  • Outstanding

"10 years later this was our second stay on Big Island where we spent our 10th wedding anniversary. The days before we arrived, we resided in generous suites in 5* hotels in Las Vegas and Honolulu but Tara Cottage topped those (also very good) experiences easily. The surroundings are spectacular to say the least and everything is in pristine condition. The cottage itself is super cosy (but not small) with a very sophisticated interior and has got all the ameneties one could wish for. Also Michael's hospitality was better than we ever could have expected. Despite knowing quite a bit about Big Island, Michael's "bible" contained extremely helpful information and provided us with experiences we otherwise would have missed. The outdoor shower was probably the best kind of shower we ever had in our entire live. Breakfast on the upper lanai, chilling on the lower lanai, PRIVACY, Kiholo the cute and friendly dog, wildlife a plenty, sunsets out of this world, the nightly bird concerto, we could go on forever and hope you get the idea, everything was FANTASTIC. A very special thanks also to our new friends the Geckos, they are so friendly and took care of unwanted insects. Please, if you visit Tara cottage, feed them some honey, it's their favorite. We will never forget our wonderful stay at Tara Cottage and if we ever manage to come back to Big Island, there is no question where we will stay, Tara Cottage and Tara Cottage only. Honestly, you'd be a fool to go somewhere else. MAHALO AND ALOHA from Europe!"

  • Quiet end of Kona with direct ocean view.

"My husband and I spent a week in this condominium and loved it! It's on the south end of Kona, just past the Royal Kona Hotel, so it was much quieter than being right in town, but still close to town. There was only a small grassy area between the condo and the ocean and it was great sitting on the lanai watching the surfers. Well maintained, updated kitchen (loved the cabinets), washer and dryer in the unit. AC in the living room, but with the sliders and front door open, we didn't need it. My only negative is that I'm a very light sleeper and the bedroom backs the parking lot and steps, so sometimes that was noisy at night. Except for that, we loved it."

  • Lovely Home, Beautiful View, Great Location - what more could you ask for?

"We absolutely loved our stay at Bamboo House for so many reasons. We have stayed in a number of VRBOs over the years and this was by far the finest. This is a well thought out custom home with designer touches in every room, from the turtle mosaic entry, to the koa wood floors and kitchen cabinetry, to the bamboo woodwork and glass etching in almost every room, to....I could go on and on (beam ceilings, windows that frame the ocean and garden views, outstanding landscaping, the shower room for two, mosaic of fish and dolphins in the pool to name a few.) There is artistry in the design of this home that is hard to find. The way the house is situated on the lot takes advantage of views and privacy at the same time. The tropical furnishings were lovely as well. This home has everything anyone would need to enjoy a few days, or a few months in paradise. We celebrated our 5th anniversary here and had the house to ourselves. This home would be ideal for two couples as well, as the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the house. This was our first visit to Kona, and we found the location to be ideal - very close to town yet felt far removed. One of the best snorkeling beaches in Hawaii is 5 minutes away. We used the guidebook provided by the owners to find the best beaches and it saved us a lot of time. The neighborhood is gated and it is wonderful for morning and evening strolls with views all around. The home was immaculate, well stocked, and there was nothing lacking. Thank you Gerry and Mary Lou. Great effort was put into designing this home, and the same effort has been extended to make sure your guests have everything they need. There should be a 6 star rating for this home - outstanding!"
