"I just came back from a 6 day stay in this unit. It is FANTASTIC!! The Pono Kai resort is a mix of private owners and units owned by the resort. The view is gorgeous, not ocean front, but there are no obstructed views of the ocean. The resort has other buildings that are "ocean front" but our view was just as amazing. Had to check in with the front to get our pool keys and a parking permit. Other than that, they can't help you any further with your unit since its privately owned. Grounds are well kept, and has BBQs around the buildings. What attracted to us to this unit also was the trail that was in front of it. We were not dissapointed. Its about a 5 mile trail along the coast. We rented bikes and enjoyed it everyday! Cannot beat the location also! Lots of food and shops in the Lihue/Kapaa area. The pictures provided are outdated, since the unit is not decorated the same anymore. When you walk in the couch is on the right side and there are 2 recliners on the left. Different table and the kitchen has been remodeled with new cabinets/black appliances. If you want the more updated pictures please feel free to message me and i will send them your way =). Unit was spotless, and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. Bathroom came with two towels, but obviously there were only two of us. There were beach towels provided by the unit owner. We could not get beach towels from the hotel since it was a private unit. There is a community washer/dryer you can use to wash them. There were even beach chairs! The internet in the lobby is free, but if you want it in your unit you have to pay. Not wireless either, and the instructions are in the unit on connecting. The AC in the living room works REALLY well, but noisy. We kept it on while we were away to cool the room, but turned it off once we got home since it was a little annoying. With the room cooled and the ceiling fans going, we were very comfortable. There is also a AC unit in the bedroom, but it did not cool as well as the living room. Only one AC can be on at a time from what we can tell. It was not as bad though with the ceiling fans going. Bedroom has a dresser and closet space for your needs. Bathroom was clean and pretty much like any other bathroom. I have stayed in budget to luxury hotels and in my opinion this unit was great!! i would definitely stay here again! The unit was perfect for 2 of us. As mentioned before the only complaint was the loud AC, but it wasn't THAT big of a deal"Guest: Cathy N. "We highly recommend staying at this property. Our family of 5, plus my 79 year old Dad stayed for 6 nights and had a fantastic trip. It was our first trip to Kauai and we found the accommodations and location perfect for us. We took many day trips to other parts of the island and appreciated the central location for exploring other parts of the island. Knowing that property profits go to great causes was an added bonus."Guest: Jeff Date of Stay: November 2013 Review Submitted: January 3, 2014View listing
"Stayed here Sat June 28th through Sat July 5th with my wife for our honeymoon. First off, great location for Kauai. Close to the airport so you can decompress quickly after the long flight in and centrally located on the island. Hanalei and the beaches up north are ~35-40 minutes away and the awesome hiking in Koke'e state park (Waimea Canyon) are just a little bit farther than that. Very close to lots of restaurants, grocery stores (Safeway and Foodland nearby) and lots of farmers markets, depending on the day. After you've picked up some delicious local food, you have a fully equipped kitchen to work with & the grill @ the pool is top notch. The beach at the condo is a little narrow and the water is rough (owners are upfront, they don't recommend swimming), but you get sunrise over the ocean every morning and Lydgate park beach is an easy walk away (you can drive it too, plenty of parking). Lydgate has wider stretches of sand, calmer water and great snorkeling for beginners. You've got coolers, beach chairs, beach umbrella and snorkel gear. We did not have to worry about picking up a thing or renting. The owners even had sunscreen and bug spray. To top it off, they had a bottle of champagne waiting for us and accomodated a late check out (full disclosure, no one was booked for that Saturday we left but still they didn't have to work with me on that - much appreciated!) The owners have a whole book listing restaurant recommendations, beach recommendations, activities, solid tour recommendations (we did a boat tour with Captain Andy's) and they were pretty spot on. Also helpful considering we were completely new to Hawaii and Kauai. Pictures of the property were spot on, the description was accurate and the place was clean and maintained well. Overall, it was everything we had hoped it would be. Thanks for the great honeymoon stay!!"Guest: R h. Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: July 11, 2014View listing
