"We have just returned from our second stay at this beautiful home. We stayed two weeks this time and enjoyed the pool, the completely stocked kitchen, the nice Weber BBQ, and the openness and relaxing décor of the house. The dining area is open and gracious, with windows all around—a perfect place to entertain friends if you choose to have company in. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with lots of closet space. The ceiling fans keep the temperature nicely adjusted. It is really a lovely place. We found many places to snorkel and explore nearby, but we were always happy to just get back to our “own” backyard and pool and the comfort of the house. Luckily, we were there as the lilikoi were ripe and ready to give their bounty. There is nothing like a lilikoi martini, and we could walk right out and collect the fruit just feet from the back door. Bananas were still green, but in abundance and waiting for the next lucky inhabitant. One of my favorite features is the outdoor shower in the pool enclosure. It is private, but gloriously open to sun and sky and enclosed in natural stone with bromeliads and ferns peeking out here and there. It is equipped with hot & cold water and is a perfect place to rinse after the pool, but I preferred to use it for regular showers rather than the indoor bathrooms—which are also lovely. We have recommended the house to our friends and would do so for anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing place to spend vacation."

  • Comfortable and affordable accommodation with friendly host

"We stayed at the Dolphin Hideaway for four nights. This studio is a good spot to base your exploration of the windward side of the Big Island due to its proximity to Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, South Point, and Hilo. Laura was very friendly and non-intrusive. She thoughtfully provided us fresh eggs from her chickens and hiking guide booklets for Volcanoes National Park (VNP). The unit was new, very clean, and well-kept. The owner's pride of ownership is apparent. All amenities were provided except laundry detergent. As noted in the listing everything you need from beach towels to snorkel gear is provided. The firm bed's linens were fresh and clean but the bath towels a bit musty. The ceiling fan above the bed and is more than enough to keep you cool at night so no need for air-con. The kitchenette includes microwave, bar fridge, coffee maker, cutlery, and dishes. A barbecue is in the carport for cooking. Washer and dryer are also in the carport. Keep in mind: 1. This is a rural subdivision so expect a few bumps in the road and the odd falling branch. The last 0.3 miles to the house on 4th Ave is a well-graded gravel road. 2. The wi-fi was slow and has usage limits. Usually able to connect to the laptop but not the iPhone. We were reminded not to use it for streaming on our second day (hadn't done so) because it was almost used up. Laura was friendly with her request. 3. Bring laundry detergent if you are planning on using the washing machine. Overall the stay was good and the price appropriate. Don't forget to drop by the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory just down the highway before Hilo and the Hilo Coffee Mill on your way to VNP! Thank you Laura for being a great host!"

  • Fabulous House

"Wonderful rental house with a fabulous pool. We stayed 2 weeks and were thrilled at how well the house worked for our vacation. The location on Kaloli point is perfect for a stay in the South Hilo area. Hawaiian Paradise Park is a beautiful neighborhood with lots of great activities and incredible views. The walk to the ocean is short and the coastline is so cool. We saw whales and turtles right from the shore. The house is as gorgeous as it looks, and by far the cleanest Rental home that we have ever stayed in (we rent at least 2 or 3 times a year). We highly recommend this house for your future vacation."

  • Wonderful homebase for Big Island explorations!

"We enjoyed calling My Hawaii Dream “home” for a week during our recent visit to the Big Island. Shelley and Jeff were both a pleasure to work with and promptly answered questions prior to arrival and quickly corrected an issue with wifi service once we were at the house. We appreciated the fresh flowers upon arrival. We found My Hawaii Dream comfortable and clean. A work-related conflict didn't allow my boyfriend to join me on my trip – instead I had my brother’s company. And while we found the living conditions suitable for our stay, in hindsight, rental of the additional space (as offered by Shelley) would have provided increased privacy and more comfortable sleeping arrangements for the second person. The house was well equipped with all necessary cooking utensils, easily allowing us to prepare meals. We did not make use of the outdoor grill but enjoyed a soak in the hot tub after some days of exploration. The sound of the coqui frogs at night was beautiful. Combined with the sound of the pounding surf, I quickly missed these natural “white noises” lulling me to sleep once we moved to the other side of the island. The location of Shelley and Jeff’s beachfront house was ideal for exploring many east-side island locations. We spent a couple of days hiking in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (the Kilaua Iki Trail was particularly fun). We explored the varied Hilo attractions (shopping, Farmers Market, Coconut Island and Banyan Drive, Liliuokalani Gardens and Rainbow Falls) and discovered a disc golf course at Naniloa Volcanoes Golf Club (make sure to pick up a map upon paying to play). We had the good fortune of visiting the summit of Mauna Kea with Native Guide Hawaii owner Warren Costa. We ventured north, taking in visits of Akaka Falls, the charming towns of Honomu and Honokaa and Waipio Valley Lookout. While snorkeling options are harder to come by on the east side of the island we made multiple visits to Richardson Ocean Park and the Kapoho Tide Pools. Via Highways 137 and 130 we enjoyed a loop drive through the beautiful Puna district and walk out to Kaimu Beach Park. The Big Island is a special place. There is a great deal to explore and the beauty is vast and varied. Our time at My Hawaii Dream allowed us to settle in and make the most of our visit on the island, while giving us opportunity to create cherished memories."
