A little piece of heaven--absolutely wonderful place to stay!
"My friends and I were on a girls' getaway and spent 4 nights in the Jasmine suite. The house is very clean and well-stocked with kitchen items. We enjoyed using the provided beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach towels. The washer & dryer was nice to have too, and laundry soap was provided.
The views from Ekena are amazing. It was tempting to sit on the porch all day long! However, we decided to enjoy exploring Hana: Oheo Gulch (take the 4 mile hike along the Pipiwai Trail!), Red Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach, Koki Beach, Hana Farms stand (banana bread is the best around--we recommend the pineapple banana bread!), Coconut Glen's (great ice-cream, strange service), Troy's plate lunch (near Koki Beach), etc. So much to see, do, and eat! :) If you want fresh chicken or fish, be sure to get it on your way to Hana. The local markets in Hana only had fresh beef. We were able to purchase fish from a local fisherman during our stay and it was delicious.
Back to Ekena, Jasmine suite: There are two rooms: one had a king bed, and one had 2 twin beds (that can be made into a king if you desire). All the beds were comfortable. There's no a/c, but there are fans all around the house & plenty of windows and slider doors to keep things at a comfortable temperature. The Wi-Fi worked really well, but there's no cell phone reception. We didn't mind a bit! If you do stay at Ekena, be sure to wake up to watch the sunrise at least once while you're there. It's beautiful.
The location is great: about 2 minute drive to the town of Hana and about a 35-40 minute drive to Oheo Gulch. So nice to be able to get to the gulch earlier than all the day-trippers!
We loved our stay at Ekena and highly recommend it. Robin was incredibly helpful with our questions and so pleasant to talk to. It was a pleasure meeting her and Gaylord. Mahalo for everything! :)

"My son and I just returned from a week kiteboarding at Friendly Beach. The week was perfect....blew every day, great vibe from other riders and residents. Launching can be tricky so better for intermediate riders on up. Spent mornings traveling to swim at waterfalls or hike and every afternoon kiting for 4-6 hours. Appt. was everything we needed. Ray, Viv and Sevin were great hosts. We will return."

"We stayed for two nights in Hana at this wonderful private, home surrounded by nature. It was so nice to leisurely drive the road to Hana - making as many stops as we wanted and never feeling rushed. We then spent a day in Hana and at the Sacred ponds and finished up our time by driving the south side of the island. The views in this area are outstanding."

"We based ourself here during our recent trip to Maui. The owner Dave was very accommodating, with helpful tips and advice. Nothing was too much trouble and he made us feel very welcome. The studio is set in a beautiful enclosed court yard below the main house with outdoor space to enjoy your breakfast in the morning. The studio was clean and well stocked with everything we needed during our stay. It is within walking distance of Paia with all the shops, restaurants and great beaches. Paia is a cool vibrant little town and we enjoyed being able to walk into town during the evenings for dinner. It's in a lovely part of Maui and an ideal location if you enjoy surfing/ kitesurfing."
