  • Ahhh...this is aloha...

"This area is my favorite on the Big Island, and this may just well be my favorite house! It's airy, open, and delightful, and the whole neighborhood is quiet and orderly. How about the house itself in particular? Well, if you're looking for relaxation, you've got it. The patio is south facing, but offers lovely shade in the mornings from the plantings on the east, and a bit in the late afternoon from the palms on the west. The bedrooms are roomy and breezy, very comfortable beds, and clean, modern, nice bathrooms, The windows, transoms and fans keep you comfortable day and night, the kitchen is well done, the laundry is new, the outdoor showers are handy, and it's well lit throughout. The Wai O'pae Tide pools are a ten minute walk down the block (there is little to no vehicular traffic, nor any beach), the night's stars are stunning (this is a Dark Skies area), and the place lends itself to conversation on the patio after dinner. The patio sits above the tide pool in the picture, and the yard is not done justice by the photos. It is, in a word or three, gorgeous, serene, lush, tropical. This NOT a tourist-y destination (that would be Kona...), this is a place for a slow, relaxed visit where you should feel at home, comfortable and bathed in the Island's Aloha. Close enough to Hilo, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, MacKenzie State Park, and Lava Tree to visit those whenever you want or need to, they're all easy drives. We ate several times in Pahoa at Pele's Kitchen- wonderful breakfasts! We were sharing the house with another couple, and had plenty of room for us all. We will be back as soon as we can, and that's the best recommendation I can give."

  • Family of 5

"Wonderful Xmas time spent in that house : everything inside -and outside- is made to feel you like home while on vacation ! On top of that the house is very close to Volcanoes national park (easy to be there early and late in the day), and not too far from Hilo should you need some groceries, or visit the north of Hilo, and if you feel the mood it is also easy to drive to South point ! We hghly recommend this cosy cottage."

  • Great property!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rabbit & Dragon! The kids (6&8) got up early every day and had a swim in the hot pond - they just loved it. The house is very spacious and well furnished. The photos don't do it justice - it's a gorgeous place. Our only complaint would be the nightly frog concert - it's very noisy and kept us awake for the first two nights. Otherwise we loved everything about this property. Thank you so much! Daniel, Noa, Loris & Isabelle"

  • A LITTLE BIT OF PARADISE

"We have just returned from our second stay at this beautiful home. We stayed two weeks this time and enjoyed the pool, the completely stocked kitchen, the nice Weber BBQ, and the openness and relaxing décor of the house. The dining area is open and gracious, with windows all around—a perfect place to entertain friends if you choose to have company in. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with lots of closet space. The ceiling fans keep the temperature nicely adjusted. It is really a lovely place. We found many places to snorkel and explore nearby, but we were always happy to just get back to our “own” backyard and pool and the comfort of the house. Luckily, we were there as the lilikoi were ripe and ready to give their bounty. There is nothing like a lilikoi martini, and we could walk right out and collect the fruit just feet from the back door. Bananas were still green, but in abundance and waiting for the next lucky inhabitant. One of my favorite features is the outdoor shower in the pool enclosure. It is private, but gloriously open to sun and sky and enclosed in natural stone with bromeliads and ferns peeking out here and there. It is equipped with hot & cold water and is a perfect place to rinse after the pool, but I preferred to use it for regular showers rather than the indoor bathrooms—which are also lovely. We have recommended the house to our friends and would do so for anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing place to spend vacation."
