"Julie's house in the Volcano area was excellent for us. We'd rent from her again the next time we're in that area. Here are some of the highlights:
1) Location is great. Maybe 2 miles to the National Park entrance, which makes getting in and out of the park a breeze. Nice, quiet neighborhood that's very relaxing after a long day of hiking. Property is fairly private and has lots of green space.
2) House was very CLEAN! Comfortable and has everything you need. Beds are comfortable, kitchen is well equipped with pots/pans/cooking oil/some spices/etc... Julie's maid does a good job cleaning because we found no issues and we tend to be very particular about wanting very clean space.
3) Julie was super easy to work with. Always responded quickly to emails and text messages. Very easy interaction, easy to get payment tied up, easy to communicate with. Made booking, checking-in, checking-out as simple as could be. This is less common than you'd think."

"This is a prime location, with fantastic sunrise views, access to good snorkeling (the water is warm!), a quiet neighborhood, lots of space, help close at hand, well-equiped kitchen, large deck, BBQ (it's big), and a yard big enough for a large wedding. The place is somewhat dated but is well-maintained and clean. It's off the beaten track - junk food and restaurants are a good ten minutes away - but Pahoa seemed close enough. Check out the Farmer's Market for good local and international cuisine."

"The east side of the Big Island is alternately stark and volcanic or wet, musty, and full of foliage -- in short, otherworldly. This lovely retreat, located minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and ensconced by lush fern forest, fits right in.
As mentioned before, the house is not visible until you leave your car. Once you arrive, however, you will find all the trappings of home -- towels and beach supplies, a gas grill, games and books galore, kitchen supplies, extra linens of all kinds, television and WiFi, and a unique, private bathhouse that is yours to enjoy.
The location could not be more perfect for exploring the park (you will be able to get in early or late at night for optimal viewing). The home was obviously built with care and attention and feels very homey. It will get wet in Volcano, so take advantage of the provided umbrella!
Be aware that (like most of this part of the island) this property is on catchment water. The hosts thoughtfully have a separate filtering system for your drinking and cooking needs as well as a water cooler. This was not an issue for our family at all."

"If you love nature, you will love this place! Felt like we were in a rain forest. Great location, close to the volcano park and volcano village. The house had all the amenities we needed. Matt responded to all our emails very promptly! Would definitely go back!
I would advice to get there before dark as it could be difficult to find the house if your GPS is not reliable.
