"We stayed at Sybil's Gatehouse at Papalani for 2 wonderful nights. As other guests have stated, it's a perfact little cottage in Paradise! Sybil is the most gracious host and Tracy is "Mr. Fixit" for sure! They both did everything possible to make our stay memorable, and it was. I can certainly recommend Sybil's beautiful Gatehouse cottage for anyone looking for a beautiful getaway in one of the most beautiful locations, not just in Hana, but in all of Maui! I plan on coming back several times next winter when I'm again wintering in Maui, and will be bringing some of my other lucky friends to share this wonderful bit of Paradise. Aloha nui loa, Bill"

"Recently I attended a medical conference in Ka’anapali on the west coast of Maui. My travel companion and I decided to diversify our experience of the island by staying the rest of our days on the north coast, which is less developed and less touristed. In looking for accommodations, it was with great fortune that I came across Maui Ocean Breezes, located just outside the town of Haiku where we spent six magnificent days.
Not only is there plenty to explore close by, Haiku is located centrally enough that anything you may wish to do on the island is well within reach. The amenities at Maui Ocean Breezes fit us to a tee; we watched the sun rise from our patio, I swam under the stars in the saltwater pool and indulged in the peace and calm of the quaint little yoga hut. Our accommodations were not only comfortable, they were spotless; with a fully functional kitchen for cooking at home.
Ken and Anjali DeSure have been very thoughtful in their creation of this retreat for people who want a taste of a deeper and more authentic Maui. Along with their son, Alex, they are gracious and generous hosts in sharing their little chunk of paradise with their guests."

A little piece of heaven--absolutely wonderful place to stay!
"My friends and I were on a girls' getaway and spent 4 nights in the Jasmine suite. The house is very clean and well-stocked with kitchen items. We enjoyed using the provided beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach towels. The washer & dryer was nice to have too, and laundry soap was provided.
The views from Ekena are amazing. It was tempting to sit on the porch all day long! However, we decided to enjoy exploring Hana: Oheo Gulch (take the 4 mile hike along the Pipiwai Trail!), Red Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach, Koki Beach, Hana Farms stand (banana bread is the best around--we recommend the pineapple banana bread!), Coconut Glen's (great ice-cream, strange service), Troy's plate lunch (near Koki Beach), etc. So much to see, do, and eat! :) If you want fresh chicken or fish, be sure to get it on your way to Hana. The local markets in Hana only had fresh beef. We were able to purchase fish from a local fisherman during our stay and it was delicious.
Back to Ekena, Jasmine suite: There are two rooms: one had a king bed, and one had 2 twin beds (that can be made into a king if you desire). All the beds were comfortable. There's no a/c, but there are fans all around the house & plenty of windows and slider doors to keep things at a comfortable temperature. The Wi-Fi worked really well, but there's no cell phone reception. We didn't mind a bit! If you do stay at Ekena, be sure to wake up to watch the sunrise at least once while you're there. It's beautiful.
The location is great: about 2 minute drive to the town of Hana and about a 35-40 minute drive to Oheo Gulch. So nice to be able to get to the gulch earlier than all the day-trippers!
We loved our stay at Ekena and highly recommend it. Robin was incredibly helpful with our questions and so pleasant to talk to. It was a pleasure meeting her and Gaylord. Mahalo for everything! :)

"We'd never been to this area of Maui before, and were completely charmed by the lushness of the landscaping, the views of nothing but flora and fauna, and the wonderful rain showers that seemed to happen just when we wanted to sleep or needed to cool off. The property is extremely beautiful, and lovingly maintained. As veteran travelers, we were all highly impressed that there was just enough of everything you need in a kitchen/bathroom, etc. There were even several really sharp knives, something I've never found in a vacation rental in my entire life! These folks know what they're doing. We hope to visit again, and will definitely recommend it to friends."
