"We had a wonderful stay in Makawao! This home is beautiful. It is laid out very well and takes full advantage of the spectacular views! Mark, the owner, is extremely friendly and very responsive. We couldn’t have asked for more. The kitchen comes stocked with everything you need to cook a good meal. The full size W/D and laundry room is also very nice to have. We really appreciated all the additional amenities: beach chairs, snorkel gear, hundreds of DVDs, Apple computer, and more. Also, the furniture is extremely comfortable making the house a great place to hangout. The house is close enough to easily walk to Makawao which is a very friendly town that offers several great dinning / shopping options. Overall, this is a beautiful, well equipped house with a very responsive owner. We stayed here for one month and couldn’t have been happier!"Guest: Chris E. "The Listing description didn't include the aloha spirit that is part of Upcountry Maui. The photos reflecting the rental's appearance are right on!......Including the cat with a Namaste sign in the background. The property is clean and well maintained - gardeners and maintenance folks seemed to be always doing something helpful. There was always someone on hand to answer questions. The fun town of Paia is either 4 minutes down the hill (if you're 13 years old or 15 of you're 65). The grocery store, Mana, local eateries, the shave ice lady's place are all favorites for our family. I'd soooooo recommend this place!"Guest: MaryAnn A. "We are truly enjoying our stay in this wonderful cottage. We took a hot tub last night and enjoyed dinner and breakfast on the deck, surrounded by ginger plants. It is peaceful, clean and quaint. The bed is comfortable and the owners are nice and very accommodating. We have a condo in sunny Kihei (Maui Kamaole I-117) but we enjoy a relaxing get-away to the rain forest of Hana to spend time on the beaches & on the rugged coast. The weather was wonderful and Hana has breathtaking beauty. We hope to stay at Tradewinds Cottage again soon."Guest: Yvonne "Sam" S. "A bit on the reviewer(s): Family of 5 (kids 8,6,3). Family loves the beach. All very active in swimming and all things ocean. Parents are well traveled, frequent visitors to Maui, and consider a "tourist vacation" of hotels and pampering, out of the question. #1 - Ray Masters is THE MAN! What a wonderful host. Easy going, very helpful, there if you need him, and silent if you don't. Maui has a "Renaissance" man. His name is Ray Masters. #2 - If you like a perfect, private beach, from which you can swim, snorkel, SUP, windsurf, and pretend your a cast-away, you're going to love Friendly Beach. Our experience was that we would schedule hikes and other types of excursions for the kids during the day, and after completing the event always say, "Why did we leave our house?! Its much better just hanging at Ray's!" #3 Expectations matching. We're a family of 5. Ray's Suite is just that, a Suite. We happen to be a family that enjoys being around each other. (Mom and dad in bedroom, with 4 yr old on bedroom floor, or in bed with us. 8 and 6 yr old on futon in main room.) If you're like us and prioritize location, the ocean, and serenity over, bumping into tourists and hotel living, easy decision. For a couple, or for a family of 3, easy decision. For water sport enthusiasts, easy decision. Mahalo Nui Loa, Ray!"Guest: Al S. Date of Stay: January 2014 Review Submitted: February 12, 2014View listing
