  • Great Vacation

"This place is all about the location. The walk to beautiful Kailua Beach Park is under 5 minutes and it is FANTASTIC!! Carly and Jeff were more than helpful with places to go and things to do and Jeff was a great help in renting Kayaks for a day. Everything you need for a day at the beach is already there!! The place is nice and private and everything is plenty comfortable. We did not use the kitchen much but it was certainly an adequate place to cook a couple of meals. Thank you Carly and Jeff we had such a wonderful time!!"

  • Lucky Lanikai

"Ideally situated, just off the Lanikai loop, this cottage offers a perfect antidote to long, brutally cold midwest winters. We were graciously welcomed by our host and presented a well-appointed and meticulously clean 2-level. Kitchen and sitting area are on the top floor and 2 bedrooms are below. Four guests can be accommodated comfortably. The neighborhood is quiet and the beach is a short walk away. Off street parking could not be any more convenient. Lanikai is no longer much of a secret to travelers these days, but it doesn't much matter, the sand is still the best on the island. A short commute to Kailua gets you to restaurants, shopping and Whole Foods. Don't miss Lanikai Juice...we were there every morning. We encountered only one minor irritation (certainly out of the hands of the host)...Verizon cell coverage is spotty in that area, no surprise I suppose when you realize that you are standing between the Koolau mountains and the vast Pacific. It didn't bother me, but I can imagine that a more cell-phone dependent individual might be frustrated."

  • Incredible View, Awesome House, Perfect Location!

"I was fortunate to be able to stay at Honu Hale Lanikai with my Mother and 2 of her good friends for 2 weeks. I'm their designated driver...it's a dirty job but someone's go to do it! A few years back we stayed in Kailua and discovered Lanikai and we have been hooked ever since! Our family owns a cottage on a tiny island in The Bahamas and we know great beaches and Lanikai is among the BEST! So to be able to stay right there with that gorgeous water and the Mokes as our view was absolutely incredible! The house is extremely well appointed and was very clean. It's amazing how many extras there are: beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles, outdoor furniture, plenty of extra towels (including beach towels) and sheets, everything for the kitchen even a salad spinner! We love to cook and a well stocked kitchen is so greatly appreciated. There is no dishwasher (not a worry at all for us!) but there is a washer and dryer. The photos of the house are very accurate and as far as the location description the only 'problem' is that the stairs down to the water seem to have deteriorated since the photo was taken. They are not easy to climb (very rough and slippery) so to gain access to the water you have to walk to the other side of the Paul Mitchell estate or 2 houses down the other way. Definitely NOT a big deal! Speaking of the Paul Mitchell estate, it is gorgeous and according to their website it rents for $7200-9300.00 per night and Honu Hale Lanikai has the exact same view! To access the beach from the house, you can walk (it's about 1/4 mile) or drive there and park. Or you can do what I did a few times and walk or swim in the water, maybe you'll see a turtle! Kailua has 3 supermarkets, a Whole Foods and a Sunday morning Farmers Market, so it's very easy to get great produce. We got lucky a few times buying fresh fish along the way to Haleiwa, look for signs along the Kamehameha Hwy. Getting to Honolulu on the Pali is fast and easy. We went to the Academy of Arts that has a couple of wonderful exhibits, Art Deco in Hawaii and Natural Unnatural Supernatural. Lunch there is very good. Also we had lunch at the Hao Tree at the New Otani in Waikiki and it is awesome! The salmon eggs benedict was incredible. We had an absolutely fabulous time. If you are considering a stay on Oahu, look no further. Honu Hale Lanikai is perfect! Mahalo John for opening up your lovely home to us, we can't wait to come back."

  • Great House, Great Location, Great Owner

"If you are new to VRBO, get this place. We rent from VRBO several times a year, and while we haven't had a bad experience, this has by far been our best. He has been doing this long enough to know his house, and his clientele. He was very easy to work with, and extremely responsive. So much better than going through a management company. The house itself is just a short walk from Lanikai Beach, and around the corner from Kailua. Lanikai is great for snorkeling. We liked it better than Hanauma bay (although I would recommend Ko'lina for the really little ones). There were no waves on the beach, so it was fun for the kids to just snorkel around. The sand is great. The house is large, and really just a great setup. We slept 6 very comfortably. We were in Hawaii with several families, and we had the best house as far as setup and location. You are only 30 minutes from about everything. North shore is a little further, and the west side, but just drive to those early in the morning and you won't notice any difference. They had several things to spend your time doing at the house if you are interested. We really just slept there, so the location was the best part for us. We loved that the beach towels were there. The laundry machine worked well and fast, so we didn't spend whole days doing laundry. We didn't have any problem with bugs, although if we had, I wouldn't worry, as it is the tropics! It was a nice quiet neighborhood, which we were looking for. The beach was also quiet, and felt quite private. I really have no recommendations of how to make it better; so many people have stayed here that they have it fine tuned. Thanks again for the great house and hospitality! We will be back!"
