  • As good as it gets

"We stayed two nights at this wonderful house. We were most pleasantly suprised when we arrived to find all the food we needed for our breakfasts. If you are staying for more than a few days stop in Hilo to get groceries as they are very limited in Volcano Village. This house far exceeded our expectations. We will be back!"

  • Don't hesitate! Book an extra night or two!

"We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin and would recommend it to anyone. (If we had the budget to make return trips to the Big Island often, though, I might try to keep it a secret to ensure its availability. :) ) Pluses: - Secluded location in the beautiful, native, jungle. Nothing has been touched except the clearing necessary for the driveway and the footprint of the cabin. - Efficient, elegant design with ample natural lighting including skylights in the kitchen and bathroom. - High ceilings. - Spacious kitchen with plenty of dishes and utensils and a few basic cooking ingredients. (But, it's best to bring coffee with you.) - A bed you'd want to sleep on every night! - A few interesting books for your perusal. - CLEAN linens and a washer and dryer with detergent provided. The short story is: We would live here happily. What more can you ask? I just want to note two things that you should know before coming: - There are no shades or blinds anywhere in the house. This means you won't be able to sleep much past sunrise. (It did not matter for us, as we woke up before sunrise.) There was a waning gibbous moon during our stay, but it did not keep us up at night. The forest must do a lot to keep the light out. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is particularly sensitive to light. (But don't be worried about privacy, because nobody could possibly see the house through the forest.) - It does get chilly in Volcano at night. Should not be much of a problem, but be sure to bring an extra layer to Hawaii with you."

  • Heaven in the forest!

"We stayed in mid march for 3 nights. Its one of the 'has-everything' property we've ever stayed. Because, it was bit cold in March, we didn't get to use the backyard, but it seemed very peaceful. This home is very closer to the park and also Hilo. What we love about this property is, how open the layout is and still the bedrooms are tucked-in. We were only two and didn't use the second bed room. But, but there is enough room for 4 people. We highly recommend this property to anyone. The only issue I could think so far is, might be minor leak on the shower heads, so makes the shower little harder in addition to being low pressure. Its known that Volcano does not have county water access. So, we used bottled water for pretty much everything. The owners also provide filtered water. As I mentioned earlier, its not a concern for us. But, fixing the shower head could increase the water flow little better. The owner provided clear instructions for everything and was prompt in communication and returning the security deposit. Thanks Liz for sharing your home with us. We're already planning for our trip next year!"

  • Quiet, comfortable and cosy

"The access road is a bit daunting in the dark and wet, worth it though. Hale Hubner has all the comforts of home, they have provided extra touches that make your stay very comfortable. Like good WiFi, rain coats, cooler and importantly a luggage scale. The location is excellent for volcano exploring and the view is solid rain forest. We would definitely recommend for couples checking out the Big Island."
