  • DO NOT LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE! Talk about right on a private beach! Your own piece of Heaven.

"I mean directly on the world's ranked No. 1 beach, with fine soft white sand, turquoise water, gentle breeze, amazing sun rise and panoramic view. This is the best place on the Island, why would you want to go anywhere else. I did a lot of research and places say at the beach, steps from the beach, yards from the beach but they wasn’t directly ON the beach. We came to Oahu for our tenth Anniversary plus it was on my bucket list! *The outside is an amazing place. There is a direct access to the lawn sitting area in front of the beach, basically used only by the renters. We had our morning coffee, while watching the sun rise from the lawn. There is no parking fees and right in front of your own private entrance! *The apartment has a living room area to watch TV with a room divider door in case someone is still sleeping, a long large desk that we used to eat lunch or look up our plans for the day on our laptop. There is a comfortable King size bed, plenty of pillows and extra blankets in the closet. The ceiling fans and the trade winds keep the apartment very cool in the summer. How about the closet space, way more than enough room for the 4 suitcases I brought….lol There is a great kitchenette which includes a washer/dryer, how great is that! Outside they have a clothes line to hang your bathing suits up if you don’t like to put them in the dryer and an outside shower to wash off sand. You could just stay in the apartment your entire stay but you must see the sites. I recommend the Polynesian Culture Center with luau and show. It was awesome! *The owners Shari and her father Herb are warm and friendly and are there only when you need them. They have their own yard and entrance. It is very quiet and you don’t even know they are there. They have beach chairs, snorkeling masks, cooler and Boogie boards for your use. We stayed here for 4 nights and then the Outrigger Waikiki Shore on the Beach for 6 nights. The Outrigger was ok but not the privacy, not the sand, not the relaxation, overcrowded and loud. Not the price and parking was 35. a night. When I arrived in Waikiki I just kept thinking about Kailua Beach and how much I missed it. You could still stay in Kailua and travel to Waikiki for the sites. Pilipu Place is only 20-25 minutes away. So, I suggest you pick this place as you will not be disappointed. Book soon as it will book up fast! Thanks Shari and Herb for a great vacation! Miss you"

  • Perfect spot

"Cottage By The Sea was in a perfect location and had all the necessary amenities. Owner was so nice and helpful, yet not intrusive. We walked to town and the beach everyday with ease and felt very safe. The unit was comfortable and having the backyard area was really nice. Only thing missing was a hair dryer so be sure to bring one if you need it."

  • Comfort of home - turned our "trip" into a "Vacation"

"I recently had the opportunity to extend a business trip and invite my small family along with me. This was our third and final location of the trip, and turned our trip into a vacation. We first stayed at a hotel in Waikiki (due to business needs), then an Air BNB location in Kaneohe Bay area (great view - but that was all). Landing at the Surf Hale, and having the guidance of Carly and Jeff was just what we needed. Connecting with Carly was easy and timely. Working with her either by text or e-mail we sorted the whole thing out, and got payment arranged via PayPal which was convenient also. The photos and description are accurate, the only difference is that some of the furniture was moved around. All in all it was very convenient and comfortable. There were three of us (myself, my wife, and 7 year old son) and it fit well. The kitchen wasn't huge, but right sized to let us create small meals easily. The walk to the beach was 5 minutes at most to Kailua Beach Park (seems like local hang out, with decent waves for the little grommets), and maybe another 3-5 minutes if you want to head to Lanikai Beach (highly recommended for snorkeling and floating... and just sun soaking). We were a short 5 minute drive from downtown Kailua. We also discovered that her comment about local "wildlife" was accurate as well. We spotted any number of lizards and geckos (my son was pretty excited about that), and had a regular cardinal come and sing to us on the patio in the morning. We should have paid more attention to the comment, and not left our bananas out through the night. It seems that local mice appreciate bananas and one helped himself to about half of a banana. We didn't see him or have anything else nibbled on for the remainder of the trip, so I guess he got his fill. We didn't use the kitchen too much, because Carly and Jeff guided us to a few good spots for food. The first was Kalapawai Cafe. You could get small meals, easy stuff for kids (including PB&J), or something more exotic and island focused (like striped marlin over lemongrass risotto). We also tried out Cactus, a (light?) Mexican restaurant that had island flavor. Not sure exactly how I'd classify it, but when we return to the area we'll go there again. Last we went to Kailua General Store for light fluffy shave ice. If we find ourselves back on Oahu we'll definitely seek out Carly and Jeff to see if the Surf Hale is available. Great spot to relax and enjoy."

  • Excellent Rental

"My wife and I spent 14 days at this rental and very enjoyed our stay. The location of this rental is fantastic, which is very close to Kailua Beach. Living close to the beaches in Southern California, we could not believe that Kailua Beach far surpassed our beaches. The water is so clear and blue and so warm. In regard to the rental, my wife and I were very impressed. The grounds are nice. The owners, Ron and Sue, have bikes, beach chairs, and an ice chest for your use. We were able to park our car on their property. The bathroom and shower were of a good size. If you like to sight see, I do recommend renting a car the entire visit. The pictures of the rental were accurate, the property was very clean and well-maintained. Sue was very helpful in answering all of my questions and made a number of helpful suggestions for our stay in Kailua. The unit we rented was pleasant, on the 2nd floor with a great view of the mountains. Being a tall person, I enjoyed the Cal king size bed. We had satellite TV, a fairly fast Wi-Fi connection. The studio was a good size for two people. My wife tried to cook a full dinner, but the kitchenette does not have a stove. But the kitchenette is adequate for easy-to-make meals. There is a microwave, a refrigerator, and pots and pans. The biggest plus to this rental is the close location to Kailua Beach, the neighborhood is quiet, the grounds are nice, the studio is large and spacious, the rental price is very reasonable, the owners are nice people and honest. Areas of improvement: the chairs on the deck (lanai) were plastic and bit uncomfortable and the couch was hard on the backs. My wife and I plan on returning to Ron's and Sue's rental this coming year. We plan on bringing our four-year old grandchild with us this coming year for another stay with Ron and Sue's rental."
