"As wonderful as this house is, what really wowed us was the attention and care given to us by Michalene, the property manager! But im getting ahead of myself. We spent two weeks at this tropical paradise after spending time at two other homes...this was by far our favorite. It is so beautifully decorated and was so, so clean. You can tell right away that Michalene and the owner take excellent care of the property. They really care about your overall experience on the island. For example: we arrived to the house after a storm, only to find out the electricity in the area was out! Michalene was so very very worried about us, she spent an hour waiting on the phone with the electric company. We had candles and a flashlight, we were fine. I told her we once survived 3 1/2 days in northern Wisconsin without electricity because of a tornado... a few hours was no big deal! But she was still concerned for us, she continually checked on us. As it turned out the lights came back on before it got really dark! That personal attention is impressive! The pictures on the internet are very acurate...you will not be dissappointed at all. We are returning next year and have already decided to come back to this "home away from home"."

"My wife and I stayed at this property in September, 2015. I will begin this review with the caveat; do not judge a book by its cover. We arrived late afternoon and I initially thought the property was going to be a disappointment. This property appeared weathered and I myself felt it would be the same inside. Well it was certainly not the case. We met ‘Dave” and were given the initial tour of a very nice property. This home had everything we would need or want for our 4 day stay. All the appliances were spotless and nearly new. The beds were very comfortable. The property is air conditioned and kept the home quite comfortable, even though we were told it was one of the hottest Septembers on record. Dave was quite thorough in his tour and even shared a few stories of spending some of his childhood in this home. The deck area could not have been any closer to the water than it was. This was the explanation of my initial assessment. Exterior maintenance of a property this close to the crashing waves and almost constant sea breeze can be challenging at best. My negative thoughts had completely faded and our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. Morning coffee was met with beautiful sunrises and the hot tub just outside the door made for even more enjoyment in the early hours of the day. Returning from a day of activities was met with relaxing waves hitting the beach as we sat an enjoyed a glass of wine. You will need to walk a short distance to one of the nearby beaches as the area just in front of the property is pretty rocky and not really suitable for swimming. We were told there was a reef out a bit from the beach area but the waves made this area look a bit intimidating for us.
There is a local grocery store and drug store from the CVS family about a mile away with a local café next door serving nice local plate dishes. A few miles down this same road are several commercial businesses, one of which is a larger grocery store as well as a shop where you can get your fill of Hawaiian shave ice….wow what a way to start a vacation.
The area in which the home is located is considered the country. There are no high-rises or extensive nightlife but if you want to come to Oahu and relax this is certainly a nice place to do it. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. Our stay at Hale Koolua was a wonderful way to experience Hawaii for the first time. We will certainly be back and stay at this property.

wonderful retreat, conveniently located, great for families
"Our family of 6 (4 teenagers) loved our recent stay at Luana II and were sorry to leave. The house was spacious, clean and close to all that the north shore has to offer. Samuel gave us some helpful tips which added to our enjoyment. We managed to see some of the Banzai pipeline competition which was awesome! We had a couple of rainy days which didn't stop us from doing anything. Waimea Bay is beautiful but make sure you are surf aware before jumping in - the waves have a lot of power behind them (perhaps this is a winter thing though)! We went horseriding at Gunstock Ranch, swimming with the sharks through North Shore Shark Adventures, snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking, and shopping at Haleiwa and did our own amazing race around the maze at the Dole plantation. We had a few drives and had a great half day at the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Laie - more fun than I thought it was going to be. Make sure you try the food trucks (Souvaly at Haleiwa was stunning) and had a beautiful meal at Jameson's on our last evening. While we were there Samuel brought around new mattress toppers for the beds which made them even more comfortable. He cares about his visitors! I highly recommend this lovely house and can testify that the photos are accurate. We are dreaming of a return visit."
