"My extended family of 15 stayed in this home for one week. The house was very clean, plenty of space for everyone, and the backyard was a beautiful beach that we nearly had to ourselves.
We picked coconuts from the trees out front and made coconut bread from a recipe we received at the Polynesian Culture Center (located 5 miles away from home). We went to a nearby fruitstand and the local there told us how to cook the breadfruit that was also growing on the trees in front of the home. We bought fresh shrimp from a nearby stand and that night we cooked shrimp and breadfruit for dinner.
We explored the tidepools literally, steps from the back door and found sea cucumbers, crabs, and tiny fish. A few miles down we saw a pregnant monk seal (named Honeygirl. The locals told us all about her). We saw some dolphins in the distance from our 'private' beach.
Across the street from the home is a grocery store and in my opinion the best restaurant on the North Shore (Papa Ole's).
All of these experiences were possible because of the beautiful place we stayed at, in such a great location. You can't do these types of things when you're staying in a hotel.
Lata was great to work with and very accommodating. We did have a few ants, which was remedied when we were diligent about crumbs. I think this is pretty normal for any home!!"

"My wife and I stayed at this property in September, 2015. I will begin this review with the caveat; do not judge a book by its cover. We arrived late afternoon and I initially thought the property was going to be a disappointment. This property appeared weathered and I myself felt it would be the same inside. Well it was certainly not the case. We met ‘Dave” and were given the initial tour of a very nice property. This home had everything we would need or want for our 4 day stay. All the appliances were spotless and nearly new. The beds were very comfortable. The property is air conditioned and kept the home quite comfortable, even though we were told it was one of the hottest Septembers on record. Dave was quite thorough in his tour and even shared a few stories of spending some of his childhood in this home. The deck area could not have been any closer to the water than it was. This was the explanation of my initial assessment. Exterior maintenance of a property this close to the crashing waves and almost constant sea breeze can be challenging at best. My negative thoughts had completely faded and our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. Morning coffee was met with beautiful sunrises and the hot tub just outside the door made for even more enjoyment in the early hours of the day. Returning from a day of activities was met with relaxing waves hitting the beach as we sat an enjoyed a glass of wine. You will need to walk a short distance to one of the nearby beaches as the area just in front of the property is pretty rocky and not really suitable for swimming. We were told there was a reef out a bit from the beach area but the waves made this area look a bit intimidating for us.
There is a local grocery store and drug store from the CVS family about a mile away with a local café next door serving nice local plate dishes. A few miles down this same road are several commercial businesses, one of which is a larger grocery store as well as a shop where you can get your fill of Hawaiian shave ice….wow what a way to start a vacation.
The area in which the home is located is considered the country. There are no high-rises or extensive nightlife but if you want to come to Oahu and relax this is certainly a nice place to do it. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. Our stay at Hale Koolua was a wonderful way to experience Hawaii for the first time. We will certainly be back and stay at this property.

"We had a great stay in this little cabin. It had everything we needed and the garden\porch was great. Nice big shower for two with a good shower head, lots of towels, good selection of snorkel fins, nice bedding, and plenty of coolers for poke and beer on the beach. It isn't fancy or anything but affordable and private which is kind of fancy in it's own way really after you have stayed in Waikiki. The area is quiet and so is the beach which is really close by. We saw a Monk seal sleeping on the beach one day which was really special, and a pair of green sea turtles bobbing around in the surf. Greg was helpful and friendly and so were the neighbors. The grocery store near by has everything you need and some great poke and other freshly caught seafood. Papa Ole's is a great place for some cheap Hawaiian BBQ, and the little corner store across the street from shopping zone sometimes has some amazing freshly baked Polynesian bread. Many cool zones are near by, pipe line, Waimea valley, sharks cove, turtle bay, all within 30 minutes of driving. Had a cool time in this chill town in our cabin.
