  • A good base for a busy vacation

"We stayed at Kona Calm in February to escape the cold of the Canadian Prairies. We were delighted with our experience and would whole-heartedly recommend it to others. Kona Calm is the perfect base for an active vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. If your group enjoys exploring and outings, and needs a comfortable and spacious home to which to return, this should be your choice. Located in a quiet neighborhood it is just a very short drive away from the Kona beaches, restaurants, supermarkets and airport. Indeed, being just a few blocks away from the main highway makes getting on the road to more distant destinations just that little bit easier. With three teenagers we wanted a property with a little space; Kona Calm gave us the luxury of four separate bedrooms. However, 10 people could be accommodated comfortably in beds, 4 on the upper floor (master bedroom, and 2 twins) and 6 on the lower floor (2 queens in one room, 1 queen in the other). With a communal area on each of the floors, this might work well for two families staying together allowing each some extra privacy. The kitchen on the upper level is well-appointed, and the wireless internet worked seamlessly, even during intensive use by our teenagers. There is a small, very basic patio at the back of the house, with table and chairs available stored in the garage. Families with young children should note that there is a drop-off with no barrier at the edge of the patio which would pose a hazard. Due to the slope of the land towards the ocean, the patio (and the bedroom windows at the back of the house) give beautiful views of the ocean. We watched the sunset, a cruise ship anchored in the harbor, and a whale frolicking just off shore. We were woken by birdcalls in the morning and spotted numerous birds including a flock of feral parrots. Our daughter loved the geckos, both green and pale pink versions, who come out to hunt insects at night. The owners provide their own recommendation of places to go and we tried several of them, all excellent. We did lots of snorkeling, and every time spotted and even swam with sea turtles. As our first visit to the Island, and with only a week to spend, we feel we have only just started to discover this beautiful place and we hope to be back before long. Meanwhile, we agree that we have found both our new favorite hawaiian island and our new favorite place to stay."

  • Great Spot

"This condo was ideal for us. It was clean, comfortable and there wasn't anything more we could have wished for. We could walk to shops and restaurants in less than 5 minutes. Bruce and MaryAnn provided a detailed newsletter which helped immensely with the locations of good restaurants and activities. The building itself is very well managed as well. You will not go wrong with renting this condo. Thanks Bruce and MaryAnn!"

  • What a WONDERFUL place to stay! We WILL rent this condo again next year!

"This was our first vrbo rental and Debi made it So easy. She was generous with her time in answering lots of questions, reassuring us (as newbie renters) as well as giving us great ideas of things to do and see while we were in Kona. We had a hard time wanting to leave the condo -- it was so refreshing to sit and watch the waves and listen to the birds and feel the ocean breezes. We both got a lot of work done, sitting with our computers on the wonderful lanai (there is a large glass top table there (with extra thick chair cushions!) which works well for dining, working, playing cards and just relaxing with drinks. We knew that Debi was accessible any time if we had any questions or concerns. She provided good, specific information (maps, directions, etc) for when we arrived in Kona -- all went Very smoothly from start to finish. The condo's location is great! We walked into town easily along a quiet side street (no traffic to deal with). We also really enjoyed the public beach just to the south of the condo complex. It had some trees for shade, easy access into the water and lots of surfers to entertain us for hours. We WILL rent from Debi again. She (and the condo!) exceeded all our expectations. I highly recommend this condo for your consideration."
