  • Amazing home away from home!!!

"How wonderful it was to arrive in Hawaii for the first time ever and have this amazing home to rest our heads. The outdoor grill, the hot tub, two outdoor showers (amazing) and the rainforest at every turn were all wonderful surprises. A fully equipped kitchen with lots of counter space to prepare suppers. Beautiful landscaping all over the property. The owners thought of everything when building this home and we felt very well accommodated. If you have kids that love to explore, ages 2 to 102, the entire back yard is wonderland, but safely mowed with trees lining the edges. Lots of birds, frogs and lizards as you walk through the yard. But not too many, nothing to deter you from pulling your chair out on the lanai and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Farmers markets were easily reached, Hilo was close, beach parks easy to reach, great shopping in Hilo and the beautiful Lava Tree State Park was right around the corner. I would recommend this lovely home to anyone venturing a trip to the Big Island!!! Mahalo to the owners for providing such a beautiful place to stay!"

  • A Labor of Love

"Our trip was amazing and the property exceeded our expectations! The owner greeted us with beautiful flowers and a true kindness. We thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous and fastidiously clean house, grounds and pool! The geckos greeted us as we ate papaya on the deck. The frogs were a beautiful lullaby to put us to sleep on this manicured historical site. A true labor of love by the owners! Mahalo for the extraordinary memory!"

  • excellent stay at Honu Kai

"Our family of four had an excellent stay at Honu Kai. From booking inquiry through departure, we felt very well taken care of. The pictures don't do justice to how close the house is to the tide pools, we simply strolled about 150, 200 ft down the street with our 5 yr old boys to get our snorkeling fix in. The house was immaculate, and very well stocked, we ate in nearly every meal and never felt we were lacking any kitchen gear. There must be about 5 or 6 ceiling fans which provided plenty of nice cool breeze on hotter days and made sleeping very comfortable. We were amazed by how well the unique sounds of the local frogs at night lulled us to sleep (this is coming from a light sleeper). To top it off the house comes with a lot of beach toys, rafts, snorkel gear, beach cruisers, chairs etc for use. Last but not least, the downstairs separate full bathroom was very convenient for washing kids off before going into the main house after snorkeling excursions. All in all, great place, great location, and great personal service and attention by the booking manager!"

  • Very nice house

"The house was great - plenty of room for our group of 7 people! It was roomy, very nicely furnished, plenty of parking, and just a short walk from the water (not swimmable though). The owner is also very nice and easy to deal with. The only downside is low water pressure - really only one water source can be used at a time, and the house is about a 20 minute drive from the main road. But the house is a great value for large groups, it's really hard to quibble over small things."
