"Our 5-day stay at Mapuana were the most magical, pleasant, and memorable of our 12 day trip to the Big Island. We found ourselves wishing we'd stayed there the whole time. The owner, an artist and writer, has created a tropical paradise in the wonderful Captain Cook area that has the essential conveniences of the modern world, but retains the best and most sustainable aspects of traditional Hawaiian life. The interior is indeed magical, appointed with original art in a tropical and spiritual style. No noisy air conditioners here, no lights from vehicles, no noises or voices of other tourists. Wi-Fi is excellent. The rental is the top floor of a home perched at treetop level for unlimited ocean views, surrounded by tropical flowers, fruits, and scents. Birds sing day and night, geckos appear when you least expect them. The deck has over a 210 degree view of the flanks of the volcano and the ocean. Sunsets are beautiful from here, and in the dawn the sun comes down the slopes of the volcano. The deck is so comfortable that it's hard to leave. The interior is not only artfully decorated, but has many comfortable places to curl up with a book or meditate. The rental is in close proximity to the small and delightful community of Captain Cook and the beautiful Kealakekua Bay. Kona is just a short distance to the North.
We'll be going back to Magical Mapuana our next stay."
