  • Excellent Rental at Honua Kai

"Our rental experience couldn't have been better. From the time we first inquired about the property to the day we left, Terry and Jill (the property owners) were in constant contact with us and answered every single question we had, right down to the most mundane details. Having hosts who are so involved in managing their property made the experience so much more pleasant than other VRBO experiences we've had. We received detailed instruction prior to arrival so that we know exactly what to do when we got off the plane in Maui. That really streamlined the process and made check-in super easy. The Honua Kai property itself is pretty spectacular, and this particular unit is no exception. It is spacious with a full kitchen, a large master bedroom and bath and an exceptional balcony overlooking the ocean. It's a bit hard to describe, but the door and windows to the balcony actually had the ability to fold away so that you could turn the entire unit into an open air room. Terry and Jill are very thorough in maintaining the unit. We were pleased to find a binder on the coffee table chock full of information from the various features in the unit, to recommended local restaurants, to fun activities to do in Maui. We ended up referencing this binder on more than a few occasions. After checking out of the Honua Kai we spent three days at the Four Seasons and both my wife and I ended up agreeing that we preferred our stay at Terry and Jill's place at the Honua Kai. Better accommodations, more accessible environment, more interesting part of Maui. We plan on returning to Maui and when we do we will definitely try to rent this property again."

  • PERFECT for Whale Watching Part 1

"I selected this condo for the unobstructed 180 degree view. Condo is smack on the water. The condo sea wall has waves splashing on it during high tide. Whales come very close, almost to the breakers, turtles like the reef right out front. Snorkelers, kite surfers, boogie boarders, canoes all fun to watch. Tall lanai chairs perfect for viewing. We rarely left the condo except for groceries and felt we had plenty of room. We spent most of every day on the lanai eating many of our meals there. Despite overcast weather we spent all day most every day watching whales and taking photos. We got photos of some gorgeous sunsets. Some of the whales use a channel very near breakers in front of 504 so lots of close whale activity for watching and photographing. Whale watching outboard canoes sit in the channel to wait for whales. One group of canoes had a whale hang out with them entertaining them for over half hour including a breach! Sunday we saw continuous whales from sunrise to sunset. A pod of spinner dolphins came through the closest channel - lots of leaping fun to watch. Saturday a snorkeler was followed, then surrounded by 4 small turtles - snorkeler swam off and they followed for a while before returning to browsing for algae on the reef. King bed very comfortable. Wave sounds perfect for lulling to sleep. Closet and drawer storage adequate for 2 people. Bath crowded but workable for one person at a time. Lots of drawer storage! Wonderful shower - roomy with great shelves for your soap, nice pressure for washing off sand stuck inside bathing suit - be sure to use the foot wash by the beach stairs to get sand off before you enter the building. I like the convenient squeegee for the glass shower door. Love the glass block wall and lovely picture on tile wall. Kitchen is compact, but has EVERY thing you could need. Review cupboards before shopping - nice selection of spices etc. Follow instructions for the garbage disposal. I kept a closed plastic bag next to the sink to add fibrous food during the day and dropped it down the super convenient trash chute directly across the hall each night. Keep open packages in the refrigerator (cereal and bread). These practices will help prevent the tiny but determined Maui sugar ants from finding anything. TV and DVD work great - be sure to follow instructions carefully. Wonderful lanai doors are smooth and easy to move so be gentle - force not needed. NOTE: Leave door key in lock for 3 seconds until green light on."

  • Perfect Spot for our Anniversary Trip!

"This was our second stay at this condo. By far, the best in value, location, and amenities. The owners do a wonderful job of providing everything you'll need for a great vacation. Their description is spot on. The building is the closest in Eldorado to the beach and convenient to the parking garage. The condo itself, besides being clean and well appointed, comes complete with beach umbrella and chairs, snorkeling gear (although we bring our own), boogie boards, and a hair dryer that has enough power to dry long, thick hair! We discovered Maui travel books, CD's, DVD's in the room, and a deck of UNO cards that accompanied us to the cabana more than once! Steve has been attentive and efficient on both occasions to respond to any requests/questions throughout the reservation process and stay. We find the location to be perfect for us in being within walking distance to the Kaanapali area south of Black Rock, but without the crowds. A mile north along the beach is a great area to snorkel, Kahekili Park (by car, left turn at Kai Ala). Still our favorite find...Taco Tuesday at Leilani's. Thank you, Steve and Linda, for the welcome bottle of wine and for another memorable and romantic trip to your home in Maui!"

  • Great view and location

"Amazing views. Great location. Some noise but it was not a burden. Great music we could hear from down the Whalers Village. Not all day. Very quiet after 10:00 pm. Always something to see and enjoy. We enjoyed looking at the people down at the Village having fun. Great happy hour at the restaurants down bellow. We had everything we need for our stay, except wine opener which we bought and left it for you. The unit needs some updating, but it was ok. We had a great time. Thanks Ashinc."
