  • As good as it gets

"We stayed two nights at this wonderful house. We were most pleasantly suprised when we arrived to find all the food we needed for our breakfasts. If you are staying for more than a few days stop in Hilo to get groceries as they are very limited in Volcano Village. This house far exceeded our expectations. We will be back!"

  • The right mix of "cabin" and "luxury"

"We've stayed at Ferntree Hideaway several times and we love it! My husband and I have concluded that this home is perfect in every way. It is a wonderful mix of a cabin in the rainforest, but has many wonderful touches which take it way beyond "cabin". My favorite spot is the living room corner with the windows. It allows the rainforest to be part of the living space. The tub with its wall of window is also a wonderful place to enjoy being in the rainforest. This home incorporates its surroundings so well, you can really experience the rainforest while staying warm and dry! While you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, our favorite Thai restaurant is only a few minutes away and a quick phone call gets an order to go. Eating it back at Ferntree makes it all the more special. One thing which we always find amazing is how cool it is up here at Volcano. We always end up wearing our jeans and warmest "Hawaii clothes" while we are here. The bedding though always keeps us nice and toasty. Kristen is an excellent hostess and is always available for advice. It is so easy to rent from her. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Volcano and Ferntree Hideaway!"

  • Great historic home in the heart of Old Volcano

"What a wonderful stay my in-laws had here! Very spacious living area, one (master) bedroom is on the other end of the house, which allowed for privacy between grandparents' room and kids/parents conjoining rooms. Kitchen was well stocked and everything was so comfortable. There was ample firewood for the wood stove, and tons of great historical items throughout the home to investigate. Internet worked well, and access was easy to figure out with the directions provided from the property manager, Donna. The yard is wonderful, and we did not experience any noise issues from the nearby road. Only thing that I can think of as a critique, is even though it is obviously a historical and older home, it is a bit over-due for a thorough dusting service :) Lots of cobwebs and dust, in bathrooms and corners. Not really a big deal for most of us, but worth a mention. Over all a really great stay at this perfect location (close to the park and walking distance to restaurants/store and market in Volcano). We will absolutely be booking it for every family visit!"

  • Great, great place!

"The property was exactly as shown in the pictures. Very quiet and relaxing. We stayed here for 3 nights and was very pleased with our experience. The owners are very easy to work with and we would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the Volcano area. Hilo is 20 miles away and Volcano National Park is only 5 minutes away."
