"My family and I (8 of us - 4 adults, 1 senior and 3 children) stayed at the villa March 11-18 2012 and loved our time there. The location is fantastic for our group, as we are avid snorkelers. Right between Champagne Pond and Wai'opae preserve. Good jumping off point for visiting Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea Observatory, Hilo and driving up the coast to Waipio Valley, Akaka Falls and much more. Being on the Hilo side which is notorious for rain, we were fine here. It would rain through the night and be gone by morning. Besides, we love the green, more lush side of the islands over the drier, more desert like the leeward sides. The Villa is situated on a lovely piece of well maintained property. Although its in a gated community with houses all around, you still feel secluded in the home and are not bothered by other guests renting the homes around you. It was kitted out well, and we didn't seem to miss anything (only small complaint would be the beds are rather hard but that is a personal preference). The resident caretaker Audrey was fantastic! She was a great source of information and even brought us a couple of fish a neighbour caught and cleaned for our lunch one day. The villa is definitely a home away from home, and I whole-heartedly recommend this place to anyone and everyone!"Guest: Jeanne H. "My family and I arrived to this clean bungalow with fresh flowers on the lanai. The keys were in the lockbox and the best advice was to always put them right back in the lockbox in case we were to get locked out. The first thing that happened was a friend closed the door without realizing it was locked but it didn't matter because the keys were right in the box. Most days we walked to the tide pools and snorkeled. So beautiful and the fish were amazing. The drive along the Red Road to Kaimu Black Beach is super cool. We visited quite a few farmer's markets and hit the super market and fish market almost daily to stock up on food. It was great to be able to eat in everyday. The drive to Kona on Saddle Road took 2 hours and was definitely worth the trip. The location of this house was great because we definitely felt like we were on the side of the island that was more tropical, quiet and unique. My most favorite spot was the front lanai. We sat there every morning and then as much as possible."Guest: R E Date of Stay: May 2014 Review Submitted: June 3, 2014View listing
"We stayed at Nanea Kai in late July/early August for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. There were 7 of us in our party including 8 & 10 year old grandchildren. The tidal pool was a big hit, both because of the Koi (the kids named each one) and because we could practice snorkeling in it. The house itself is well maintained and up to date. It was wonderful to have a washer & dryer to use. Beds were comfortable and we really appreciated the fans in every room. We traveled to the volcano, the Rainbow Falls, into Hilo, to Mona Kea Visitor’s Center, and across the island to swim and snorkel. We found restaurants & grocery stores in Pahoa although we did stop at Safeway in Hilo as we went through there. We hope that Tropical Storm Iselle didn’t do damage to the property so that others will be able to enjoy it, also. Thanks, Kim, for a great time. We appreciated your house, all your snorkeling gear & boogie boards, and especially your flexibility on our departure time. Our 10 year old grandson summed it all up by saying, as we were leaving, “I’m going to miss this place.”"Guest: Anonymous Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 12, 2014View listing
"Our family of four had an excellent stay at Honu Kai. From booking inquiry through departure, we felt very well taken care of. The pictures don't do justice to how close the house is to the tide pools, we simply strolled about 150, 200 ft down the street with our 5 yr old boys to get our snorkeling fix in. The house was immaculate, and very well stocked, we ate in nearly every meal and never felt we were lacking any kitchen gear. There must be about 5 or 6 ceiling fans which provided plenty of nice cool breeze on hotter days and made sleeping very comfortable. We were amazed by how well the unique sounds of the local frogs at night lulled us to sleep (this is coming from a light sleeper). To top it off the house comes with a lot of beach toys, rafts, snorkel gear, beach cruisers, chairs etc for use. Last but not least, the downstairs separate full bathroom was very convenient for washing kids off before going into the main house after snorkeling excursions. All in all, great place, great location, and great personal service and attention by the booking manager!"Guest: Matt Date of Stay: April 2013 Review Submitted: May 22, 2013View listing
