A Little Piece of Heaven
"We are still thinking about the wonderful time we spent at this charming cottage in Hilo over Easter weekend. Spending the winters on Maui, we thought we had it all ..... until we stayed in this cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and is equipped with everything we needed, but the star of the show was outside the cottage, which is built right on the water's edge. The small tidal pool which the house is built over is fed by the ocean and is filled with sea life. We became friends with the inhabitants who spent their entire day in the tidal pool, except at very low tide It was like having our very own aquarium - and one that we could climb right in and swim with, some of whom were very friendly and were practically eating out of our hands. Beyond the small tidal pool attached to the property is a fabulous area for snorkeling and easily accessed from the property. A very popular destination for snorkelers, but they don't interfere with the peacefulness of the cottage and pools. Pretty shallow in many places, and with all varieties of sea life, these tidal pools really are a fabulous snorkeling spot for all age swimmers. We saw species we are still trying to identify. We loved the attractions nearby - all volcanic related and very interesting and within an easy driving distance. We chose to sleep outside on the futon on the deck and I think that is what I missed the most when I returned to my bedroom on Maui. To sleep under the stars, under a full moon, with the sounds of the ocean rocking you to sleep -that is heaven."

"What a wonderful spot to begin a 3 week vacation. We stayed here for one week; the view of the tide pools was forever changing depending on the tide. Snorkeling during high tide was fantastic, all kinds of fish. At low tide the inner pool was great for an afternoon float or walking all around the pools. Much time was spent reading outside on the patio or inside all with fantastic views when you looked up from your book. The downstairs covered grill area was great; the grill was in great shape. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!"

"Lovely home in a nice private location. Home does have the basics for your stay but found that some items that I would have considered kitchen basics (foil, plastic wrap, and salt) need to be brought in. Short walking distance to Champagne Pond which provides for a nice dip in the water, though this area is very busy on the weekends. It would be a good idea to plan your shopping/grocery trips as the nearest store is at least 20 minutes away. Drive to volcano and Hilo are both a good 45 min away but after a long busy day in these area, it's nice to come back to the home to relax and unwind. For those traveling during hotter months, there is no air conditioner; we were fortunate that during our time there, we were able to open up windows to allow the place to cool down in the evening but could see it as being a potential issue if we had traveled during summer months. Loved following asleep to the sounds of the night!"
