"I was fortunate to be able to stay at Honu Hale Lanikai with my Mother and 2 of her good friends for 2 weeks. I'm their designated driver...it's a dirty job but someone's go to do it! A few years back we stayed in Kailua and discovered Lanikai and we have been hooked ever since! Our family owns a cottage on a tiny island in The Bahamas and we know great beaches and Lanikai is among the BEST! So to be able to stay right there with that gorgeous water and the Mokes as our view was absolutely incredible! The house is extremely well appointed and was very clean. It's amazing how many extras there are: beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles, outdoor furniture, plenty of extra towels (including beach towels) and sheets, everything for the kitchen even a salad spinner! We love to cook and a well stocked kitchen is so greatly appreciated. There is no dishwasher (not a worry at all for us!) but there is a washer and dryer. The photos of the house are very accurate and as far as the location description the only 'problem' is that the stairs down to the water seem to have deteriorated since the photo was taken. They are not easy to climb (very rough and slippery) so to gain access to the water you have to walk to the other side of the Paul Mitchell estate or 2 houses down the other way. Definitely NOT a big deal! Speaking of the Paul Mitchell estate, it is gorgeous and according to their website it rents for $7200-9300.00 per night and Honu Hale Lanikai has the exact same view! To access the beach from the house, you can walk (it's about 1/4 mile) or drive there and park. Or you can do what I did a few times and walk or swim in the water, maybe you'll see a turtle! Kailua has 3 supermarkets, a Whole Foods and a Sunday morning Farmers Market, so it's very easy to get great produce. We got lucky a few times buying fresh fish along the way to Haleiwa, look for signs along the Kamehameha Hwy. Getting to Honolulu on the Pali is fast and easy. We went to the Academy of Arts that has a couple of wonderful exhibits, Art Deco in Hawaii and Natural Unnatural Supernatural. Lunch there is very good. Also we had lunch at the Hao Tree at the New Otani in Waikiki and it is awesome! The salmon eggs benedict was incredible. We had an absolutely fabulous time. If you are considering a stay on Oahu, look no further. Honu Hale Lanikai is perfect! Mahalo John for opening up your lovely home to us, we can't wait to come back."Guest: BlueWaterLover Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: September 25, 2014View listing
"Every morning we watched the sun rise over the Mokulua islands off Lanikai - an incomparably beautiful sight. There's nowhere in the world I'd rather be than here at Lanikai, and this is the perfect house for it. If you're looking for granite countertops and the latest Bose speakers, this is not the place for you. But if you want a wonderful 1920s, completely kitted out old-style beach house, don't hesitate for a minute. We loved every minute here. There's no beach in front and getting to the water involves either walking a house away and down the access path or clambering over rocks, but because there's no beach in front of the house, there's almost total privacy and you can get your paddle board into the water and set off for the islands or start snorkelling among schools of fish (and even a sea turtle and seal or two). The garden in the front of the house is beautifully kept and has a view of the mountains, which you also see from the dining room table (from the dining and living rooms you actually see both the sea and the mountains). Great for barbecues and outdoor dining. And lovely little old- fashioned bedrooms with built-in cupboards, each bedroom with a view of the sea. What more could you want? If we could, we'd return every year."Guest: Sarah Date of Stay: May 2014 Review Submitted: June 1, 2014View listing
"I had put off writing a review because it pained me greatly to have to leave this tropical paradise and return to NYC. This home has the most amazing backyard and picturesque view. When I showed friends my photos they accused me of showing them postcard pictures. Candis was traveling but her sister and mother greeted my group in person and left us a welcome basket overflowing with wonderful items. Waking up to the sunset here is the stuff dreams are made of. The location is great because it is at the end of the street and the beach is totally private except for kayakers in the distance. I only regretted running around the island too much to really enjoy the property more. Highly recommended and thanks for sharing your home!"Guest: Eddie Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: August 1, 2014View listing
"Coming from Germany we had a long trip and when we arrived it was already dark. Waking up the next morning and enjoying the gorgeous view from the cottage we knew it was well worth spending all this time on the plane. The cottage and its location on Oahu is just great. Loved breakfasts on the lanikai overlooking the ocean. I can very much recommend it. We felt very comfortable and at home. Thanks Noni."Guest: What's your first name? W.
