  • Amazing location and great vacation house

"Our stay at Hale Haumea house was nothing short of fabulous. The owner overdid herself in providing us with everything that we needed for our vacation. First, the setting- Diane’s place is located in a very quiet and safe neighborhood surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Every morning, we were greeted with birds singing in the back yard and went to sleep with sounds of frogs doing their courtship croaks. The inside of the house was very clean and we found everything that we needed- a large fridge, coffee maker, microwave, necessary utensils and dishes as well as washing machine& dryer were all available for our stay. Moreover, the added bonus of screened Lanai and all-natural fragrance-free hair care products was a nice surprise. Hale Haumea is located in a short driving distance to an amazing black sand beach in Kalapana. Every Wednesday& Friday, there is a farmer’s market near the parking lot for the beach- don’t miss that event!! This is what island of Hawaii is truly about- great local food, entertainment and the feel of being treated with true aloha warmth and friendliness. The area of Pahoa is also a great starting point to explore one of the greatest National Parks in US- the Volcanoes National Park. We felt in love with this magical place where natural forces meet to create new land. We hiked most of the trails this park offers and we will definitely come back some day to explore it once again. In summary, we are very pleased with Diane’s rental house and can recommend staying at Hale Haumea to anyone looking for a true Hawaiian atmosphere and surroundings. Thanks Kamila&Marcin"

  • True Hawaiian Experience

"Our family of our (including pre-teen and teenager) enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. We found our cottage to be clean, spacious, full-equipped, and the view from the porch was exceptional as we had our own botanical garden in our back yard. The very short walk to the beach through a story-book forest made the adventures even more exciting. You may want to bring ear plugs if the sounds of tree frogs at night bother light sleepers. After the first night, we got use to the jungle sounds (I mean, you are living with the jungle wildlife in Puna district) and was able to get restful nights of sleep so we could play at day. Good location for exploring Hawaii Volcano National Park. Cheryl supplied us with a list of where the locals enjoy good snorkeling and farmer markets. If you come at the right time, you'll be able to pick your own fruits from the starfruit trees, mangoes, banana and coconut trees in your own backyard at this wonderful cottage Cheryl offers at such an affordable price. Thank you Cheryl! We'll be back someday!"

  • Good Value

"I would say that this is a great deal for the money if you appreciate a remote location. It is near some very interesting natural sites. It would rate five stars from me if the squeaky doors were oiled. The homeowner provided good directions and a map."

Kalapana Travel Tips

Enjoy a Beach Getaway in Kalapana Vacation Homes

Located in the Puna District on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kalapana vacation homes offer all the comforts of your home while you're away. Kalapana lodging includes a bevy of amenities, from wireless Internet service and large-screen TVs to covered lanais and gorgeous ocean views to soak in at the end of the day. The Kalani Oceanside Retreat is just a short walk from Kalapana lodging, and for a small fee guests can enjoy a 25-meter pool, hot tub and sauna, or they can opt for a relaxing massage or yoga class.

Family vacations are the perfect opportunity to spend time with your loved ones, bond as a family and escape the humdrum of everyday life. Whether you're traveling with your smaller immediate family or you're planning a large extended family gathering, vacation home rentals are ideal when traveling with families; they provide privacy that hotels can't offer and spacious floor plans. Hawaii has ample vacation homes, such as Kalapana vacation homes, to rent.

Enjoying Hawaii's Puna District

When you're not relaxing in Big Island vacation rentals, venture into the Puna District to explore nature and experience the eccentric charm of the area. Kalapana is Puna's most dramatic destination; in 1990, lava from the eruption of the Kilauea volcano engulfed the historic fishing village of Kalapana. Kalapana vacationers can hike to find a prime view of the Kilauea's Puu Oo vent, where the volcano most recently experienced activity.

Adventures on the Big Island of Hawaii

If you prefer to venture out of the Puna District for the day, the Big Island of Hawaii is the perfect place to experience adventure. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, for instance, spans 333,000 acres and features 150 miles of hiking trails that wind through rainforests, petroglyphs, volcanic craters and two active volcanoes, Maunaloa and Kilauea.
