"This property was a good fit for our family. Potential travellers should not that it is not fancy, but is accurately described on the site; if you need high end facilities this probably isn't the place for you. If you like simplicity and rustic charm in a wonderful location with friendly hosts, then this is your place. We loved the view from the lanai and all the great equipment the owners generously share with their guests, such as boogie boards. The owners have an extra double mattress and boxspring that they set up when needed for larger groups; it isn't shown in the photos, but was very comfortable and easily fit in the large main room. This is in addition to the fold-out couch and the queen bed in the main bedroom. The nearby beach is a huge expanse of sand with few tourists and great waves to ride. This property is also very close to the road to Waimea canyon; we drove up the canyon and went hiking twice while we were there."

"HALE 'ILIMA was a great tropical retreat - this was my 20th trip to Kauai so I have seen the good the bad and the disappointing - this home was perfect! Clean, no bugs, ocean view, walking distance to a surfing beach, great sunsets, etc! The kitchen was very functional for some local cooking and the bedrooms were very comfortable. I love the local feel of Kekaha. We will be staying again! - Mahalo!"

"The house was beautiful, the location was awesome, out of the way, and not overly populated. We had a car and went all the way to the end of the road on north the shore, and as far as you could go on the west, and everywhere in-between, absolutely beautiful. There were whales spouting frequently, we even saw some breach the surface. The bed was comfortable, my husband and I stayed in the garden bedroom, and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean every night. The bedrooms are separated enough to ensure privacy, and chose this house because of the private bathrooms each bedroom has. The lanai on the upper level was perfect, had a large table with plenty of seating, a porch swing, and a hammock. There were two other long time couples friends that we vacationed with, no complaints about the comfort of the other beds either. I would highly recommend this house, If you don't like stairs, than don't stay here. I found it great exercise...bedrooms are on the lower level. Patrick was very personable, showed us around the property when we arrived. He would let us know about event happenings in the local area. When we were on our way to the airport, he called to ask how our stay was and if there was anything he needed to improve upon for future visitors. We will be back to visit."

"Wow! The home and the setting are just grand. This was the perfect 1 week getaway for our family. We have four kids age 7 and under. They loved the hot tub and Neil's kitty cat. My wife and I loved the views and the fully capable kitchen. The grill was also a plus, because the options for eating out on the southwest coast are a little limited. Neil is a superb property manager and a very nice person. We inadvertently left behind my daughter's "puppy blanket." Neil found it and mailed it back to us just a few days later. The Xbox was a nice addition, but the kids were having so much fun with everything else, they forgot about it within a day.
Note: a wire fence runs along the entire length of the property abutting the beach, and there is no gate. You'd either have to hop the fence (challenging, and I'm not sure that's okay with the owner), or you'd have to walk out the driveway and south down the road for about 50 yards to the public opening to the beach.
Also of note: We loved having our toddlers with us, but if you have little ones, and plan to travel the island extensively, get a rental vehicle with an entertainment system.
We'd definitely love to stay here again!"
