite worn, and the fittings throughout are showing their age. However, the outside lanai enjoys one of the best views in this 12-unit complex. And, the 55+ clientele in the few other units largely keep to themselves. The pool deck is the best part, and affords peaceful sunning, soaking, and gazing. No need to take a whale watching trip in the early spring here. Just look out on the water and you'll soon see the splashing and breeching. Unless you are a good walker, or want to spring for a taxi, you'll want a rental car. The Ali'i Marketplace across the street is very handy for well-priced gifts and some food including TJs BBQ. The drive to downtown only takes a few minutes; same with the drive to a very nice and large Safeway store."
