  • Welcoming arbor+ real Hawaiian experience+ real relaxation= immersion in a true Hawaiian vacation

"I've been to Hawaii before. Staying in the insulated boxes of the Sheraton/big box hotels and having a very tourist type experience that was bland and fake feeling. But staying at a home, with all the things I needed, right in the middle of the local scene was a real Hawaiian vacation. I felt more connected with my vacation and relaxed far more than in any hotel. This home is close enough to run into town and do shopping and be a tourist or better yet.... follow the locals every morning as they walk past your porch to swim with dolphins at the Captain Cook Cove (Kealalekua Bay) and local park. I loved being among the locals; feeling connected to the land and sea and felt less like a tourist in this home and more at home and at ease. It was wonderful..it is the only way I will vacation from now on and it was very hard to leave!! The home has all you need, just grab food. It has plenty of room for all and the view was wonderful and special. My 16 yr old spent his time on the top floor observation deck and that is the best place to take a nap!! The sunsets up top were amazing, BBQ in the sweet shady backyard and then have dinner with the sun and sea at your fingertips from the top deck. Stroll across the street and snorkel your heart out, walk home and enjoy the huge double shower to get the sand off and at your fingertips are the washer and dryer and sink to keep your suits clean and sand free. I found this to be so much nicer than having to worry about washing things off in a hotel room. This is a very special home to vacation in and the location was wonderful. Ill be going back as soon as I can."

  • Just about perfect getaway

"We stayed 8 days and had a wonderful time. The house easily accommodated our party of 15 and worked great for all ages (1-year-old baby to 69 year-old grandpa). We found the entire house very clean when we arrived and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen has a good stove, refrigerator and dishwasher and is arranged so it is easy to work in. The center island is large and makes a good place for serving. There are lots and lots of pot and pans, bowls, utensils, plates, etc. When we were there there were several boxes of snorkeling equipment, kids beach toys and a couple of kayaks all of which we made use of. The big lanai off the living room/kitchen is especially inviting and we spent a lot of time there relaxing, talking, eating and playing games. The yard is large and lovely with lots of beautiful flowers and coconut and papaya trees. The house feels secluded even though there are several houses nearby. All the foliage blocks the other houses. It is close to the ocean and there are areas within a couple of minutes easy walk that are safe and interesting for babies, children and adults. We saw spinner dolphins in the morning, snorkeled and kayaked later in the day. The tide pools at Manini Beach are fascinating. We found the owner and manager both to be easy to work with and quick to respond to emails. We would recommend it and would love to go back ourselves."

  • Coffee Plantation in the Jungle

"We were only there for 2 nights so didn't have as much time as we needed to explore the property. It rained both nights and we loved going to bed with the sound of the rain on the tin roof. The linai's were fun places to relax and play some games before bed. Waking up each morning to all the song birds was a treat. Next time we would rent a 4 x 4 as we hit bottom just driving down the road to the hales in our Nissan Ultima. We arrived at night and the road is not well lit as you really are in the jungle. The scenery is gorgeous. This is a remote, very private, beautiful property."

  • Location Location Location

"Staying at the Dolphin Retreat was truly a special time in paradise. The lovely sunsets and calming sounds of splashing waves were an added treat. Being located right on Kealakekua Bay, with complimentary kayaks, allowed daily opportunities to swim with the dolphins and snorkel at Captain Cook's Monument. The spacious house with its large, grassy backyard facing the bay was perfect. The Dolphin Retreat was everything we had hoped for in Hawaii and more. The only negative part of our vacation was having to leave! We will definitely be back and already miss this wonderful vacation home."
