"This was a very neat cottage... elevated in the rainforest. Nights were amazing being out in the middle of lush land and the stars were incredible. Washer and stove were broken due to a power failure... which unfortunately made cooking difficult b/c the cook top provided was too small for the pans so twice the pan slipped and nearly burnt my arm with bacon grease so be aware if its still broken. But Hana is so far from everything that we understood how hard it must be to get repairs out there. So we made due. Otherwise, the cottage was very charming and the location was ideal for visiting that part of the island. Beautiful surrounding property as well. Mahalo Amanda for letting us use your darling place."Guest: Amber T. Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: October 6, 2014View listing
"This was by far the best place we stayed at during our recent trip to Hawaii. That included three hotels in Waikiki, and two places on the Big Island. If I have ever dreamed about a place to go to relax, retire permanently , or even a little slice of heaven this is it. We knew it would be good when we drove in after following very well written directions and found our names written on a chalkboard at the front door. From there the discovery of this well-thought out cottage kept us saying "Oh wow!" There's a nice jacuzzi tub when you enter, on a enclosed patio with a reading area and a breakfast table. The living space includes a very comfortable bed and amazing sofa table in the TV area. The kitchen is well equipped, and has a few nibbles to keep you from starving. The best part of all is the bathroom, with a shower room that is covered is green tiles - with live orchids and a skylight. We couldn't say enough positive things about our experience here, would never stay anywhere else in Maui (perhaps except Hana because the trip to get there is so taxing) after staying here. We're afraid to write too good a review because others may book our spot the next time we want to go. If you are interested in this property then look no further, you won't find anything better."Guest: Aussie Boys Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 31, 2014View listing
"It was amazing. The view is like no other. It was like our own house with our own space. It was so beautiful. I will definitely come back to visit. Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful place"Guest: Teresa Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 24, 2014View listing
"We are a local Maui family who lead a very busy life as business owners with two small kids (yes even in Maui life can be crazy and hectic!) We love to escape to Hana to really slow down and feel like we went back in time. This is the first time we stayed at Mack's shack and I can say with certainty it won't be the last! The first night we were there we told the boys the wifi and tv was broken (even though it was not) and with no cell service or tv to distract us, we connected as a family like we have not in a long time. Being off the grid was a very cool experience and it gave us a chance to teach our kids about renewable resources and how we should not waste energy. We loved walking the property, picking fresh guava fruit from the trees and just relaxing to the ocean view. There was no need that was unmet and the house was in beautiful condition. It was so much nicer than we thought it was going to be, I think it needs a new name as it most certainly is not a shack! We liked to call it our cabin, I felt like I was "glamping" which is pretty much the only kind of camping I participate in so it was perfect. A hot shower and a well stocked kitchen is the way to go! I would highly recommend this property for anyone who is looking for an authentic Maui experience. Who needs pools when you can jump into a natural pool at the bottom of a waterfall or take a short drive to some of the most epic beaches on the entire island!!"Guest: MauiGirl808 Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: September 7, 2014View listing
Huelo Travel Tips
Huelo Beach Rentals: An Escape from Hawaii's Tourist Crowds
To experience Hawaii at its best, it is possible to get away from the crowds and have a relaxing vacation. Stay at Huelo beach rentals and you won't be dealing with crowded resorts, since the community of Huelo is bounded by the ocean and small farms and organic gardens. At Maui vacation rentals such as this, activities such as horseback riding, swimming, snorkeling, and even hiking are abundant. Twin Falls, a 127 foot high waterfall, accents the beauty of Maui's natural surroundings, as does the Waikamao Nature Trail.
Forget the Stress and Take in Nature at Its Purest
Huelo condos also give you and your companions space to enjoy their personal freedom. It is not like going back to a hotel room where everyone is on top of one another. Leave the stress behind and enjoy the peace of mind of a spacious, low-budget accommodation. Step outside and the mountains, ocean views, waterfalls, and lava cliffs will carry your mind away from the hectic life at home. Experience summer at the beach, and then travel 10,000 feet up Haleakala volcano where it can be downright chilly at the same time.
Nothing Like Geology and then a Home-Cooked Meal
Other interesting geologic features can be found at Iao Valley State Park, where there is a 2,250 foot stone pillar and lush plant life, providing for spectacular views. Travel the Road to Hana and see more picturesque landscapes at the Keanae Peninsula. The Hana Highway itself is a challenge, offering a path 52 miles long in three hours time. You'll surely want to lay back at the Huelo beach rentals afterward, even staying in for a home-cooked meal in the kitchen. At Huelo condos, you can choose to do anything you would normally do at home, if you don't already feel you're there.
