"We had a great stay!! The room is just as described and worked well for 2 people. We love the restaurants in Paia and enjoyed both Baldwin beach and Hookipa nearby."

  • A truly unique location on Maui

"A bit on the reviewer(s): Family of 5 (kids 8,6,3). Family loves the beach. All very active in swimming and all things ocean. Parents are well traveled, frequent visitors to Maui, and consider a "tourist vacation" of hotels and pampering, out of the question. #1 - Ray Masters is THE MAN! What a wonderful host. Easy going, very helpful, there if you need him, and silent if you don't. Maui has a "Renaissance" man. His name is Ray Masters. #2 - If you like a perfect, private beach, from which you can swim, snorkel, SUP, windsurf, and pretend your a cast-away, you're going to love Friendly Beach. Our experience was that we would schedule hikes and other types of excursions for the kids during the day, and after completing the event always say, "Why did we leave our house?! Its much better just hanging at Ray's!" #3 Expectations matching. We're a family of 5. Ray's Suite is just that, a Suite. We happen to be a family that enjoys being around each other. (Mom and dad in bedroom, with 4 yr old on bedroom floor, or in bed with us. 8 and 6 yr old on futon in main room.) If you're like us and prioritize location, the ocean, and serenity over, bumping into tourists and hotel living, easy decision. For a couple, or for a family of 3, easy decision. For water sport enthusiasts, easy decision. Mahalo Nui Loa, Ray!"

  • Perfect little rental and Paia is wonderful!

"Adorable condo in great complex. 1 minute drive to town but coffee shop small grocery store next door. Everything you need is provided and Martha is great. Mama's Fish House is next door. snorkeling beach is right outside complex. Great to get away from the tourist hotels in Lahaina. Having laundry right there with kids is helpful. I adore Paia. We noticed no noise from the Hana Hwy at all the entire time. Make sure you get the back gate code to go to the beach. It just changed. We would come back for sure. My kids loved it too and felt like they lived in Paia, saying it was the best part of the trip and beat the Hyatt and Sheraton on Kaanapali."

  • Rad. Enough said.

"As I write this, I am still here in Nessie's Place, but I just have to review about what a great stay it's been. Loch, the owner is a fantastic soul with a knack for making you feel really at home, and setting up Nessie's place to feel like your home on Maui. The beds are comfy, the crosswinds through the big spacious windows is cool and tranquil, and everyone has plenty of space to hang out or to rest a part from all the fun things to do in Maui. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you could need to prepare a luscious Hawaiian dinner and Mana Foods, the world's best natural food market is just down the street for all your grocery shopping pleasures! The showers work great, washer and dryer on site, free fast Wi-Fi (although you will only need it to upload all your pics from your amazing day on the beach), and located conveniently to EVERYTHING. Loch lives on sight and is easy to get a hold of if you need anything, and since he is a local, he knows all the answers to any of your questions while you vacation. My girlfriends and I highly want to recommend this special space to you, as you will not be dissapointed, but will want to come back to Nessie's again and again! Some other tips for your trip: Shop at Mana and get stuff for breakfast, and save money eating out at lunch and dinner. Be sure to go to Cafe De Amis for crepes and Tahitian Poisson Cru. Be sure to go to Flatbread for Gluten-free pizza with local ingredients. Visit Haiku just up the road for some Maui Kombucha and Hawaiian Toast...don't ask, just get it and you will adore it. Take a day and spend it at Makena beach but watch for "the vortex". You'll know what I mean when you have no trouble getting into the ocean, but watch your friends laugh at you as you try to get out. Contact Miranda of Maui Mana Adventures for the SUP adventure of a lifetime. I paddled with whales, you could too! Best money you will ever spend. Period. After you visit Makena, eat at Pita Paradise in Wailea. They bring fresh Big Eye Ahi Tuna in that day and slice it up. I've never had fish so fresh! That's it! You will love Nessie's Place, and you will love Maui. Tell Loch "the mermaid" sent you!;)"

Paia Travel Tips

Experience Small Town Hawaii with Paia Vacation Rentals

Paia is a tiny town of about 3,000 residents on the north side of the island of Maui, in the Hawaiian Islands. The fact that Paia is so quiet and tiny is what makes this small town a fabulous travel destination for vacationers who truly want the rest and quiet that can only be found in a tropical paradise. Paia was once a cane plantation, but now it's just a few streets of tourist shops nested among villas, all next to a beautiful white sandy beach. If you're looking to stay there, upcountry Maui cottages and plantation-style Paia villas are available through Vacation Rentals by Owner.

Lodging in the Windsurfing Capital of the World

Paia is known as the windsurfing capital of the world. The shores of northern Maui provide plenty of wind power for windsurfers, and annual competitions are held there. For a tiny town, it's even pulled in some big names. United States Senator John Kerry likes to vacation there and practice his windsurfing hobby. And singer Willy Nelson likes to eat at the local restaurant, 'The Fish Market,' when he's on the island. Paia is only about 20 miles northest of Kahului Airport, which connects to Oahu.

Staying Upcountry Maui with Vacation Rentals by Owner

A vacation rental is an arrangement in which an owner of a private property rents her property to a vacationer. For example, a vacationer in Maui could get to stay in an upcountry Maui villa, and cut costs by having extra members of their party, and cooking meals in the villa's full kitchen, instead of eating takeout. The small, cozy villas of Paia also give visitors to the town an intimate experience; you can stay in someone's home, like a local, instead of in a large hotel. Some upcountry Maui cottages are even right on the beach.
