"My SO and I are both professionals with AA personalities. We were looking for a place to relax and breathe. This is such a place. This is a gated property on a secluded lake. There is much to do on the island and Steve will give you directions and advice if you so choose. For us the property was enough. I am a fly fisherman and spent a significant amount of time catching and releasing peacock bass, large mouth bass and freshwater tilapia. I was looking for Hawaii without crowds of tourists. I found it. If you want to do the usual tourist things they are there. If not, just drive through the gate and you are on a large property by yourselves. Ducks and a swan will happily join you (especially if you offer them bread)The house is very well appointed, the pictures on this web site give an accurate representation. If anything the reality of the property is better. There are multiple reviews of this property on multiple sites. They almost all say the same thing. This is a great place to use as a home base or a hide away. You have a great opportunity to do whatever you see as an ideal Hawaiian vacation. You can find lots to do with lots of people or just spend time with one. For me finding a place to do the later is more difficult. This is that place."

  • gorgeous hideaway

"We've been to Kauai several times, and we never stayed in the same place twice. This cottage, however, I would come back to. We loved everything about it: the bed with a view of nothing but green, the jungle concerts early in the morning, the peace and quiet away from the crowds (but still just a 5 minute drive to a nice beach), the thoughtfulness it was appointed with (from hairdryer, beach chairs and condiments to mosquito spray). I have to admit I was a little cautious at first about prepaying (which seems to be the norm for private accomodation in Kauai), but the owner's prompt answers to all my questions put me at ease. And everything worked out perfectly. There's only one thing we did not like during our 8 day stay: I guess it was mosquito season - and we got bitten up so bad that we hardly dared to sit on that gorgous little patio, even with mosquito coils smouldering."

  • Nice Stay in Kilauea

"Nice, private rental on the property of a private residence with a working nursery. Basic kitchen to make simple meals. We were able to come up with breakfast and dinner a few times. A microwave would be a great addition. Washer and dryer in unit were great to have. Outside tub and shower are the only option, which was okay, except there were many, many mosquitoes. Lit the little mosquito repellent coils but we were still covered in bites. If you're not a fan of outdoor critters (flies, mosquitoes, ants), this may not be the best choice for you. Bring earplugs if you aren't accustomed to the sound of multiple roosters crowing at 3:30am. Lisa was very responsive with any questions. Kilauea is a great jumping off area for a vacation. South shore is approximately an hour away (depending on traffic and construction which are guarenteed), and Princeville was less than 10 minutes away."

  • Perfect Honeymoon Hideaway!

"Highly recommend this gorgeous piece of paradise as a perfect honeymoon spot. Located a short drive away from beautiful beaches, restaurants and sights, it was nice to have our own cottage to return home to at the end of a busy day. For two people, this place is huge! We loved the high class furnishings and fixtures and spent way too much time in the awesome steamer shower. Simply put, Makale'a Palms is stunning, top to bottom, inside and out. Feels like your own private piece of tropical rainforest. My new husband and I especially loved standing in the middle of the palm tress, staring up at the stars.... We were greeted by a lovely card, flowers and welcome basket. Service and communication with Doreen from the first point of contact to our departure was superb! ONLY drawback is that we both got eaten alive by mosquitos while we were sleeping, so bring plenty of bug spray. =)"
