  • Could not have been better!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage in Volcano. It was clean, attractively decorated and well appointed. Everything was first class - from the Cuisinart appliance to the DVD collection - over 200+ movies. The fireplace made the stay so cozy. The cottage was minutes from the National Park - a place we visit every night to see the glow of the volcano. Joan, the manager greeted us warmly, when we arrived and reminded us that a gourmet breakfast was included with the cottage. Each morning the breakfast was a feast!"

  • Very relaxing and private

"We are a Kamaaiana couple from Oahu who stayed here with my brother and an old friend and had a very enjoyable time. The house is located minutes walk from the water but is quiet and private as it is not oceanfront nor on the main road. The many bedrooms with seperate bathrooms and balconies gave everyone plenty of room. I was worried about the noise from the Coqui frogs but they were not loud at all. A very enjoyable stay and would love to return some day for another visit."

  • A Month in Paradise

"My husband and I spent a month in this paradise. Throughout that time, various friends came to stay. The house is inviting, warm, and comfortable, with all the amenities you could want. The beds are great, we all slept soundly. The gardens are luscious and green, with specks of color everywhere. Bird life is plentiful. We ate avocados and pomelos from the trees. Nearby is Pahoa, snorkeling in Kapoho Tide Pools, swimming in warm pool at Ahalanui Park, and convenient to the Volcano National Park for hikes... took many walks in the neighborhood. Mahalo Audrey, for sharing your acre of paradise and we look forward to returning next year!"

  • Romantic...Private...Cozy...Cold...

"A true GEM...If you like PRIVATE, ROMANTIC, COZY but open to the outside, COLD, NATURE and HOMEY, then you will LOVE staying at the Hale Iki. Tucked away from the street was a very lovely lighted path that took us to a cute COTTAGE. The large windows allowed for us to seem like we were one with nature. The wood burning fireplace kept us warm while providing PLENTY of ROMANCE. The FULL SIZED kitchen allowed for us to make a romantic dinner which we enjoyed outside on the covered porch (they do have a table for four on the inside in case it's too cold to be outside). The gourmet breakfast served by our very lovely host Joan 2 miles down the road was a nice surprise and very delicious. Up the narrow and I mean NARROW stair way is a very comfortable queen sized bed with heated blankets, flat screen TV with DVD player built in and more windows, but, the pièce de résistance was the 2 person soaking tub which had windows that opened up to the outside. With candles, it was the most romantic, relaxing soak I've had in a long time. Over all we LOVED the place. That was the PRO's, now the CON's....Of course not everything is perfect in life and there was a FEW things that, had it been different, would have made our stay out-of-this-world fabulous. The 2 most disappointments were the COFFEE and HOT WATER. UBAN was what they had but I would think Kona or Ka'u coffee SHOULD have been a pantry staple instead. The coffee looked as if it was purchased at Costco (over 100 miles away) and was old and stale and tasted...tangy/sour?! (I'll be sure to bring my own from home next time we visit). Another disappointment was that apparently the water heater is SMALLER than the tub. It wouldn't even fill half way up with hot water. We had to boil water on the stove to fill the tub. I super loved that it could fit the 2 of us just wished the water heater could handle it's size. I also thought there was TOO MUCH furniture and it was very OLD and DATED. I would ditch the two big chairs, small footstool and outside chairs. Perhaps replace the couch since it was holding a lot of moisture and smelled and getting some nicer chairs for the outside dining. The rugs and bedding needs updating too. Maybe a nice Hawaiian quilt for the bedding with solid color sheets & adding color with same colored rugs for the kitchen and bath. A nice fluffy rug in front of the fire would have been better than the flat kind of smelly one they had. IN THE END, WE INTEND TO VISIT AGAIN :)"
