  • The Awesome Kekaha Sunset Cottage

"Our family attended a family reunion in Kekaha and the Kekaha Sunset Cottage was the perfect lodging place for our stay. Little did we know, it was in walking distance to the Kekaha Community Center. The listing accurately described the property and the photos reflected the overall appearance and amenities. Upon our arrival to the cottage, we were amazed to see the beautiful, modern, hawaiian decor and how meticulously neat and clean the place was. The gazebo outside was a relaxing place to sit & chat while taking in the breeze. The ceiling fans in the house were great since it was so hot & humid. The Wi-Fii availability came in handy to occupy our grandson with games on the iPad. Tony, the property owner, is very accommodating and understanding. He will work with you to ensure a pleasant and memorable stay in Kekaha. We would highly recommend this property to friends and relatives; it is a "home-away-from-home." Aloha & mahalo Tony!"

  • Exceeded Our Expectations!

"If you're like me, you have experienced disappointment upon arriving at the rental or resort of a well-planned vacation - that will NOT happen to you with this house! As soon as you open the door of Shaka Hale, you feel as though you are being welcomed into the lovely home of a friend. It is beautifully decorated; elegant, yet comfortable. Nothing has been overlooked to ensure that your stay is anything but enjoyable: fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, plenty of linens (including beach towels), quality mattresses/bed linens, washer/dryer and 2nd refrigerator in the garage - we even discovered multiple beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling sets and boogie boards. A pleasant surprise! My family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys over 6') was joined by 4 other adult family members - and we never felt crowded. The 2 separate living areas and multiple lanais provided personal space for those who wanted to relax or read, yet the roomy, open floor plan downstairs allowed us to gather for meals and plan our next day of adventure! A road separates the house from the ocean, but the landscaping you see in the picture provides a buffer - as well as a path to the long, sandy beach that awaits your morning walks :). We never had rain on this sunny side of the island during our stay, though you probably will get wet if you visit the East or North shores. This house is conveniently located to Waimea Canyon, and it's an easy drive to the beaches and restaurants in Poipu, Spouting Horn and the Allerton Gardens. We actually appreciated being able to return to our quiet "neighborhood" after a full day of sightseeing or adventure and enjoy a glass of wine on one of the lanais, watching the sun set over the ocean :). Must-dos: snorkeling at one of the many beaches in Poipu, Waimea Canyon, Napali Coast boat tour, North Shore (how many shades of green are there?!), shave ice at Hee Fat in Kapa'a, Allerton Gardens (bring bug spray!), air tour, sunset dinner at The Beach House. Last, but not least, Chad (rental agent) is amazing to work with! From my first inquiry he was very responsive, generous with his time, and went out of his way to be informative and helpful - ensuring that our stay would be memorable. He even facilitated having a "happy first anniversary" sign I made being hung in the house to greet my niece before our arrival! Our experience was that we weren't just another "transaction" to him. Shaka Hale - and Kauai - awaits you . . . :)"

  • Amazing Lanai and sunny skies!

"We just returned from a week stay at this house and I could not have been happier with our choice. Having been to Kauai before, we knew we wanted to be on the west side of the island, away from all the tourists, hotels and RAIN! From what others said it rained all week in Lihue, Poipu and the north side, but we had sunny skies every day. This house is an easy walk to a small beach to the east, but about a mile to the west is a gorgeous white sand beach that we went to almost every day. It was very easy to keep the boogie boards and beach chairs (all provided by the house) in the back of our car and go back and forth. There were days that we were the only ones on that beach, and days where we would watch surfers for hours. If you haven't been to Kauai before, then you may want to spend a few days on the north side as it is really breathtaking, but since we had done that before we knew we wanted sun and we got it in Kekaha. We did one day trip up to Hanalei and it was an easy 1.5 hour drive. At this location you are also very close to the Waimea Canyon (not to miss), Polihale Beach (also well worth the dirt road drive, it is a very private beach nestled right up to the Na Pali coast) and the Na Pali coast boat docks. We found Waimea to be a very cute little town (5 minutes away), there is a grocery store, a few little restaurants and shops. MUCH less commercial than other parts of the island. The house itself is very spacious. The kitchen has everything you need and is very modern. All of the bedrooms are well equipped as well. The showstopper for this house is definitely the lanai, I could have sat there all day watching the ocean and looking for whales (we saw lots). I also really enjoyed sitting out on the patio outside of the main bedroom on the bottom floor, which also has a beautiful ocean view. Patrick, the owner, was very responsive and great to work with. The one drawback (if there has to be one) would be the noise from the highway, but it really wasn't an issue for us. We have two children and it didn't keep them up at all - at night the highway noise is negated by the sound of the ocean, and during the day you have such a beautiful view of the ocean you really don't even notice the cars. We will definitely be coming back to this property on our next trip to Kauai."

  • Paradise!

"This is the second time we have stayed on the island of Kauai. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The pictures/description are exactly what is stated on the listing. The west side is a little quieter than the east side of the island, but that was what we were looking for. Shopping/grocery store/beach are not far from the property. It was great when a neighbor brought over a coconut for us to try. Lance (person taking care of the property) brought us some bananas and checked to see if everything was okay with our stay. If you are a photographer you will love the different flowers to photograph. The property is not far from the Waimea Canyon. Would rent this property again!!"
