"This was our first, one-week-only Hawaii vacation. Location: We read that winter on Kauai's North Shore means tall surf and potentially cloudy, cool conditions. But this is what we did within 100 yards of the house: Swim, sunbathe, snorkel (!), watch whales, bike, have dinner on the Lanei, walk on the beach, go out for dinner (Mediterranean Gourmet), see a Luaua (also at the Mediterranean Gourmet, we only caught the end of it), visit a coffee shop plus gallery. This is what we did within a 10-minute car ride or bike ride: All of the above plus hike the Napali Coast, watch an incredible sunset at Ke'e beach, surf Hanalei, shop Hanalei, walk to Tunnels along the beach, snorkel at Tunnels, buy a Ukulele. We made it to Poipu for some more snorkeling one day, but we didn't feel we needed to be on the South Shore to enjoy Kauai. The South Shore has a very different, more resort-y character, and we preferred the North Shore. The house: it's really the location that makes it a winner. You will pay a premium just to be right on the ocean. Once you accept that it is a reasonable value. And if you can budget that, it is totally unbeatable. The sounds of the ocean at night kind of envelop you, and you wake up to a beach sunrise. The house is as advertised, nice little details like plenty of bathtowels, washer/dryer, well-equipped kitchen and incredibly large bathrooms. Clean. Quite spacious for our family of 4. We dined in every day except one and kitchen was fine for cooking. Nice wood floor in the kitchen, wish the wood floor extended everywhere instead of the carpeting but that's personal taste. Interactions with the owner: Steve was very responsive. There was no micromanagement - no long list of instructions, either for arrival, for the house, or for departure. But when I had a question it was answered promptly. Mahalo!"Guest: Friederike K. Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: March 2, 2014View listing
"Where to start....this place exceeded our expectations by a long shot. The photos and virtual tour make it look incredible but once you are there it is much more special. Christine and her family have thought of every detail and more. The location is right in front of one of the best snorkeling spots we found on the North Shore. We snorkeled with sea turtles almost every day and views of breaching humpback whales were a common occurrence while sipping our coffee on the deck. It's an amazing property and well designed. My husband and I were there with our 6 year old to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and this beautiful home played a huge part in our magical trip. We enjoyed picking up fresh fish in Hanalei at the Dolphin Fish Market and cooking dinner on the grill most nights. Who would want to eat out all the time when you can cook in this beautiful and fully equipped kitchen and dine overlooking the rainbows and whales! The bathrooms are fully equipped, even with toiletry essentials (toothbrushes, razors, q-tips, lotions, etc). They thought of every detail to premeditate our needs. We brought our own snorkel gear, but the house is fully equipped with lots of snorkel gear, quite a few boogie boards, two sea kayaks, sand toys (we donated more), beach chairs, straw beach mats, a cooler and a beach umbrella. We only used the two master suites on the main level and both of the beds were very comfortable. They do offer wifi, and it worked perfectly to check in with work while we were there. We enjoyed being able to sit in the hot tub when it was drizzling out and our son really enjoyed his job of feeding the fish each day. The location is superb! The beach is beautiful, clear clean water with a break off of shore offering a protected reef for snorkeling....even when the seas are rough. It's a short drive to Tunnels and Ke'ke beaches as well as the trailhead for the Napali trail. It's also walking distance (by road or beach) to a nearby coffee shop. The drive into Hanalei snakes along the coastline and offers beautiful views. Hanalei is a quaint beach town but it's nice to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the ocean in Haena. No roosters! What else can I say but we are so thankful and feel so blessed that Christine and her family share this home with us travelers. Many, many Mahalos! We will dream of the day when we can return and we will cherish the memories we made here forever! Mahalo!"Guest: Alicia R. Date of Stay: March 2014 Review Submitted: March 20, 2014View listing
"Rating Details: I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was very happy with the location. The vacation rental was spotless. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Hale Hina is a beautiful and comfortable home to enjoy your vacation and to have quick access to the beach. Just know that the home gets very warm in the afternoon thru the evening, especially if you are cooking. The fans help. But there isn't enough cross breeze in the guest rooms or the family room and kitchen. Would be nice if the big picture windows opened to allow more breeze. So my tip is to plan on going out more during the evenings and to cook downstairs on the BBQ in the gorgeous living area under the house."Guest: Cindi Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: June 30, 2014View listing
"We spent 8 days at Auntie's Cottage and couldn't have asked for anything better. The cottage was comfortable and clean and provided us all we needed as a place to relax on our vacation. We enjoyed the jungle setting each morning as we had coffee on the lanai. A 30 second walk had us sitting on the beach watching the ocean, the surf crashing against the rocks, and our own private blowhole. The north shore of Kauai is far from the action but close to great beaches and the spectacular Na Pali Coast."Guest: Bruce and Grace M. Haena Travel Tips
Find Paradise With Haena Vacation Rentals
Haena vacation rentals are the accommodations to consider when you want a beautiful setting off the beaten path. Located on the northern part of the garden island of Kauai, Haena places you minutes from famous beaches. Lumahai Beach was the setting for South Pacific. Nearby Moloaa Bay and its beach provided the location for the pilot for Gilligan's Island. Other beaches in the area offering waterfront rental properties are Tunnels, Cannons, and Ke'e. From cottages to bungalows and from Mediterranean-style houses to condos, you can find a vacation rental with the space you need to enjoy your trip.
Relax at Haena Beach Rentals
When you stay at Haena beach rentals, you can enjoy sparkling blue water and mountains covered in tropical forests. Properties with lanais let you enjoy a quiet moment as the sun rises or sets. Some rentals include balconies with Jacuzzis or hot tubs. While many properties feature off-road privacy, you'll find modern amenities like TVs and WiFi. Hanalei Town, offering restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, is minutes away. Vacation rentals in Haena give you more space than you'd get at a hotel. Some properties have private access to the beach, which means you won't have to maneuver through a crowd to find a good place to enjoy the sand.
