Kolohala Studio in June
"My wife and I stayed at the Kolohala Studio in Haena for 8 nights in June. It was always a welcoming and comfortable place to stay at the end of the our days of hiking and snorkeling on the north side of the island. We ate breakfasts, ate our dinners, and had drinks on the quiet back patio looking out onto the mountains and field of horses. Blood pressure dropped; it felt as if you had Haena all to yourself. The studio was very clean, spacious, and had all the accommodations we needed. There were times we were so comfortable we had to remind ourselves we should get up and go do something outside the property because our time (of course) was limited and we wanted to experience as much as we could. Whether we took a left at the end of Alamihi Drive to go the short distance to Tunnels Beach, Kee Beach, or the Kalalau Trail...or whether we took a right to venture into Hanalei or Kilauea, the location of Kolohala is perfect. We felt we had all of what the north side of Kauai had to offer at our disposal. Joe, the groundskeeper, was around a little bit to prune some of the vegetation. He offered some great insight on the island and pointed out a few places to check out. The building and grounds were beautifully kept by him and his wife. If you are looking for a tranquil, private place to stay on the north side, this place is for you. It is a great value for the money, and I hope it stays that way, because people like my wife and I appreciate it. We didn't want a "resort" experience, plus we simply can't afford that. We wanted to blend in, respect and understand some of the lifestyles of the locals, and get a little taste of what "old Hawaii" might be like. We got it. And we felt very sad when we had to leave. Hopefully, we will get an opportunity to come back and pick up where we left off. I would stay here again if the chance were to surface. Aloha!"

"Debbie and Lloyd were great hosts but not intrusive. This is a simple studio with good sized bed for a couple. Additional futon bed was also good for our adult daughter. (This would also suit a couple with two young children). The combination of indoor microwave and outdoor BBQ grill with a side burner for pot or frying pan cooking was excellent. This was literally 150 steps to the quieter end of the beach. The downstairs studio also had a sense of privacy. Off-road parking for vehicle. Plenty of beach gear available for use. It is in residential area which means you do hear the occasional dog barking - but that's part of the experience. Great value when you consider the rates at properties just a short walk down Weke Rd. Perfect for our 10 night stay on this beautiful island."

The property manager was very helpful.
The vacation rental was spotless.
I was very happy with the location.
I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.
This house was a dream! Right across the street from the beach, air conditioning, and a quick walk into town. Doesn't get any better than this!! Can't wait to return :)"

"My husband and I had a lovely stay at Micco's cottage! We loved watching the birds from the lanai, and listening to the rain which always stopped miraculously by the time we were ready to head to the beach. :) We also loved the close walk to Hanalei bay. We stayed for 2 weeks and our first week we used for hiking/Kalalau and exploring - this is a wonderful place for a home base if you're exploring the island! Our second week we took advantage of how close our cottage was to the ocean and surfed/swam the beautiful bay every day.
The cottage is simple but has all the amenities you need - we cooked many nights in the kitchenette. We had a few visitors (ants) but Micco dealt with it so quickly, there was someone by to begin dealing with the issue within 24 hours, and they were gone soon after. One can expect a visitor or two in a tropical climate! :)
I would very much recommend staying here. It was a perfect place for a relaxing, simple honeymoon, or a jump off point for surfing and adventure. Thanks for the great stay!!"
