  • great stay and location

"After going around various places at Oahu I strongly believe that Waimanalo beach is the best fit for those who are seeking a romantic and crowdless setting. Great sandy beach is behind the door (cottage is located in front line with short passage to the beach), almost no people there. The village itself is very beautiful with all necessary facilities available e.g shops and places to eat. Further on, there are a lot of places of interests in the short distance - I was waking up every day at 6am and went for one of nearby hiking routes like Koko Head and others. Equally convenient coastal road to the direction of Honolulu and to north where we have been to Kualoa ranch."

  • Huge outdoor area... but hot stay!!

"A group of 10 friends stayed at this house for a week and really enjoyed the huge space this property offered. The most impressive area was the outdoor kitchen/porch/pool area. We spent most of our time out there. Having the huge lawn space was also a positive as we played lots of lawn games. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen has lots of cooking dishes, and lots of beach towels and beach gear were available by the owner. The neighborhood location is great... Safe and easy to walk/run to the beach or grocery store. Great location for either Kailua Beach or Lanikai beach. It's about .8 miles from the house to Kailua Beach. Unfortunately we stayed here during a week where there were no trade winds and it was about 90 degrees during the day... 83-85 degrees at night. With all the doors and windows open, the house and property had no breeze making it a bit unbearable... And I come from a humid and hot climate. The owner provides plenty of movable fans... No ceiling fans in the bedrooms. However, this week the fans did little to cool us off. The house was a bit of a sauna so we spent most of our time in the pool... An ice cold shower in the outdoor shower helped too. Overall the stay was great and the property is really wonderful for large groups looking for huge outdoor space and pool!"

  • Comfort of home - turned our "trip" into a "Vacation"

"I recently had the opportunity to extend a business trip and invite my small family along with me. This was our third and final location of the trip, and turned our trip into a vacation. We first stayed at a hotel in Waikiki (due to business needs), then an Air BNB location in Kaneohe Bay area (great view - but that was all). Landing at the Surf Hale, and having the guidance of Carly and Jeff was just what we needed. Connecting with Carly was easy and timely. Working with her either by text or e-mail we sorted the whole thing out, and got payment arranged via PayPal which was convenient also. The photos and description are accurate, the only difference is that some of the furniture was moved around. All in all it was very convenient and comfortable. There were three of us (myself, my wife, and 7 year old son) and it fit well. The kitchen wasn't huge, but right sized to let us create small meals easily. The walk to the beach was 5 minutes at most to Kailua Beach Park (seems like local hang out, with decent waves for the little grommets), and maybe another 3-5 minutes if you want to head to Lanikai Beach (highly recommended for snorkeling and floating... and just sun soaking). We were a short 5 minute drive from downtown Kailua. We also discovered that her comment about local "wildlife" was accurate as well. We spotted any number of lizards and geckos (my son was pretty excited about that), and had a regular cardinal come and sing to us on the patio in the morning. We should have paid more attention to the comment, and not left our bananas out through the night. It seems that local mice appreciate bananas and one helped himself to about half of a banana. We didn't see him or have anything else nibbled on for the remainder of the trip, so I guess he got his fill. We didn't use the kitchen too much, because Carly and Jeff guided us to a few good spots for food. The first was Kalapawai Cafe. You could get small meals, easy stuff for kids (including PB&J), or something more exotic and island focused (like striped marlin over lemongrass risotto). We also tried out Cactus, a (light?) Mexican restaurant that had island flavor. Not sure exactly how I'd classify it, but when we return to the area we'll go there again. Last we went to Kailua General Store for light fluffy shave ice. If we find ourselves back on Oahu we'll definitely seek out Carly and Jeff to see if the Surf Hale is available. Great spot to relax and enjoy."
