"We are a family of 3 and this cottage was the perfect amount of space for us. It was so much fun to swim in the beautiful ocean outside your back door. The geothermal "pools" are just spectacular! Bring your own snorkel gear. We were in the water everyday checking out all the beautiful fish. Many people pay good money to get a snorkeling trip like the one in your own backyard. We saw tons of beautiful fish everyday and even swam beside 2 Sea Turtles! It was truly spectacular! House was well stocked with towels and everything that was needed. The master bedroom is very small and the bed not too comfy. But the second room of 2 bunks (4 beds) was great. If you are a family of 4 or 5 this is still plenty of space. It's a cute funky beach cottage and we LOVED every second. If you are not big on lizards and geckos you may be a little squeamish! However, we LOVED seeing all the geckos outside and in the house. There was one in particular that must live behind the cupboards in the kitchen. Numerous times we gently removed it from the house and every time it wound up back inside. My 7 year old daughter just adored catching and releasing geckos. It was hours of entertainment. Lots of crabs down in the "pool" too. She loved seeing them and we did catch one baby one while there to check out and release. The crabs are really quick. They don't like humans and move out of sight when you get near. So again nothing to worry about if your not a big animal lover like we are.
The only negative was that along side of this property is the public access route. So there is a constant stream of people walking alongside your property to access the pools as well. We stayed Monday through Thursday which I'd consider the slow part of the week and there was still a steady flow of people each day. So it wasn't really as private as I would've liked but guess that's the price you pay to be somewhere as gorgeous as this. Others want to see it too :) We'll be back! Mahalo!"

"My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at Shangrila for four nights in May. Everything about the experience was fantastic! Upon arrival Brady gave us a tour of all the features on the property and gave us some suggestions for local events that were taking place. The outdoor bedroom in the middle of the lagoon was fabulous and great sleeping outdoors and waking up to the beautiful outdoors. Snorkeling was great in the warm waters of the lagoon and the variety of fish was great to see. My wife fell in love with Charlie, one of the resident koi fish, along with the puffer fish. There were even four Humuhumunukunukuapua'a to find in the waters. There were bicycles for us to use and we went riding over to the Waipio Tide Pools just so we wouldn't feel so lazy lounging around Shangrila all day! The outdoor bathroom was a great feature and makes you want to build one in your own home one day. All in all a great stay in Kapoho! We hope to be back one day to enjoy again! Mahalo!"

"If you are looking for a very secluded spot near Hawaii Volcano National Park, this is the spot. The house is very tastefully decorated - quality - not full of brick-brack-tack-tack. It is clean and lovely. A perfect retreat."
