  • Spacious and comfortable compound

"What a great house for a group of friends . The outdoor areas were a huge plus ... Coffee off the living room deck. Pupus on the larger deck .The big front yard made for a great game of whiffle ball. The outdoor shower was delightful after being at the beach .And the location couldn't be better. There is a fair amount of traffic on the road, but because the house is set back , it's not that much of an issue. The house was very clean and well stocked with nice towels ,sheets , glass wear , and cooking utensils . The beds were comfortable, Having the downstairs area furnished is a nice touch while bar-b-queing . All in all a very relaxing house and we will be returning ."

  • Hard to leave

"We loved our time here! The house was perfect for two families with three young kids. Having two bedrooms with twin beds downstairs was great for the little ones, and allowed for some nice separation for the adults upstairs. The lush garden really provided amazing privacy and the kids enjoyed playing out there for hours. We loved the outdoor shower, and I noticed that the owner added towel hooks in response to the previous review. We cooked all of our meals, and the kitchen was great--the only improvement would be some sharper knives. We made good use of the beach supplies, which included boogie boards, snorkels/fins, sun umbrella, mats, and plenty of sand toys for the kids. The location is idyllic with outstanding beaches super close by (we hit a different beach every day without needing to drive more than 5 miles). My wife and I enjoyed taking turns running the Nepali coast trail, which is about a three minute drive from the house. It was also nice to be able to walk a couple hundred yards down the road (or beach) to the coffee shop at the Hanalei Colony Resort. We would definitely stay here again!"

  • Wonderful Location

"This was our first trip to Hawaii and being an event planner I did a lot of research on accommodations beforehand. So, Haena Cottage lived up to all our expectations. First of all, the house is exactly as it is described on VRBO. The same goes for the gardens and the interior. Beverly, the owner and Patricia, the property manager on location are great to work with and the whole process of renting, down payment, instructions, deposit refund were handled professionally. The house is located in the most beautiful part of Kauai, about 4 miles north of Hanalei on a narrow road with several one-lane bridges. It is set among three larger houses and is surrounded by rain forest. You wake up in the morning with the sound of birds and yes, the early morning rooster crowing. Make sure to take ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper. It is a short walk across the road to a beautiful beach. If you’re in good shape, you can walk all the way past Tunnels Beach to Haena State Park Beach and beyond. These beaches are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen, but they’re not for swimming (at least not in October). Plus we had the beaches almost all to ourselves! The kitchen is equipped with everything you need inside and for the beach. The lanai has a gas grill; you can pick up fish in Hanalei and grill in the evening while you sit outside and listen to the surf. There is no air conditioning in the cottage. I liked the couch in the office; it was a quiet place to read in the morning and had the strongest signal from the WiFi. I really liked having the washing machines! The cottage is a little piece of paradise and we can highly recommend it. It’s perfect if you seek quiet, tranquility, being close to nature and walks on the beach and don’t mind a few critters and mosquitos. We prefer this to fancy restaurants and nightlife and will definitely be back."

  • Could have been perfect

"We just got back from staying at this house. The location on the North Shore was great and the house was pristine. It is well stocked and the supply room has chairs, snorkeling equipment, boogie boards and shoes to walk on the lava flats. My only negative comment and the reason why I could not give the location five stars is that the internet was horrendous. The speed was less than .25 MB/sec. I could not remotely access my office. Living on the east coast, one of the reasons why I like to vacation west is that the time change allows me to get up very early and work several hours before I start the day. This was impossible and unfortunately, like most people, my business requires a few hours of work per day. What was interesting is that the house had Cable TV. I called the cable company and they stated that they offered speeds of up to 50 MB/sec. I found it odd that a multi-million dollar house would have such terrible internet in this day and age. We were at the house for one week and we had 4 good days of weather. I would come back in the early summer for better weather. The water temperature was about 75 degrees when we snorkeled."
