  • Great place on the Kona coast

"This is the eighth trip for my wife and I and it is by far the best. We have always made this trip and felt like we needed to ride and look at everything that we had seen before but we had decided we were going to take it a little easier this trip and boy did we pick the place to stay to enjoy the breeze, watch our friends the turtles, and to even see some whales and spinner dolphins, right off our lanai. We still did some riding and looking but for relaxation, this place was great. We are already talking about the next time we come and we are still sitting on the lanai waiting to leave from this trip. The pictures you see don't do it justice, it is beautiful, relaxing and has everything you need for your stay here. Thanks Holly and we will be back!"

  • Lovely Home, Beautiful View, Great Location - what more could you ask for?

"We absolutely loved our stay at Bamboo House for so many reasons. We have stayed in a number of VRBOs over the years and this was by far the finest. This is a well thought out custom home with designer touches in every room, from the turtle mosaic entry, to the koa wood floors and kitchen cabinetry, to the bamboo woodwork and glass etching in almost every room, to....I could go on and on (beam ceilings, windows that frame the ocean and garden views, outstanding landscaping, the shower room for two, mosaic of fish and dolphins in the pool to name a few.) There is artistry in the design of this home that is hard to find. The way the house is situated on the lot takes advantage of views and privacy at the same time. The tropical furnishings were lovely as well. This home has everything anyone would need to enjoy a few days, or a few months in paradise. We celebrated our 5th anniversary here and had the house to ourselves. This home would be ideal for two couples as well, as the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house. This was our first visit to Kona, and we found the location to be ideal - very close to town yet felt far removed. One of the best snorkeling beaches in Hawaii is 5 minutes away. We used the guidebook provided by the owners to find the best beaches and it saved us a lot of time. The neighborhood is gated and it is wonderful for morning and evening strolls with views all around. The home was immaculate, well stocked, and there was nothing lacking. Thank you Gerry and Mary Lou. Great effort was put into designing this home, and the same effort has been extended to make sure your guests have everything they need. There should be a 6 star rating for this home - outstanding!"

  • Not quite a luxury rental but fabulous location!

"My group of six adults stayed here for a week in August. Both the view and the close proximity to town make this an unbeatable location. The constant sound of the waves made for a great night's sleep. The master bedroom is outstanding but the other three rooms are all fairly small in comparison. My husband and I paid a larger share of the rental fee to compensate the others. This was a nice enough unit but I would not call it luxurious for several reasons. There was far more storage than we needed but the kitchen bath and hall cabinets appeared to be constructed of pressboard and due to the humid climate the vinyl surfacing was peeling off in places. The kitchen could use some additional utensils, pots, bowls, and dinnerware. The dining table was uncomfortably high so we did not eat many meals at it. The furniture on the lanais was nowhere near as nice as it appears in the photos. It was exceptionally rusty, even for a tropical climate, so we didn't eat out there often either. We had to call maintenance twice due to plumbing issues. The off-hours maintenance folks were truly bad while the daytime folks were fabulous. They even sent a plumber over on a Saturday to repair a leaking shower. I would consider renting this unit again but I would also seriously consider a different unit along the same stretch of beach."
