"We chose this property because of its privacy and central location to both Volcano National Park and Hilo. The property is about 35 minutes to VNP and 30 to the nearest Walmart and other shops at the edge of Hilo. The cottage is closest to Pahoa where there are some stores and restaurants and Kurtistown, there are some stores and restaurants there as well. The place is about 5 miles from Old Volcano road which is the road the goes between Hilo and VNP.
There is a lot of privacy at this location, one can only see one home from the property, otherwise it is completely private. The property was very clean and Rich provided a bag of coffee and some fruit, which is a nice touch. It was a hot few days while we stayed there, good thing there are a ton of windows and a couple of fans that we put to use.
THe Cottage: The location is good and the privacy is very nice. For the price the cottage is on point you shouldn't expect something that the cottage is not. The cottage is clean and safe and I hesitate to mention anything negative, but the cabin does lack the high quality amenities that one maybe looking for, so if your looking for something that his high end, this isn't the place. That being said this property isn't listed as a high end place and fit our needs well. We were really glad that there is a washer and dryer, which worked perfectly for us since this stay was right in the middle of our trip.
The Owner: The communication between myself and the owner was superb. Its frustrating when one has questions and has issues and you can't get a hold of the owner. Rich was on top of every email and would respond quickly to all my questions. I don't believe any of my emails went unanswered for more than a couple of hours.
If your looking for a nice, private place to stay while visiting VNP and Hilo this is a good choice for you."

"Cottage is as described. Very clean and well stocked kitchen. The welcome book was outstanding. We did almost everything recommended in the book. Green Sands beach was also fun. Paid $40 to a local to pile into small pickup with 6 others, and well worth it to see southern most part of USA. This cottage was a perfect base for daily adventures and we miss it a lot!"

"Sea Watch is a beautifully designed, artfully decorated little jewel on the edge of the Pacific. It is clean and well maintained. It is open, with wonderful views of the ocean from every room, and the sound of the surf in the background. The lanai is a perfect place to watch the ocean. The house is situated in an inlet on the coast south of Hilo. Waves crash against the lava cliffs, and one can look down the coast to either side of the house at the tropical vegetation and the constantly changing weather.
The owner, Sam, lives next door and is friendly but unobtrusive. As others have noted, she is attentive to every need and detail. The neighborhood is quiet, with vacation homes (many quite beautiful). For quiet and privacy it is hard to beat, but one must drive a bit to get to the nearest towns.
The weather is constantly changing, from humid and rainy to evening breezes that are cool and soothing. Rain storms don't last longer than an hour or so, and generally come at night (another soothing sound!). And always the sound of tropical birdsong.
All in all a lovely place to spend time, perfect to just get away and be quiet, or a good temporary home from which to explore."

"Our experience at the Kapoho cottage was spectacular. We went with our 2 boys (7 and 3) to celebrate our 7 year olds birthday.
Not only was the cottage cute and comfortable including everything we needed, but the property was beautiful, and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. The warm water made up for the chilly and lightly windy weather on our first day, and we stayed in the pond all day until dark. It was nice to have access to the private pond as it was clean and safe for our children. We brought bread with us and fed the fish everyday. I suggest tabis or water shoes especially for children as the algae can make the steps at the main entrance of the pond very slippery.
Our boys would complain every time we had them come out of the water to eat or to call it a day when it was getting dark. They kept saying how they wished they could live there and how it felt like home. We were so sad to leave and we cannot wait to go back for another visit!"
