  • Wonderful views, cozy and pretty

"My husband, 8 month old son and I were so fortunate to have found this beautiful little rental for a week. Although it was unusually rainy, and my son and I were sick the first week, we still loved the gorgeous setting and cozy amenities that had everything. We enjoyed the animals on the property, gorgeous sunsets, and very comfortable bed. As we were traveling with an infant, we probably could have rented a high chair for meals as space is limited to a few chairs for patio dining. While our time was marked by unseasonal rains, the dampness at that elevation (2,000 ft I think?) was kept in control by a dehumidifier the owners provided. We were very impressed at how convenient the home was to Kailua town, Costco,Walmart and Target- yet hidden away in the lush hills. The owners were so gracious about having a small (and sick) baby stay on the property, and we felt like we had lots of privacy. As well, this location is located just minutes away from a Kaiser Urgent Care hospital - very handy for Kaiser members with children! We also thought it was a great place to do our trips to Hapuna Beach and Waikaloa village as we didn't have to go through Kailua town traffic (which is getting pretty heavy these last few years). All in all, this was a great option that was close enough to town without being stuck in a tourist zone. It truly is a gorgeous property, and the bird song in the morning is just beautiful."

  • Pleasently Surprised in the center of Kona

"We arrived after a couple days at the Hilton in Waikaloa and were not expecting a whole lot. Turns out we were quite happy with the condo. It was clean, did not smell musty from the humidity, had a comfortable bed and all the extras that you'd expect from a condo that you wont get in a hotel. We used the boogie boards, cooler container, had friends over for dinner, watched the canoers and swimmers every morning and could event see the sunset through the big banyan tree out front. The room was quiet, the lanai was large, well appointed and the air con worked fine. There was WiFi and cable. The kitchen and bath were dated but everything worked fine. It was good the have an elevator to go up and down with our bikes. The pool was never busy. We'll look for this unit if we make it back next year."

  • Great value for the view and location

"We just finished a 10-day stay in the middle unit of this 3-unit condo. The Kona area has been experiencing a heat wave and the normally wonderful trade winds were almost non-existent during our stay. We were comfortable most of the time with the many inside ceiling fans in use 24/7 for entire stay. We utilized the pool for refreshing dips a few times each day and enjoyed the huge lanai for meals and relaxing. The sunsets were spectacular from the lanai also. The unit is close to Kahalu'u Beach park that is very family friendly and has many experts on location to assist the first time snorkelers. This is an awesome area to see many turtles and colorful fish. Although the property is showing some wear both inside and out, we will definitely stay again on our next visit to Kona. The value received for the unit and the location were well worth it. Thanks again, Bill."

  • House worked out wonderfully!

"Our group of 7 adults (friends and family) stayed at Hale Melekai for just over a week and really enjoyed it. Simmy was very responsive in all our communications and when we reported problems with the gas grill at the house, the next day she had a new grill delivered and installed which was greatly appreciated (and used multiple times). The lanai is huge and we ate every dinner out there and spent a lot of time just hanging out on the large number of chairs, couches, and chaises. The wi-fi was good, the gas stove was a pleasure, and the location near Kahalu’u Bay excellent (a five minute walk to amazing snorkeling). There is a little shoreline access spot virtually across the street from the house and we watched multiple gorgeous sunsets from there. The house has a wrap-around porch that is a great place for drying snorkeling gear and towels. We even saw whales from the lanai on our last morning there - very cool! It was an excellent place to stay and helped make our vacation in Kona special and enjoyable!"
