"HALE 'ILIMA was a great tropical retreat - this was my 20th trip to Kauai so I have seen the good the bad and the disappointing - this home was perfect! Clean, no bugs, ocean view, walking distance to a surfing beach, great sunsets, etc! The kitchen was very functional for some local cooking and the bedrooms were very comfortable. I love the local feel of Kekaha. We will be staying again! - Mahalo!"

"The house was beautiful, the location was awesome, out of the way, and not overly populated. We had a car and went all the way to the end of the road on north the shore, and as far as you could go on the west, and everywhere in-between, absolutely beautiful. There were whales spouting frequently, we even saw some breach the surface. The bed was comfortable, my husband and I stayed in the garden bedroom, and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean every night. The bedrooms are separated enough to ensure privacy, and chose this house because of the private bathrooms each bedroom has. The lanai on the upper level was perfect, had a large table with plenty of seating, a porch swing, and a hammock. There were two other long time couples friends that we vacationed with, no complaints about the comfort of the other beds either. I would highly recommend this house, If you don't like stairs, than don't stay here. I found it great exercise...bedrooms are on the lower level. Patrick was very personable, showed us around the property when we arrived. He would let us know about event happenings in the local area. When we were on our way to the airport, he called to ask how our stay was and if there was anything he needed to improve upon for future visitors. We will be back to visit."

"We rented this home from Scott after weeks and weeks of searching through VRBO postings for the perfect house for a 2 families of 3 for a week long vacation. We communicated often with Scott leading up to the visit. Scott was quick in responding and thorough in providing us information about the area and answering all of my questions.
Upon arrival, the home was spotless, current with appliances, furnishings, décor, etc... the layout is unique in there are 2 master bedrooms, one downstairs, one upstairs. Both very comfortable for the 2 sets of parents in our group. The 3rd room worked out really well for our 2 teens, giving each one of them their own bed and space to spread out over our week-long vacation.
The views from the lanai are amazing! Nothing but ocean as far as you can see. I read other reviews regarding the road that runs alongside the front of the house... yes, there's a busy road but it doesn't distract from the views of the ocean or the experience of sitting out on the lanai for morning coffee or evening cocktail. It's a busy road.
The 3 bedrooms have individual air conditioning units. There is not air conditioning for the rest of the living space, so afternoons are hot inside, even with the windows open and fans on. We had one issue with the downstairs master bedroom air conditioning unit not blowing cool air when on. Scott responded to my complaint immediately and had a repair service out on Monday morning to address and fix the unit. The 2 master bedroom units were pretty noisy though. We all had to sleep with ear plugs in to block out the noise of the units. I'd prefer to be cool than worry about noise, so just mentioning this in case others are light sleepers and crave cool air while sleeping... bring ear plugs.
The yard around the home is lovely. There's chickens and roosters everywhere, along with beautiful plumeria trees and other tropical flowers. We didn't get bug bites at the house so I'm guessing the chickens help keep control of the Hawaiian mosquitoes.
We cooked often at the house and the kitchen is well equipped to accommodate. There are a few small markets in town, but they're really expensive. Scott recommended we stop on our way in at Costco, which we did. Note that Scott keeps really fresh condiments and spices loaded in the fridge and cupboards so you don't need to buy fillers. All in all we loved the house and had an amazing vacation. I'd rent this exact home again next time we visit Kauai"

"I found out earlier in the year that my services were needed at the PMRF to support a NASA Balloon Launch. Since I had never been to the PMRF or Hawaii for that matter I was referred to the VRBO website. After looking at few spots on the westside of Kauai I settled on the Hale Kekaha for my long term stay. The location was absolutely perfect! Literally across the street from the beach so beach access was never an issue. In fact with the windows open and the ceiling fans on I had the best sleep ever away from home especially with the sound of the surf pounding just outside my window. The unit has a fully stocked kitchen with all cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc along with a gas oven, stove top and a microwave. The unit also has full washer and dryers with plenty of washing detergent and fabric softener. There were plenty of bikes, boogie boards and snorkeling equipment for recreational use and there is never ever a shortage of towels, either for the bathroom or for use at the beach. The porch features an outdoor dining table and deck chairs which offers the a great experience for dining or having an evening cocktail. Both the front and back doors feature French style doors with screens to keep the bugs and to cool the house down with a breeze. The landscaping was breath taking and I was able to get excellent shots of rainbows over the ocean with all the coconut palms in the background. There is wireless internet access to keep in touch with the "outside world" and although I never used it they do have a flat screen TV with a DVD player. The sounds of the surf and the view from the front porch was all the entertainment I needed and provided for a very relaxing stay, especially after a long day at work or a fun day of recreation. The location is just minutes away from fine dining in Waimea, the Kikialoa small boat harbor for the Na'Pali tours and road to scenic Waimea Canyon. The only complaint I have is the fact that Highway 50 does separate the property from the beachfront and the sound of automobile traffic can be a very minor distraction from an absolute oasis of relaxation but that is being nit picky! Overall I highly recommend this property for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy resort atmosphere of Lihue or Poipu. Kekaha is a very relaxed town and if you did not know any better one would think you were in Main Street, USA but with a beach. As the sign says above the front doors WESTSIDE-BESTSIDE."
