  • Please adopt us, Susie, we want to come back home.

"Our wonderful adventure took place the end of July, 2014. Four of us ladies, little girls at heart, discovered this sanctuary and so began the best vacation ever! With a little planning, we kept groceries sufficient in our sand castle for the amount of cooking we were willing to do. We ended up eating out only a few times, saving money for our treasures and keepsakes. The nearby gardens were lovely, the beaches were clean and beautiful, the flora was luscious. The outside shower should NOT be overlooked! In the heat of the day, the back of the house was quite warm; the downstairs shower was a luxury! Our beds were so comfortable we slept long and well. The morning and evening breezes prompted long and happy visits...the television soon stayed completely off. Views from the lanai inspired an artistic revival and watercolors soon flowed like the waves on the shore. We enjoyed the beach here and some days did not venture from this location. Oh, to hear the constant rhythm of the surf and the gentle percussion of the rain lulling us to sleep and calling to us again each new day! Thank you, Susie, for allowing us this visit with you."

  • Great house. Great location. Great price.

"I visited this house in August with my husband and two teenage children. It was the perfect size for our family and perfectly situated. It afforded us great opportunity so see both the north and side sides of the island without making an excursion to either side cumbersome. The house is beautifully situated and, even though the house does not have direct beach ACCESS, it is about a 90 second walk to the beach. The beach is very private; it's not crowded at all. The house is a waterfront property with beautiful views. We also really appreciated being able to park right under the house. When we walked in, we were impressed with how immaculately clean it was, and, throughout the week, we were thankful to find that there were no bugs. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of storage for our clothes. The kitchen was really well stocked with pots, pans, and dishes. And it was nice that the pans were of decent quality. The washer and dryer were great and it was nice to find a dishwasher too. We loved using the lanai, and REALLY appreciated having hoses with which to rinse off, not just under the house, but upstairs on the side lanai as well. The boogie boards, cooler and plastic bin for food were also a great, unexpected convenience. The house manager is easily accessible and responsive. The owners were pleasant and professional. My deposit refund was received in less than a week from when we vacated the house. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family."

  • Just far enough off the beaten path!

"My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in December. We had the most wonderful time. It is so private and though it isn't right on the beach, you can hear the waves crashing at night. The beach is just superb, quiet and secluded we rarely saw other people. The cottage is in a great location, close enough to enjoy everything on the island, yet far enough away to be private and quiet. I would recommend a 4WD vehicle especially if visiting in December as it is the rainy season. Make friends with the share the cottage with them!! :)"

  • Kauia's best

"Our family of nine (4 couples and a single) needed a place to vacation together--a place that would provide us with both large gathering spaces and room for solitude. We found that at Moloaa Shangrila in May, 2014. Every couple, and our lone single, each had their own living space and bath. The kitchen was big enough for all the cooks, and the lanai table big enough for all the eaters. When anyone needed alone time he found it out by the pool or under a tree or in his own living space. Plus the house is just fun to be in: tiger rugs on the floors, tiger paintings, prints and sculptures everywhere, Buddha heads, delicate little metal hands to hold towels in the bath, big vases of fresh flowers, and every table lamp was held by a human figure-en. And outside: the birds, the roosters, the lamps lighting up the grounds at night. We walked down to the beach at midnight and played games at the big table when it rained. Cheryl and Mike don't just offer a house they offer an adventure."

If you prefer water activities to soaking up rays, grab a kayak and explore the crescent-shaped bay. The water is populated with dolphins, sea turtles, and whales, so be sure to pack your waterproof camera. Underwater exploration through diving and snorkeling brings you closer to the island's aquatic life.

Get More When You Plan Your Kauai Travel

Kauai travel gives you a chance to relax in a secluded destination surrounded by tropical vegetation, but it also offers more. With a vacation rental in Kauai, you can get away from crowded resorts and small quarters. Depending on the property, you can enjoy luxury amenities. Let jet lag seep out of your body as you relax in a Jacuzzi tub. Enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine or a night cap. Unlike what you get at a hotel, vacation rentals give you more rooms and space. Forget trying to watch TV from a hotel bed. Kick your shoes off and prop up your feet in the living room, which can offer a large screen TV and a DVD player, depending on the property.
