"My wife, 5-year old daughter and I stayed at the Tropical retreat for 5 nights. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Tropical Retreat cottage. The cottage is very spacious, as other reviewers have noted and has a well-equipped kitchen including a dishwasher and fridge - I actually can't say enough about the fridge - it has a crushed ice setting which is perfect for making an extra cold glass of water, which is perfect for Hawaii's hot summer days. I think our daughter is now addicted to water it tastes so good! :)
The cottage is really well situated for Maui adventures. You are only 1 mile away from the start of the "Road to Hana", very close to Baldwin beach/baby beach, and also to forest walks and the Haleakala Crater.
Being in the upcountry, the area also feels more 'real'. We later stayed in West Maui, and visited South Maui, both of which feel like one big strip mall by comparison.
Everything went great during our stay and the only negative is that you don't have much of a view of the ocean (the volcano is behind you but is usually covered by clouds by the afternoon). That said, you do have a comfortable patio where you can lounge in privacy with a cold glass of wine so we didn't mind too much.
One caution: the closest 'big' grocery stores are about 20+ minutes away so stock up before you arrive!
I really recommend this place!"

"My husband and two boys stayed in the sunrise unit for 3 nights. Our experience was great! Avis is very hands on and answers any questions you may have. We were able to check in early and she left the air on so we could come into a cool room. There was a basket of goodies in the fridge for us and the room was very clean. Great advantages is a closet full of linens, towels, water purifier, and there is a washer and dryer available outside the unit. We were able to meet Avis the last day and she was the sweetest thing! We will definitely stay here again:)"

"A couple of weeks ago, my wife, myself, our four children, and her parents rented the entire house for five glorious days and nights. This B&B is the most unique and peaceful one we have ever stayed at. It is conveniently located near the mostly undiscovered town of Haiku, the small but bustling city of Paia, and the world famous Road to Hana. The Master bedroom offers a ton of space, privacy, and a great view of the gardens. The Ariel suite offers both garden and ocean views. The August suite, which my wife and I stayed in this time, offers a great ocean breeze as well as views of the tropical foliage and ocean. It is more than a B&B, its a home. The amazingly pleasant owners, Chris and Susan Gebb, raised their family in the home and you can feel the love that still permeates throughout. The Gebbs are full of good stories about their life in Maui, as well as suggestions for things to do and places to eat. However, they seem to have the skill to be there when you need them, but not around when you want privacy...amazing talent. If you are looking for true relaxation and tranquility, Windward Gardens is the place. You can stroll the amazing gardens or sit on the lanai with a cup of coffer or tea and look at the tropical gardens and ocean. I know I have said amazing about a million times but there is no other word that comes to mind to describe this indescribable place. We are definitely going to stay at Woodward Gardens again the next time we visit Maui."

"This was our second time in Maui. Our first trip there, we stayed in a resort in Wailea, thinking that - considering the price - it would be as charming as what we had imagined. This second time around, we were in desperate need of some authenticity, and this cottage was everything we hoped for! Our stay at the Maui by the Sea cottage was perfection! The cottage – which is simplistically decorated – had everything you need to prepare your own meals, which allowed us to live like locals and experience the real Paia. The property is right next to the sea and is a spot loved by sea turtles. We didn't have to go snorkeling to see them, all we had to do is eat breakfast and count them! But what we truly appreciated during our stay was our amazing hosts. Their kindness and generosity are unprecedented. Valérie had concocted us a list of great tips and places to see while in Maui, and left on a few occasions local fruit baskets on our door step for us to enjoy! We are glad we got to meet such a lovely couple.
We would strongly recommend this place!"
