  • We'll be BACK!

"This was our first trip to the Big Island. We loved our stay at the Hula Hut. We hit a real muggy/rainy period and we were comfortable at the home. The private pool is nice but we were so busy we didn't have much time to enjoy it. It is centrally located to everything we wanted to do. We couldn't do everything as the island is so big, so we'll be back. Everything and anything we needed was available at the home. Loved it!"

  • Family Vacation, perfect location.

"Paul's place is the perfect family getaway. Plenty of room for everyone. It was great having a pool and Hot tub to relax in after a busy day. Paul made sure we were comfortable, but was not intrusive at all. Saw him twice during our week, and that was to do some chores outside. The beach was a quick 10 minute walk away, and everything else You could want was a 15 minute drive away. If I am ever lucky enough to get back, I hope Paul's place is available. Maholo Paul, had a great stay! Also thank you for allowing a later than normal departure, it was a very generous thing to do."

  • Memories of a wonderful vacation at Hale Pohaku

"I wish we could have stayed longer. Our family had such a fun and relaxing vacation at this property. Everything was as we expected and hoped for. You walk into the condo and you could tell it is very clean and well maintained. Everything is very modern and new, the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, furniture, fixtures...everything. The bed and linens are of good quality and very comfortable. The kitchen is complete with nice utensils and supplies. Practically everything is provided to make you feel like you are home. A very nice beachfront property home. There are only six units in this condominium and it has a private feel. I did not see the occupants of the other units except for once when I was sitting at the lanai. It is really quiet except for the constant sound of the waves crashing against the beach and the chirping birds. There is a small sandy cove in front of the property and another a bit to the right of it. Guests at some resorts that have rocky beachfronts need to walk all the way to this one to enjoy the beach. The water has a bed that is more rocky than sandy so this is good for snorkeling as you will get to see a lot of fish even at shallow parts. Downtown Kailua-Kona is close enough to walk if you like walking. I don't so we always drove. It has that genuine island atmosphere, not the theme park feel of Waikiki. A lot of good places to eat here. One of my favorite parts was just sitting at the lanai, relaxing and enjoying the view of the ocean. I spent so much time losing myself in the scenery, watching the water and the sky and the trees swaying to the breeze. It was easy to leave the rest of the world and all my worries behind and appreciate just being there. This was also a great bonding experience for our family. We were all tired and stressed out from work and school and everything else that we have going on, that we really need this break. Hale Pohaku, this condo that we stayed in for our vacation was the perfect location for us. I wish we had more time to spend here. Next time, I'll make sure to stay longer. This is a wonderful property in a great location. I am very happy that we stayed here. I have very good memories of our vacation."

  • Highly Recommended! Will definitely return again!

"This was the best experience I've ever had renting through vrbo and similar sites...and I've never had a bad experience to begin with! In a nutshell- Wonderful place to stay, excellent communication, and the owners are just great people! First, I want to point out what great communication I experienced in dealing with Dave and Karen. They were prompt to reply to all questions. I could tell that they really enjoy helping, as all communication was thorough and never seemed rushed or like it was a bother. They truly have everything well organized and streamlined to make the process as easy as possible for renters. It was all seamless, from the reservations, to getting in the door, to wrapping things up when it was over. These little things really matter! Lots of great information was provided before the trip (and inside the condo), on everything from places to visit and places to eat. They list all items which are found in the condo (beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, etc), before you leave, so you don't have to pack them or worry about them. They really have thought of every detail. The condo: Loved it! It stayed cool with just fans and the ocean breeze. Nice furnishings. Very clean. It was well stocked with many items to help enjoy the beach, including nice beach chairs and plenty of snorkel gear. Great entertainment setup, apple tv, movies, fast internet. The lanai was very nice, private, and relaxing. The trundle bed was very comfortable and it sits in an area that you can close off to create a second sleeping area at night (closet as well!). We enjoyed their grill, feeding the geckos on the lanai, and watching the ocean. Comfortable patio furniture to relax in as well. From the lanai we spotted a large pod of spinner dolphins swimming out in the ocean. Great view of the sunset as you can see in the photos. Parking was easy and close to the building, never a problem to find a place. The area was quiet in general, great for relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and everything you might need for cooking a nice meal. The location: If you're planning to spend time in Kona, as well as travel south to some of the other beaches and sights like Captain Cook's, this is a perfect place to stay. I liked that it was so close to Kona with all its restaurants, markets, and beaches... but just far enough outside of the crowded area that it was quiet and felt safe. I will stay here next time I visit the big island! Mahalo Karen and Dave!"
