  • Lovely rainforest getaway!

"Boy made us very welcome, which is always appreciated. The little cottage was so cute and cosy with its own little lanai in the rainforest with wonderful birdlife to watch over a coffee. Unfortunately we never had time to make use of the hot tub but it was nice that robes were provided for our use. The location to the National Park was excellent and the caldera is definitely worth a night visit, especially as it is only a short distance away. The drive to the tidepools and thermal pool on the far side of Pahoa for snorkelling is well worth it. The local village store was amazingly well stocked and well worth a visit. We like to support the surrounding businesses if we can. We had a great stay and it remained sunny the whole time. We would thoroughly recommend Boy & Debra's Place and should we ever be lucky enough to come to Hawaii again visiting our son we will definitely chose to stay in this rainforest hideaway again. Lovely!"

  • Peace and Quiet

"This was a perfect house for us. We only had two nights in the Volcano area and the house was a great location. It was so peaceful and quiet, had everything we needed. Very difficult to find in the dark especially when the street sign for "Hale Street" wasn't there."

  • Charming Volcano cottage!

"One of the best things about this cottage is the owner Matt who is terrific at responding to questions and sent lots of valuable information about the cottage and the Volcano area in general. The cottage is extremely comfortable and has tons of charm and we especially enjoyed the fireplace and the large picture windows looking out into the rain forest! I enjoyed some of the best sleep I've had in a long time as his cottage is extremely peaceful and quiet."

  • Awesome bedrooms, underequipped kitchen

"We (6 adults, 2 children) rented this home for a week. The home is quite nice with two ponds in the backyard. While the grounds are small they feel larger because the owner owns this home and they neighboring home with the combined effect of a larger property. The real winners at this property are the bedrooms which are large, airy, and equipped with really nice bathrooms. The lower levels common areas are small and poorly laid out with a fair amount of wasted space on the back lenai which would be better served in the kitchen area. The kitchen is tiny and not quite adequate for home's 8 person capacity. We noted in particular that the kitchen could use some basic investment (less than $200) in dishes, utensils, sharp knives, kitchen towels, and other basic items (such as a water pitcher). We have noted in the past the properties managed by an agency tend to be more frugal on such items than properties managed by owners. While you can contact this owner directly via VRBO the property is largely run by a management company. Overall this property is great with fantastic access to the tide pools, but if you're going to cook a lot or have a large group you should prepare to be frustrated by a lack adequate basic equipment."
