"This condo is great as a home base for an active vacation. By foot and rental car, there was more really fun stuff to do than we could handle in seven days. The bed was very comfortable. All the appliances worked. We enjoyed grilling and eating at the pool area. The owner is an old pro at this and easy to work with. It is best for early risers as the city and traffic noise hit about day break."

"We loved staying at Sally & Dave's home. It was fantastic to have a private swimming pool and hot tub to use at our leisure and this was the deciding factor for us when we made the booking. Although it is a family home and not an all-year holiday rental, we found there was lots of space for us and our belongings and we are grateful to Sally and Dave for making their home available to 'vacationers' like ourselves.
We travelled a long way to reach Hawaii so we were out and about exploring a lot; there is so much to offer on the island and we had a lot of miles on the clock when we returned our rental car. The house was a great place to retreat and relax at the end of a busy day and swimming at night is not as cold as you might expect!
A few recommendations we would make to other people visiting include the South Kona fruit stand and Da Poke Shack for breakfast. For activities, our highlights were: a wonderful sunset flight around the island with Big Island Air; visiting Mauna Kea summit with Mauna Kea tours and going to the volcano park and the crater at night. We would have liked to have explored some more of the trails at the volcano park but we ran out of time. The Place of Refuge - Pu'uhonua O Hōnaunau - is very near the house and is stunningly beautiful; I would recommend a visit. Seeing turtles was also a highlight!
Overall, we've had a holiday of a lifetime. Mahalo to Sally & Dave for helping us to make it happen!"

"The property does indeed have a sense of calm and inspires relaxation and introspection. A perfect place to prepare for Ironman whether you are an athlete or a spectator. We happen to have both in our party; competitor and spectators. Happy to share that our athlete made the podium, coming in 4th in his age division, 50-54 years old. There were plenty of linens, pillows, blankets, towels, beach chairs, beach towels, and water/pool toys. So refreshing. The refrigerator was über clean, something VERY appreciated, and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils, plates, seasonings, oil/vinegar, etc. The suggestion in the binder to look around in the cupboards before grocery shopping was spot on, thank you! In fact, the Binder itself was truly appreciated; so much helpful info in there! We couldn't have enjoyed more reading through the approximately 15 years of guest book entries. My son and I particularly had a good time with this and read through them more than once. The photo albums are also a very personal and appreciated touch. It's fun to imagine all the people that have passed over the Kona Hideaway thresholds. Close enough to downtown Kailua Kona, but far enough up the hill to get out of the hustle and bustle. We would highly recommend staying here."

"Our group was five couples on the Big Island. We arrived to find everything in great condition and very pleased to find that the property exceeded our expectations. The house was perfectly suited for our group with plenty of room and many special places to find solitude if you wanted to get away from the crowd. The beach was literally only 3 minutes walk. The kitchen and lanai were especially well suited for our large group. The kitchen was well equipped and stocked for preparing our own meals which we did often. The lanai was the center of activity. Our only suggestion would be new carpet in the bedrooms and A/C in those bedrooms without it. We had a wonderful time and would love to return on future visits. The owners were very pleasant to work with and responded immediately to any inquiry. This was a really nice house with a great location and super price. Thanks for making our vacation stay at your property special."
