  • AMAZING - Super cute and the perfect location to explore the Big Island

"There is so much good I could say about this place and Laura's hospitality that you'd get sick of reading it. SO here is the gist of it... My husband and I rented a 4WD jeep (which is the perfect way to save money and explore the big island). We logged aprx 100-300 miles per day depending on how adventurous we wanted to be, but it was NEVER a boring drive. Now you don't have to travel far from the Dolphin Hideaway to have a good time, but we figured out it is in the perfect location on the island to travel from. The Volcanoes, black sand beaches, surfing lessons, tide pools, snorkeling areas, amazing waterfalls, coffee farms, the 2 mountains (Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea), farmers markets, etc are all within 20min to an hour or so. Amazing! Or you can just relax at the studio or take a mile hike/drive to the cliffs to watch the sunrise and dolphins. And the studio is great - very clean - very cute - great touring information provided - movies - books available for free use - TV if you really need - good Wi-fi - peaceful and quiet - decently comfortable bed - no A/c but opening the windows at night did us just fine - rain water feeds the studio ( which is normal in the area and awesome!) and don't worry it gets PLENTY hot if need be. Bring your own water bottles though for drinking purposes. Laura is great! She was superbly hospitable. She greeted us with a smile and had great equipment for us to use (Snorkeling gear, boogie boards, etc) and one day she gave us some homemade pesto which was awesome. She has chickens and also gave us a dozen eggs! Her place is filled with home grown vegetation and beauty. Super thankful for this place as it saved us a lot of money from staying at a resort or some sketchy cheap hotel. We were able to use the money to create the adventure we always wanted! We hope to be back one day. Thank you Laura!"

  • Gorgeous Vacation Home!

"My family and I had the pleasure of staying here for 2 very relaxing weeks. We even survived a category 1 hurricane. The house was well equipped with all of the essentials. The laundry room and an extra bathroom were located in the carport/garage, and came in handy. The pool and outdoor shower were wonderful at night, and we were serenaded by the coqui frogs. The house was a perfect layout for my family with a big screen tv for the boys and beautiful gourmet kitchen for myself. The yard had fruit trees and beautiful flowers and trees. Highly recommend this property! I'd buy it if I could....."

  • Beautiful house and grounds, very well-stocked

"My family (husband and 6 yo daughter) and friends (couple w/o kids) spent a week in this very comfortable home. It was a fabulous vacation with active and restful times. You can have this place as both launching pad and retreat. The space was great both inside and out, with lots of amenities. The house was well-stocked with everything for day outings (snorkeling equipment, beach chairs & umbrellas, coolers, etc) and had lots of supplies like spices, condiments, shampoo, and sunscreen presumably left from other guests. We added to the stock since we purchased all at the grocery store before arriving...save yourself and check out what is there before you buy more. The only drawbacks we encountered--that had nothing to do with the house--were the location and weather on that side of the island. We did not know that the "wet side of the island" means WET. There was more than the quick daily shower that we'd encountered on other tropical vacations. We definitely had some nice, sunny times and the pool/hot tub/cliffs are a great place to enjoy that. But there was a lot of rain while we were there. To get to the classic sandy beaches involved quite a drive in most any direction. However, the location is convenient for some areas like visiting the volcano. Just set your expectations for some rain and you should have a great time as well. I also want to note how great the property manager and owner were with a minor repair that was needed on the day of our arrival. It turned out not to be necessary, but they were prepared to put us up in the nicest hotel in Hilo or another rental house on the same street. We ended up getting into the house just a few hours later than planned and everything was absolutely taken care of. Overall, I would highly recommend this house if you are headed to the Hilo area!"

Keaau Travel Tips

Volcano Heat and Cool Ocean Waves Meet at Keaau Vacation Rentals

When you stay at Keaau vacation rentals, you're minutes away from one of the largest lava flows in the world. The presence of the volcano has shaped much of the Puna District's distinct landscape from the 20-foot lava cliffs towering out of the water to the black beeches dotting the coast. The heat warms pockets of water throughout the area, forming warm water pools where you can soak and relax. If you feel like learning more about the volcano, head to nearby Volcano National Park.

Nature Entertains You When You Stay at Keaau Vacation Houses

Hawaii has a variety of wildlife both on land and in the ocean, but many people especially enjoy watching the aquatic animals from the lanais, courtyards, or balconies of Keaau vacation houses. In the winter months, humpback whales enjoy the waters around the Big Island. Let their nocturnal songs lull you to sleep. During the day, watch for whales to blow water from their blowholes. The waters also attract dolphins. The animals give birth and play with their young at destinations all around the island. From the comfort of your oceanfront vacation rental in Keaau, you can also catch views of sea turtles enjoying a swim.

Tropical Gardens and Tide Pools Surround Puna District Beach Rentals

Tropical gardens filled with tree ferns, fruit trees, and flowers encompass the areas around Puna District beach rentals. Walk or drive down mango-lined roads, head into Hilo for the farmer's market where you can get fresh fruit from local growers, or breathe in the mixed blend of passion flowers and orchids. From your beach rental in Keaau, you can visit one of the nearby tide pools. The ones at Kapoho and Champagne Pools are good locations for snorkeling and swimming.
