  • Christmas vacation December 2014

"We had a great time in Hawaii for our Christmas vacation. The Hale Papa Lani residence was very well maintained with all the amenities needed, was very bright and had comfy beds. It is a little bit far out of the town of Hilo, but nice area to explore. Definitely need a car to get around. Our only big complaint about the stay was the constant barking dogs from the next door neighbour. We had a very positive experience working with Hawaiian Paradise Rentals and would rent again for sure."

  • Don't hesitate! Book an extra night or two!

"We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin and would recommend it to anyone. (If we had the budget to make return trips to the Big Island often, though, I might try to keep it a secret to ensure its availability. :) ) Pluses: - Secluded location in the beautiful, native, jungle. Nothing has been touched except the clearing necessary for the driveway and the footprint of the cabin. - Efficient, elegant design with ample natural lighting including skylights in the kitchen and bathroom. - High ceilings. - Spacious kitchen with plenty of dishes and utensils and a few basic cooking ingredients. (But, it's best to bring coffee with you.) - A bed you'd want to sleep on every night! - A few interesting books for your perusal. - CLEAN linens and a washer and dryer with detergent provided. The short story is: We would live here happily. What more can you ask? I just want to note two things that you should know before coming: - There are no shades or blinds anywhere in the house. This means you won't be able to sleep much past sunrise. (It did not matter for us, as we woke up before sunrise.) There was a waning gibbous moon during our stay, but it did not keep us up at night. The forest must do a lot to keep the light out. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is particularly sensitive to light. (But don't be worried about privacy, because nobody could possibly see the house through the forest.) - It does get chilly in Volcano at night. Should not be much of a problem, but be sure to bring an extra layer to Hawaii with you."

  • Great views and Tidepool Access

"Our family loved the ocean view from the upstairs lanai, though the passage to that came through a bedroom. And the location for snorkeling the tidepools is tremendous. The house is generally well-equipped, though there was no colander in the kitchen or working remote control for the dvd player. It's a good choice for a group, though a little more attention to small details would help."

  • perfect for groups

"We had a large group (13 people!), and it was just great - while it felt maybe a bit tight in the evenings, everyone had a bed/futon to sleep on, and it made for a fantastic "home base" for us to explore the island. The facilities/amenities were superb, and Greg was very responsive to our questions/requests. Couldn't be happier with our rental - highly recommended."
