"I hesitate to be honest because I really don't want this property to be booked to the point that we never get to stay there again. I read reviews where people said they didn't want to go see the Island because they didn't want to leave the house. Now I totally get that. Words cannot adequately describe the way this house created such a calming atmosphere for my family. We traveled with our 3 adult children and their spouses and there were so many spaces to relax that everyone felt like they had their own space to get away. We absolutely love this side of the island. We liked traveling to see the other areas of Kauai but always looked forward to getting back to the house. Waimea was our favorite town. This little town has great restaurants and is so close to several nice beaches that are more secluded. Salt Pond beach was our favorite. Our home was very peaceful and quiet. The view of the ocean from the master bedrooms was amazing. The sunsets were incredible. The house is extremely well equipped. We LOVED the lanais and stayed on them throughout our visit. They were so well furnished and had enough seating for all 8 of us. We enjoyed the home so much that we never even turned the TV on. I have rented properties from VRBO for years and this is by far the best place we have ever stayed in."

"The house was beautiful, the location was awesome, out of the way, and not overly populated. We had a car and went all the way to the end of the road on north the shore, and as far as you could go on the west, and everywhere in-between, absolutely beautiful. There were whales spouting frequently, we even saw some breach the surface. The bed was comfortable, my husband and I stayed in the garden bedroom, and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean every night. The bedrooms are separated enough to ensure privacy, and chose this house because of the private bathrooms each bedroom has. The lanai on the upper level was perfect, had a large table with plenty of seating, a porch swing, and a hammock. There were two other long time couples friends that we vacationed with, no complaints about the comfort of the other beds either. I would highly recommend this house, If you don't like stairs, than don't stay here. I found it great exercise...bedrooms are on the lower level. Patrick was very personable, showed us around the property when we arrived. He would let us know about event happenings in the local area. When we were on our way to the airport, he called to ask how our stay was and if there was anything he needed to improve upon for future visitors. We will be back to visit."

"Aloha oe Tony, our 7-day stay at the Kekaha Sunset Cottage was perfect. The property is located about 26 miles west of Lihue, (about a 40 minute drive). The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you will need. All appliances worked well. The only thing we needed to supply was the food we wanted to eat. We were able to utilize the Navy Exchange facilities at Barking Sands to that end. There is one market in Kekaha and 2 in Waimea that you can purchase food items. The decorations in the house are minimal and done in a Hawaiian motif; I especially liked the chart of Kaua'i in the main hallway.
Sunset Cottage is located in a neighborhood that is real Hawaii, not a resort. The house is located away from all of the resort properties and the associated crowds that are drawn to them. It is located 2 short blocks from a non-crowded beach area, (even during Prince Kuhio Day) where you can watch fantastic sunsets each night. After enjoying your day or night at the beach, an outdoor shower can be used to rinse off prior to entering the house. There are beach towels and chairs available for use along with a washer/dryer to clean your clothes for the next days adventure.
This side of the island is very arid, we had no rain at all in Kekaha during our stay, while it poured in Poipu, Lihue and the North Shore on various days. This does tend to make it a little warmer than other areas of the island.
There was a farmers market in Kekaha on Saturday starting at 0900 but items were mostly gone by 1030. However, good deals and delicious fruit were to be had if you got there early. You must try the apple banana (they are shaped like a small Chiquita banana but have a slight green apple taste). The less traveled back way to Waimea Canyon is located close by which leads you to the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. There are numerous hiking opportunities in this park. In addition, Waimea is a short 3 miles down the road and there is so much history in this town, you can spend an entire day exploring this quaint town. There is a 90-minute walking tour with historical markers pointing out the major items. Waimea also hosts the oldest monkey pod tree on Kauai. Also, stop by Jo-Jo’s for the best shaved ice on the island (shameless plug), but the service can be slow.
Kekaha Sunset Cottage No Ka Oi, Mahalo nui loa Tony, for allowing us the use of your wonderful house. Looking forward to our next visit to Kauai and the wonderful Kekaha Sunset Cottage"
