"We absolutely loved this cottage! Although the West side of the island tends to be a bit warmer and less rainy, this spot is tourist free and old-style island living. As a returning resident of the islands, I wouldn't want a condo or hotel. We loved the privacy of the grounds, the plumeria and banana trees and the hibiscus hedges screening the front.
The outdoor shower was wonderful! Nothing like being under blue Hawaiian skies, watching the clouds, palm trees and Monarch butterflies in the Crown Flower bushes from the lot behind the unit.
The interior of the unit was very welcoming. The living area was so relaxing at the end of the day, and the bed in the "master" was wonderful. We loved the breezes flowing through the room each night. I loved the kitchen...the restoration made me feel like I was back in Old Hawaii. I felt like I was "home".
The beach is within walking distance, but this is not your average swimming beach. During our stay, the waters were pretty rough, but we made use of the shore by walking and watching sunsets with Niihau Island in the background. Other swimming beaches will require a drive. This was not an issue for us.
The unit was supplied with everything you would need to enjoy your stay; towels, water fun gear, full kitchen and more.
We went to the Kauai Coffee Plantation, Koloa Rum Company, Waimea Canyon, Kalalau Valley overlook, Wailua Falls (saw a wild pua'a) and Poipu Beach. We would recommend Brennecke's Beach Broiler for dinner in Poipu. Get there for Happy Hour and sunset. Great Mai Tais, food and service! Ka;apake Joe's in Waimea was good, too!
We would definitely return here in the future! I'm missing the roosters crowing in the morning..."

"There is not much more that I can add to the other great reviews about Mindy and Dave's rental other than to support that everything that has been previously written is absolutely, 100% correct. The unit is immaculately maintained as are the grounds and the views toward the mountains in the morning are fantastic. Your hosts can't be beat and are about as nice as can be, welcoming you with delicious baked goods and providing anything you need from cooking needs, to books, to beach gear, and more. The proximity to Waimea Canyon for an early morning hike or to drive up to Kokee and hang out in the cool meadow on a hot day down at sea level is great and allows you the opportunity to visit at different times of the day, which I recommend. The cross breezes and ceiling fans, along with the most comfortable bed I've slept in a long time provided a great night's sleep after active days. Like others have mentioned, sunsets are only a few minutes walk to the beach and Waimea town has any food needs you might need. There are also several locally owned shops/cafes etc in town with a wide range of products. I guess to sum everything up, Mindy's is the perfect base for a Kauai get away for those who appreciate the more relaxed local flavor of the island's Westside as a means to experience true aloha. Thank you Mindy and Dave for a terrific week! Can't wait to be back..."

"The house was beautiful, the location was awesome, out of the way, and not overly populated. We had a car and went all the way to the end of the road on north the shore, and as far as you could go on the west, and everywhere in-between, absolutely beautiful. There were whales spouting frequently, we even saw some breach the surface. The bed was comfortable, my husband and I stayed in the garden bedroom, and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean every night. The bedrooms are separated enough to ensure privacy, and chose this house because of the private bathrooms each bedroom has. The lanai on the upper level was perfect, had a large table with plenty of seating, a porch swing, and a hammock. There were two other long time couples friends that we vacationed with, no complaints about the comfort of the other beds either. I would highly recommend this house, If you don't like stairs, than don't stay here. I found it great exercise...bedrooms are on the lower level. Patrick was very personable, showed us around the property when we arrived. He would let us know about event happenings in the local area. When we were on our way to the airport, he called to ask how our stay was and if there was anything he needed to improve upon for future visitors. We will be back to visit."

"This is our 4th year staying at Hale Lokahi, and we've already put down a deposit for next year. Everything you've read about the house from others is spot on. Chad is easy to work with and Sarah took care of a broken screen door in one day - exceptional customer service. We've rented other VRBO houses, and none of them have the well-stocked kitchen that this home has - especially dry goods (spices, pasta, rice, canned goods) and refrigerator condiments (salad dressings, sriracha, wasabi, soy sauce, mayo, relish, other surprises). We love walking to Ishihara's every morning to get a newspaper and something fun for lunch (which flavor of poke today?) or contemplate what to grill for dinner (Kekaha shrimp? Char Sui chicken? Teriyaki beef?). Wrangler's is fun for dinner, and a walk via the beach to Kalapaki Joe's is fun, too. Don't forget to have a shaved ice and eat at the Shrimp Station. Dragging out chairs every evening to watch the sunset with a glass of wine, returning to cook dinner, laying on the beach after dinner to marvel at the stars, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves relaxes us beyond belief (as evidenced by my husband's FitBit). So much to do on Kauai! Absolutely love love love this house!"
