"We had a lot of fun staying at this home. Though it was definitely an older home and surrounded by a few homes which had apparently been abandoned (probably a result of the hurricanes/ tsunamis that recently hit the area), it was a very fun place to stay for families. The kids LOVED the swimming tidal pool so much so that we couldn't get them out of it. The deck area and family/living/ room was a wonderful place to hang out. Kim, our contact, provided us with all the info we needed to make our stay just right. All in all it was a very fun staycation."

"This is a great house to vacation in in Kapoho Vacationland. It is clean, comfortable, spacious, and conveniently located near the Wai'opae tide pools snorkling area. The tide pools are a great place to snorkel on the East Side of the island. We live on the island and this was our third stay in this house, so I guess that we like it for a little get-away."

"The place is every bit as nice as advertised and Sophia was very helpful and accommodating. You should never go to the big island without seeing this side of the island. You should spend a day exploring the volcano, a day at the Hilo farmers market and at wai'Opae tide pools, and a day at waipio valley. I have been to all of the islands and Hilo has the best farmers market of all. We snorkeled captain cook, Mauna lani resort and wai'opea tide pools. We loved them all, but actually liked the tide pools the best. You must go near high tide and you will see the best fish if you swim out a little farther. We never got anywhere close to the crashing waves, but saw tons of fish. If you are reasonably in shape, you should hike down into waipio valley. There is a 1400 waterfall to the left, after you get to the bottom, and to the right is a black sand beach. If you boulder hop on the south end of the beach, you will get to a waterfall pouring into the ocean. On the way to waipio valley, don't miss Hawaii tropical botanical garden and Akaka falls. The botanical garden is the best botanical garden that I have ever seen. As soon as I got off the plane, I took the kids to see rainbow falls and pe'e pe'e falls in downtown Hilo. The kids loved it and it took all of 5 minutes. Ate at cafe pesto and Ken's pancakes in Hilo, loved them both. Went to pahoa fresh fish in pahoa. This place looks like a dive, but I loved the fish and chips. You get a choice of mahi- mahi, ahi, ono or swordfish. Hawaii is enchanting and is my favorite island. Next time I go back, I will spend 4 days on each side of the island. Do not try to drive back and forth across the island more than once. It takes 2.5 hours each way."

An authentic Hawaiian home that is true to its environment
"We came as two moms for a girls trip with our combined four daughters aged 7 to 16. It was the first of three locations we stayed on our Hawaiian adventure, and an excellent low-key place to acclimate, explore and relax. The kitchen is well-stocked, and the house is 15-20 minutes to town, so we made simple meals but also enjoyed area pizza and poke. The kids didn't tire of walking to the wai'opae tide pools to cool off and enjoy snorkeling a high and low tides, or just chasing crabs. We loved listening to the rain on the roof, showering on the lanai, and chasing after the little geckos. It was very convenient for our volcano adventure day. With two bedrooms, two baths and a couch, we had lots of room."
