  • Island living with an amazing view

"My husband and I arrived to lovely fresh anthuriums in the kitchen and soft music playing through the tv. Immediately went outside to see the bay view and to hear the sounds of the ocean. The property has kayak and snorkel stuff to use and we went out each day to explore the bay. When we were there the water was a bit murky but we still managed to see a couple of turtles right there in the protected cove. The red kayak is least likely to tip you over so give it to the beginner or unbalanced person of your group. We enjoyed hanging out on the lanai and in the living room so we could see and hear the ocean. We also enjoyed hearing the ocean as we fell asleep each night. The bed was a memory foam for us, not sure if that's getting replaced in the remodel they've mentioned here. Bonus - there's a washer and dryer so we were able to wash our clothes before we left! We will be coming back to this property on our next trip to the Big Island, we loved it for it's relaxing and peaceful atmosphere as well as a home base for trips to Kona, Punalu'u beach, Waimea, Akaka Falls, and Rainbow Falls. Definitely a home away from home for us. Thank you to Jamie also for all of your help! Some tips: -Use bug spray any time you're going outside or within a few minutes you'll have a generous amount of bites. -Check under the sink in the bathroom, there are some shampoo/conditioners left by previous travelers if you run out of the hotel sized hair care before the stay is over. -The kitchen does have some sugar, salt, pepper, oil, and soy sauce for your use (or it did for us). -Get some manapua from 7-Eleven when you're on the way through the town of Pahoa to get the keys (manapua are steamed buns/bao that come stuffed with char-sui, teriyaki chicken, or other delicious flavors). All 7-elevens have a variety of steamed items. -Try the different eateries in Pahoa, haven't had a bad meal yet at any of them. -Shop at the KTA in Hilo on your way to the house, they have a larger variety of foods and a larger bakery than the Malama Mart in Pahoa (macadamia nut cream pie and apple bananas). Although Malama isn't bad. -Hilo farmer's market is amazing almost any day of the week (Saturday is it's biggest day) but there's also one North of Pahoa on Sundays that is very large. -Leung's Chop Suey House on rt 11 South of Hilo has great cake noodles (and everything else). They are closed Tuesdays. -Ken's has excellent pancakes of course but also try the loko moko there."

  • Fantastic!

"It was WONDERFUL! This was the first vacation ever that we came home rested. Once we got our groceries and settled in, we didn't leave again until we needed more groceries! The ocean, tide pools, sunrises, swimming with the turtles and whale watching were magical. After two weeks, we were still not ready to leave! Thanks for sharing your fabulous home with us! • Family Retreat

"We stayed at Nanea Kai in late July/early August for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. There were 7 of us in our party including 8 & 10 year old grandchildren. The tidal pool was a big hit, both because of the Koi (the kids named each one) and because we could practice snorkeling in it. The house itself is well maintained and up to date. It was wonderful to have a washer & dryer to use. Beds were comfortable and we really appreciated the fans in every room. We traveled to the volcano, the Rainbow Falls, into Hilo, to Mona Kea Visitor’s Center, and across the island to swim and snorkel. We found restaurants & grocery stores in Pahoa although we did stop at Safeway in Hilo as we went through there. We hope that Tropical Storm Iselle didn’t do damage to the property so that others will be able to enjoy it, also. Thanks, Kim, for a great time. We appreciated your house, all your snorkeling gear & boogie boards, and especially your flexibility on our departure time. Our 10 year old grandson summed it all up by saying, as we were leaving, “I’m going to miss this place.”"

  • A wonderful stay in Champagne cottage

"Rating Details: I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was very happy with the location. The vacation rental was spotless. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We are a family of 4 and we had a wonderful 3 days in Champagne cottage . The location is amazing and the natural ponds are great fun . Kitchen is excellent and decor throughout is more than adequate . The only downside is the size of the main bedroom and the bed being rather small ( i have a pregnant wife so it meant me sleeping in the living room . Kids were happy on the large bunkbeds . Outside area is great and the 1st day we were snorkeling a large turtle came and joined us !! highlight of the trip ! ..Not sure the man made beach is useful but a few times we opened the door and went through the black sand beach which was great . All in all a great stay and i would happily come back and visit again ."
