"The area was gorgeous. The home was also very clean and the view was spectacular. We spent money on gas and groceries and that was it. (Other than the 15$ we spent at volcano national park which was our last stop which was nice... But the view from our bedroom was honestly nicwe) lots of local parks with awesome views and 2 black sand beaches all roughly within 20 minutes of the house. The neighbors were friendly and very helpful. The weather was nothing short of perfect for our entire stay. We very much enjoyed our stay... Thanks for letting us use your home!"

"We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the upstairs part of the house and had plenty of room. Nice big living room and kitchen area with a very modern feel. I thought it was decorated very well with plenty of taste and suited our needs perfectly. More than enough cooking utensils with pots and pans and appliances to make anything you want. The house was very clean and well kept along with the neighborhood and general area. Has a large wrap around porch to sit out and enjoy the beautiful weather. The ocean was just a short walk across the street and can be seen from the porch. There is a nice little pond literally on the side of the house that wraps through a few of the neighboring houses that we swam in (has concrete steps right next to the house to get in). We split our trip up into 3 nights at this place and 3 nights in a condo/resort on the Kona/Waikoloa side. At the end of the stay we all wished we had just stayed here the whole time. It was very convenient to see the all Volcanoes and the waterfalls, rain forests, warm springs down the road, and botanical gardens. I think the Kona side is more "trendy" right now for tourists, but this side of the island is the true Hawaii for me. Thanks Jeana."

Very nice place to spend time to relax and enjoy the East side of the Island.....
"This is a great place on the South East Hilo side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Very quiet with all the things you need to make your Hawaiian vacation affordable. Cooking your own food will save you a bunch of $$ as well as having a washer and dryer to wash your clothes is a big plus. If you want to do some snorkeling, You will be close to the Kapoho Tide pools and Champagne pond which we both really enjoyed swimming and snorkeling at both these locations with the hundreds of fish. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is fairly close, but Pele the fire goddess was clam for most of our stay. There is still plenty of very interesting things to explore and see and with some of the older lava flows it seems like an alien landscape. If you stay here you will probably need a car to get to these places, but it is well worth it for the area you will be staying. Every Wednesday there is a farmer’s market near the parking lot for the beach- don’t miss that event. Friday is not the same as the Wednesday night event so make sure you get to the Wednesday night market. We had a great stay and highly recommend staying here and will be returning in the future."

"My wife and I stayed at the Hapu'u Fern Cottage at the end of February 2015 and absolutely loved the entire experience. Karen was extremely generous, friendly, helpful and working with her was a breeze. The home was very private, clean and the hot tub was really nice after a day hiking around Volcano National Park (which is located about 5mins. away by car). I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway."
